Although one would ordinarily be adverse to working with the walking dead, the effectiveness of our resident dancing Zombie Fish in his first mission since his unfortunate undeath cannot be disputed. Hopefully if he is determined to subsist off of brains we can just feed him the brains of dead aliens after we're done analyzing them.

In other news I chalked up a couple more kills and was impressed with the effectiveness of the sonic rifle even out of the water. Looks like we have a mainstay weapon that will fend off most of the xenos for the time being. Now if we could just take down more of their ships.

Alien engagement (Island of Tonga)
Raven del Cid. Maritime Division: Assault squad

Basically today, I have seen everything!. Fish, despite being..well, dead; just performed a war dance by slapping himself around a bit and proceeded to wreak havoc on the aliens. I have never seen a man, woman or child move like he did. It was mildly disturbing!. At least the fella is on our side, so god help the aliens.

In other news, the engagement in Tonga went fine, minor hiccups here and there but "all's well that end's well" as my pappy used to say. My only whinge is about the assault teams woefully under equipped weapons. I mean I don't mind using a thermal tazer but the dart gun is now hovering on ridiculously impractical to almost dangerous, especially on surface mission where the atmosphere severely dampens the dart guns projectile range. How are we, the "assault squad", supposed to keep up with the assaults when we are armed with peashooters?. We nearly died today if it wasn't for Higs.

I think I am going to have a word with those boffins in the science lab..they must have some idea about improving the design or type of ammunition to take care of land targets.

Noise heard when passing by the door to Squeak's bunk.

"I just don't know what to think anymore. I can handle fighting aliens, I can handle being outgunned, I can even handle knowing that the pressure of the sea floor could crush me if I so much as scratched my diving suit, BUT A DANCING ZOMBIE?!"

Sobbing.

"What do you think Doc?"

10 - More Robot Than Robot

After the long delay, it was somewhat shocking when the contact alarm blared again only a few short days after the Tonga battle.

It was the middle of the night, and Lieutenant Bling Cat had pulled the short straw of the graveyard watch. Not that anyone else slept through the shuddering clang of the sea doors cycling to allow the Barracuda to launch. Over the next few hours, the screens showed the sonar blips of the alien vessel and the Barracuda closing, eventually merging in the southern Atlantic.

As I entered the command station, the intercept was well underway.

"Command, I have firing solution, ready to fire"

"Aye pilot, fire when ready"

"Fish in the water command... Enemy's holed sir, heading for the bottom"

"Very well pilot, we're coming to collect the bits"

"Time for you to suit up Lieutenant, I'll take over here. We've got another new project for you to test out there. A new development from the AI soldiers of the first war, a humanoid artificial intelligence, it'll be networked with your USW, hopefully providing a more complete tactical unit"

"Aliens, zombies and now robots? And I thought I was already tired.. Oh well, I shall see to it sir"

Bling Cat headed swiftly for the launch bays, preparing to lead the recovery of the downed vessel. From the command centre, I heard the Triton launch and watched the sonar blip of the craft speeding away. On arrival, the Triton circled the crash site looking for a suitable landing spot. The alien vessel had come down in the tectonically active zone between the African and South American continental plates, and undersea lava flows made landing tricky.

The Coelacanth moved out first, it's processors now operating in tandem with those in the android ANTX81. It almost immediately began to highlight targets, and ANTX81 relayed detailed information to the rest of the squad. "There are two enemies to the south and east. They are both armed with heavy weapons".

"Whoa, it speaks" exclaimed a shocked Zed.

"Indeed. I am capable of speech synthesis beyond most simple artificial intelligences".

"Not much personality though".

"Can it people, we've got a job to do here." Cut in an irritated Bling Cat, "Dekkarax, get your cannon on that hostile to

the south, Numlock Fury, the one to the east is yours."

Numlock Fury was the first to fire, hitting his target squarely in the gut and scything it's legs from under it.

Taking momentarily longer to steady the heavy sonic cannon, Dekkarax fired, another solid blow from the heavy weapon struck the creature in the chest, the water behind it acting like an anvil and causing it's chest to collapse under the blow.

