Does anyone else get offended by this notion? You know what I mean, when something in the news involves someone who is, for example black, the news will want to see 'how the black community are handling it.' Isn't this quite racist? Black community? That's like saying all black people are some sort of hive mind that all think the same way. If we just use the USA as an example, how can almost 13% of the American population possibly have the same opinion on every single issue? You don't hear 'lets hear what the white community have to say about this' do you? No, because that would be ridiculous. So why isn't it the same for other ethnicities?

Besides, if the issue is one that affects "the black community" (no, I don't know what that issue might be) it makes sense to ask members of said community.

But there isn't really a 'black community', is there? They're just a part of the local community or wider society just like everyone else. Saying that they're their own community simply based on race and nothing more seems racist.

Black Community, LGBT Community, etc. are all at best, disingenuous labels. These groups usually represent very specific subsets of these communities, to the exclusion of others.

In fairness, it only happens here (England, specifically Yorkshire really) in reaction to things which will affect that entire ethnic community. Last I heard this sort of thing was when police had been told to watch out for large groups of asian men following some gang attacks, to which the whole asian community did actually share the "This is unfair discrimination" opinion. Though how valid it is when everyone else thought that is questionable.
