"Savior, conqueror, hero, villain. You are all of these things..., and yet you are nothing. In the end, you belong to neither the light nor the darkness. You will forever stand alone."
-Darth Malak

Welcome to my very first Let's Play. I know those words won't exactly inspire a whole lot of confidence in my fellow escapists, but we've all gotta start somewhere right? Thats why, along this adventure of intrigue, love, betrayal, and awesomeness, I would like YOU to help me along. The KOTOR games are a series based heavily around choice, and, while I hazard to say it doesn't come into play until II, consequence. That's why every major decision will be tackled by YOU. But, first, lets get some things out of the road.

THIS WILL BE A SCREENSHOT LET'S PLAY

Simply because I like the style better. It let's me put myself in the character's shoes better, and screenshot LPs tend to be less..... shit.

WHAT IS THIS "KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC" MALARKEY? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE.

Knights of the Old Republic is a critically acclaimed trilogy of RPGs set in the Star Wars universe 4000 years before the rise of everyone's favorite mouth-breathing black knight, Darth Vader. The game us based on the Star Wars Tabletop Role Playing Game ruleset, which is in turn derived from Dungeons and Dragons' 3rd Edition.

Also, how did you like your trip through time? I hear the 1880s are lovely.

HOW REGULARLY WILL YOU UPDATE?

About once to three times a week. Sometime Ill miss that, and if that occurs, I am sorry.

WHEN CAN I CONTRIBUTE?

Ill put a poll on whenever a major decision crops up.

ANY RULES FOR COMMENTS?

Nothing, post your own experiences on the games, I encourage you, just please, PLEASE, don't start a flame war over which KOTOR is the best. It just isn't worth it. Just remember to mark spoilers.

WHAT GAMES ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

KOTOR, and, if the Let's Play for that is well received, KOTOR 2. No Old Republic, sorry.

ANY MODS?

Nope. Though, If I do KOTOR 2, I will have the Restoration Mod installed.

I probably won't get every Item, nor discover every single line of dialogue. Im just going to play the game, and try to do everything I can.

WHAT CHARACTER ARE YOU?

Currently, an Evil female scoundrel.

Class, go Scoundrel. Scout and Soldier are too easy. Plus, as a scoundrel, you get excellent repair or computer bonuses due to a higher skill point pool, allowing you to fix HK-47 and receive some hilarious stories.

Alignment: Dark Side. This is a Bioware game, so you can do some ridiculously evil things. (Sandral-Matale feud.)

Do want! I'll happily join in here.

Name: Whatever, I've never been good at this. I always use Kurt...or Vaughn. Or Kurt Vonne. You get 1,000 guesses on who the name draws inspiration from.

Gender: Would I rather Carth hit on you or Bastilla? Erm...be a female. Because my last playthrough the game was as a male, and if you do play KotOR 2 as well then male is preferable (Handmaiden > Disciple).

Class: Scoundrel. It allows for some bonuses with HK-47. Do you want to decide on the Jedi class now or later? If now: Consular (then you can show the flip-side in KotOR 2: Jedi Weapons Master).

Alignment: I prefer to be good in both games. Boring, I know. But I especially prefer to be good in KotOR 2. So if you're into showing one way and another, then let the first game be the Dark Side path. Korriban is much better if you're evil, anyway.

Oh, I forgot about how you could be a massive dick on Korriban. Yes, just to further my point, go Dark Side. It is hilarious.

It seems "Dark Side" is the unanimous decision, so far. Ill be honest, im usually the "goody goody" character in all games, and I found it very difficult being the absolute bastard KOTOR 1 lets you be. Well, if the people want it, the people will get it!

NAME: What ever, I can never choose names for this game.

GENDER: Female, no one ever plays a woman, in this game anyway.

CLASS: Scoundrel.

ALIGNMENT: Evil, but don't let your....ehm, servants get away.

I'm excited for this, I'm in the middle of my evil play-through of this myself.