"Squad, sound off, are our zones clear?"

"South clear" reported Dekkarax.

"East is still hot sir, enemy in cover behind a ridge, sniper fire would be appreciated".

"Diamond, do you have a shot?"

"Aye sir"

"All clear now sir".

"Good, Zed and Fury, head for the breach in the enemy vessel, ANTX81, flank to the bow and cover the hatch, shoot what they flush out. The rest of you spread out north with me"

The squad complied, a tense silence accompanied the action, every man waiting for the enemy to lash out. Zed reached the breach in the alien vessel and looked inside "No-one's home, this thing's a complete wreck"

The flat synthesised tones of the android interrupted him "There is one target leaving the vessel"

I am using the Coelacanth to intercept it.

"Good shooting, I could almost imagine that thing's accuracy's impr- whoa, shit!" The granite ridge next to Bling Cat exploded as a sonic bolt slammed into it.

He turned and raised his own weapon, missing would be the alien's last mistake.

Meanwhile, a resounding boom marked the impact on the alien vessel's hull of another shot, fired at ANTX81. The android turned to face it's attacker.

It fired it's weapon and pulverised the alien.

"Pity you don't have eyes in the back of your head"

"I shall note that feature for the next upgrade cycle"

The victories in Tonga and on the Atlantic seabed were timely. With recent results to show the council, I was able to convince them that the project was worthwhile, and argued for further funding to expand our operations, I signed off construction of new laboratory facilities and a submarine launch pen in the US facility to provide fast cover for the Pacific area. We would need to expand X-Com activity further, and I was spending some time considering the site for our next listening post.

Data log ANTX81 v2.0

A new interface chip and I am speaking more like a "Human". While it's an upgrade i feel i could do without, my new crew seems to appreciate it. It appears the Xenos have been busy while I was deactivated. New armor, new weapons, and underwater capabilities, make the original threat seem like a minor annoyance.

Originally, I was unsure of my performance underwater, but it seems R&D has made me more then capable. I eagerly await more upgrades.

Though young my squad seems optimistic and ready, many relatives of those I fought with during the first war. They do not know of the dangers we faced together, perhaps I will brief them on Xenos type: Chrysalids tomorrow.

After being locked up for so long I do regret only two things:
I did not dream.
I was not killing Xenos.

My father had spoke of an android soldier working for X-Com, but after a few months on the job I had presumed him to be lost to the shifting sands of time.

Until today. Apparently ANTX81 was just being dusted off and upgraded for its return to the field. I am impressed by the fact that the combination of present-day and older technology does not hamper its combat capabilities, and the integration with our unmanned vehicles has offered us an unparalleled level of battlefield control. I don't want to sound too optimistic, but I have a feeling that unless the aliens throw something really big at us before we get the new suits, they won't be able to stop us easily, if at all.

Out of curiosity, does "next week" extend into a two week period now?

"Next Week" has unfortunately extended until I've figured out a way around a rather annoying bug that deletes everyone's ammo, full clips and used ones, in between stages of two part terror missions. Going into the second map with only one sonic pistol clip between the whole squad is making things more difficult than necessary.

I've never experienced that bug before...though I am using the steam version so that could be why.

Alright, that makes sense.
Good luck there.

OOC: It's apparently a bug with X-Com Util itself, and you have to disable it before you actually run that specific kind of mission.

((subscribed to the site just to let you guys know that this kicks ass.

Stumbled across the Xcom: Ufo Defence "Lets Play" page when looking for a way to slow down the speed of the game when i was using dosbox.. i read the Ufo Defence story in one go :) was great.

Xcom: Enemy Unknown or what ever title you know it as, is #1 in my all time favorite games, and i`m dang happy i found this place since it led me to Steam, and that version plays on my pc at normal speed (no idea how they do it.. but it works the way i want it to)

cant wait to see the Xcom Apocalypse story.

Kind Regards,

m0j0))

I don't think it's dead per-say. He's having this tech issue that sounds like crap to deal with on top of every day life. Just got to wait
