I'm planning on making a list on what to do and what not to do in lets plays. One is to record comentary at the same time as gameplay. Also, Do not use a regular camera for any recording. Try to find a way to record it directly to your computer. Also, to check if a game has been LP'd, search it on Youtube. It really doesn't matter if there's already been a Let's Play on a game, as long as you do it well. Though Metroid Fusion (My current LP) hasn't gotten more than maybe three or four, counting mine. So perhaps somewhere in the portable libraries, you might find something that hasn't been done a lot, or at all.NuclearPenguin said:

I can't say anything in terms of software. I use Jing to record, but that's only to capture your computer screen.
You certainly can record a console game with a regular camera. You just have to know how to do it right. The only LPer I've found that has been able to do a good job with that kind of recording is 666theheartless666 [http://www.youtube.com/666theheartless666]. If you watch him you may be able to pick up a few things. (I think he shuts off the lights, not sure.)
PS: Let me know when you've started the LP, whatever it turns out to be. I'm always up for finding new people to watch!

Where the player essentially kept a log of the internal dialog of his Generals in a game of Medieval II Total War. The Total War games are an excellent platform to do a "Let's Play" on. Every user experience is different and there is lots of room for you to add your own creative interpretation on the often vague computer generated plot. Doing a "Let's Play" on an pre scripted game like Half Life or Call of Duty has less value since your experience will be much like every one else's.
Here are some more open ended games that would make good "Let's Play"'s IMO:
Mount and Blade
Civilization
Sim City
The Sims
Spore
Anything ending in "Total War"
