I've aways liked let's plays but are your opinions? Also, if anyone wants to tell me some good LPers and/or some good one off let's plays, that'll be good also.

We have an <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Let-s-Players-of-the-Escapist>LP Group here on The Escapist. Maybe join it for better thoughts on this topic? (Many of those guys make their own LP's)

My thoughts: They're entertaining, but I don't have the time to do one myself.

I was going to do a Recettear let's play before my computer broke. When it works again, it's definitely still on the agenda.

My personal favourite Let's Players are (on youtube) Bikdiponabus, because he's all kinds of sarcastic and funny, Brynnagiadrosich (I think that's how you spell it), because she is also amusing, provides commentary on some aspects of the games I didn't know, and plays games I'd not normally expect to see LP'd, or tries to do it in a different way (Starfox adventures, and a wooden sword only challenge run for twilight princess), and Mangaminx, who exclusively does horror games, and gets really into them, and does them so well that they even manage to scare me at times, and I'm just watching. All 3 of them I like as well because their commentary doesn't get in the way, but actually adds to the proceedings.

There is also an amazing written LP on Arcanum on the LParchive.

I think the general quality of LP are to low to bother, there are a few good ones out there, but i dont think ploughing trough the mediocrity and below is worth it, once in awhile i Stumble Upon a decent one, and when that comes i prefer the text ones since they are consistently funny, once in awhile i will watch one of a game im to scared to play myself but am still interested in, such as the silent hill franchise, i was even lucky enough to find a somewhat funny series of LPs of the first 3 games.

Its basically the same opinion i have about fan fic.

I've always wanted to do a Let's Play, particularly on something like Turning Point: Fall of Liberty or something. It's just so brilliant in it's awfulness.

HAZE would be a contender too.

I very much enjoy Let's Plays. Not only can they be entertaining, but they give me insight into games I have never played. More so than a review could since a Let's Play covers every aspect of a game. For example, I've been watching an Ocarina of Time Let's Play. I've never understood why the game was praised so much, and it's to old for me to go back and play it and still enjoy myself. This Let's Play has allowed me to see exactly why people like the game so much. It helps that it's not being done by insane fanboys, which is a problem I've seen with most other Ocarina of Time Let's Plays.

As for doing one myself, I never really considered it until recently. But I've started putting serious work into making a Dwarf Fortress Let's Play here on the Escapist. It's taking a lot more time than I expected, and I'm still not sure if anyone will actually like it, but I'm aiming to get the first part of it up within a few days max. I'm really just want to introduce more people to Dwarf Fortress, since it's an awesome game that is often overlooked.

I'd recommend reading/watching other Let's Plays to get a general idea of how they typically go and the troubles associated with them. I'm not sure if there are any guides out there, this [http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2993270] is the closest thing I can think of to one.

I like agentjr and liked thatenglishdude but he stopped doing them after losing a lot of videos. Also, I've seen mangaminx's LP of Clock Tower 3.

But yeah, I like watching them as well. Probably what takes up most of my time nowadays.

I like lets plays, i like it when people record games in full in general, my low cash income means i cant really afford to buy every game im interested in so its a nice thing to be able to do. I've seen every bit of the God of War trilogy without every playing it myself.

Me and a friend of mine are currently doing a lets play of Amnesia: the dark decent. And thank god Im doing it along side someone, its soo scary.

My friend is currently attempting to combine 2 and a half hours of game footage and reaction footage, then splitting it up into sizeable chuncks to upload to youtube... so far we havent got very far.

and in games lenght... we didn't get very far in 2 1/2 hours... cause we spent to much time being scared XD.

OT: I like lets plays.

My faviorite one to date has to be "Freemans mind" realy quite funny.

I really wanted to do a funny Let's Play on my own. But I want something that's both fun to play and something that not everyone played. That's hard to do find.

I watched Spoony of course, several times, even! And I've subscribes UltraJman and DeceasedCrab. It's nice and all, but they don't really add anything. I watched some I Wanna Be The Guy Let's Plays and it cracks me up every time!

I've only really watched two of them. Freeman's Mind, which is an amazingly hilarious take on Half-Life. I loved it, even though I never played it. And of course Graham and Paul's live Let's Play of Legaia 2.

I have also read some Europa Universalis III Let's Plays on the official forums, although they are called After Action Reports, or AARs, there.

A good let's play is a great alternative to playing a game. Especially if the game itself is a bucket of aborted baby fetuses (figuratively speaking of course, though I'd like to see that game be made). If the LP'er has a good sense of humor about it he can turn what is by itself a terrible game into a genuinely enjoyable experience.

Of course games are an interactive medium, so when it comes to the actual experience of a game you're much better off playing the game itself. Just make sure it's an actually good game and not some shity JRPG or anime-based game. Just generally avoid anything Japanese and you're safe.

If you're looking for classic JRPG LP's then I have to recommend HCBailey. Not only are his playthroughs very helpful and insightful he's also, in my opinion at least, pretty damn funny. Here's his page:

As you can tell, he has quite a lot of LP's under his belt.

But isn't Freeman's Mind a machinima?

I guess, in a way. But he doesn't change much to the game except for removing the HUD and sometimes using No-Clip to hoist himself up ledges. I think it's both. He's playing through the game with his own unique commentary.

Might and Magic 2 was probably what got me into the medium in the first place. I also have a fondness for Accounting Nightmare's LPs of the Devil May Cry games, though I suspect other people would probably find them too dry.

Personally, I've wanted to do an LP of Soulbringer or Rama for a while. Sadly, I don't have the video capture software for the former, or the writing time necessary for a screencap LP of the latter...yet.
