I would agree with you if it was anyone else but Disney. The consensus it seems for the marketing for that movie was that it sucked until they released the third trailer for it. Which nails what they should've been selling, and if parents aren't going to take their kids to a Disney animated movie then they are parenting wrong. It was only after the release of the movie that I saw better commercials and the word spread via word of mouth that "No its not what's in the trailers at all. Its so much better." Disney is known for having touching and dramatic moments along side the fun ones in their movies. Playing up action and comedy was just not a smart way to go.
Again though, that's not really what sells. At least, not as much as 'Look at the funny stuff'. This is the animated landscape shaped by the likes of Dreamworks Animation who started this whole fratboy, pop culuture referencing humor with Shrek.

You see, I haven't seen Frozen yet, but it seems to be the same song and dance which was the case with Tangled; A really great, sincere movie that was marketed as lower common denominator as possible, even down to its title. So as not to offend all those people who think cartoons are just shallow entertainment that stops their kids from screaming for the next 90 minutes.

And I think this has thoroughly deviated enough from the actual topic. :) Hell moviebob in his review of Frozen said almost the same thing. That it looked like the Mouse House was trying to ape the success of Dreamworks and yeah Tangled faced this exact problem except with the marketing it made me not want to see the movie and I didn't until well after it came out on DVD. However after seeing that and Wreck-it-Ralph, which sold me on the first 10 seconds of its trailer, I was convinced that Disney was warming up for something big and Frozen was it.

Since you haven't seen the movie yet I got a few words for you. Get your ass to a theater if its still playing!

Marketing is everything for a new product. Sadly Nintendo dropped the ball with this and coupled with a few other mistakes the Wii U is doomed as a competitor to the PS4 and the fucking Xbone of all things. However if they release a brand new console Star Fox game and keep Bayonetta going strong and help Platinum turn it into a major franchise I have absolutely zero complaints. I'm still glad they have essentially picked up Platinum games. Those guys have probably on accident made one of the best subversive girl power rules games ever. Maybe even the only one. If you've played it think about it just a bit and you'll see what I mean I hope.

Step 1: Extremely aggressive marketing campaign: Billboards, posters in subway stations, on buses, tv, Hell even fucking sky writers would help at this fucking point.

Step deux: Rename the Wii-U to something distinguishable from the Wii. Wasn't the development name for it called "Project Cafe" or something. That sounds interesting.

Numéro trois: STOP SELLING THE FUCKING WII!

Four: Reduce the advertising for the 3DS a bit. At this point it's leaking money.

5: Bye bye region locking.

Step 3+3: Make an account system.

Step 7: DO NOT advertise solely for casual gamers. Those folks have all flocked mobile gaming.

Step last: Bring back some older franchises like Starfox or F-Zero to get people's interest. Advertise them in a way that it appeals to either everyone or a specific niche.