Sorry, KOTOR's a great game, but KOTOR II is one of my favourite role-playing games ever. The philosophy and themes are just so much deeper, and the moral choices so much grayer. I think KOTOR II would make for a far better LP, so whatever gets you there quickest.
I agree with you there, on every word, but as you said, KOTOR is a great game in its own right, and I wanna do it justice as much as I would give KOTOR 2 justice.

If you are hankering for a KOTOR II LP in the meantime, there is a particularly good one in the LP Archive. Just google "KOTOR 2 LP Archive" and you'll find it.

Thank you sir. You just caused a nostalgia surge.

Yeah, I read through that one recently. A user here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/CM156] recommended it to me and I enjoyed it very much. The person who did the LP is a man after my own heart, as he played through the game using my favorite KotOR II build: The Jedi Gunslinger. He's pretty funny too, and I enjoyed some of his behind the scenes commentary.

I wished I believed in romance more than Bioware. I just can't write it unless one of the pair gets impaled on a pike, set on fire, or betrays the other and then impales them on a pike or sets them on fire. Generally, I prefer unrequited, melancholy, quiet suffering whenever possible, which really doesn't go over well with a lot of the role-players out there.
And with that, some choices in Obsidian games make more sense.

Chris Avellone is awesome in every sense of the word, but man, if that quote ain't creepy, I don't know what is.

Hey, this sounds like this could be pretty awesome. I love this game, and I'm always up for following LPs of games I like and know through and through.

Here's my initial suggestions:

NAME: Steve. Let everyone else have their exotic sci-fi names.

GENDER: Male.

CLASS: Scoundrel. More skill points are fun. I assume you'll put a poll for the Jedi class later, but just in case I'm going to recommend Consular when you get there.

ALIGNMENT: Dark-side. Bioware excel at options that aren't just evil, but are Disney Evil. Shudder.

Nice, I will probably follow this with interest. My only suggestion is Dark Side for alignment - mostly because when I played the game, I was Light Side, and I'm curious how the other half lives.

When I played this game after the first run-through, I always called myself Not Revan.

Also, as someone who's played every iteration of light and dark in KOTOR, I have to say don't pre-choose an alignment. Take each choice separately. It only matters at the end anyway. My favorite choices were to go all light side points, then when I find out who I really am, turn dark. I like to imagine the NPC's are all disappointed in me, thinking I would be this good guy then suddenly switching.

Also, be a male, and choose a face with facial hair. My favorite was the soul-patch face, that's Not Revan in my book.

Have fun.

Name: The Duke
Gender: Male
Class: Soldier/Consular
Alignment: Eville

No, the spelling of "Evil" is not a mistake. The rest is self-explanatory for various, arbitrary reasons, mostly consisting of me never using the name/class combo ever. Besides, who doesn't want an exorbitant amount of Force Points that they'll never be forced to use? At least they will be there just in case. Just in case.

Sounds like it will be quite a good Let's Play. I enjoyed the original KOTOR and it's Sequel so I'd like to see how your interactions with the game will turn out.
Might as well make an attempt:

Name: James Worthington The Third or you could go for Revan you know for the laughs. But a name should really be something you make up.
Gender: I'm voting for male but I think it would be just as good as a female character. Never played through the game as that gender though.
Class: Scoundrel and later Jedi Sentinel. Scoundrels are useful for computer skills and unlocking, two really useful skills and Jedi Sentinels can take lots of damage get a good amount of FP and FS as well as the dual-bladed lightsaber.
Alignment: Well play good than go evil at the end for a good game.

Woah, loads of spoliers, guys. I should have put this in the "need to know" section of the original post, but, seriously, no unmarked spoilers. There may be some people reading this that haven't played the game, we don't want to spoil the incredibly well-foreshadowed suprise!

That's the thing though if they enjoy the story, they'll still be able to feel shock even if the twist is spoiled, it was for me but I never saw coming just oh well it was set up till the montage of foreshadow lines.

Even so, marked spoilers are preferable, even if its just so that people new to the game can experience it in the way it was originally intended.
