If you want to spend time with her maybe you should just tell her that. :) It is also possible she feels anxious about trying other games if shes new to it.

Damnit, why did you have to go and be all sensible?

If I play that I really like, the most recent being Batman Arkham Asylum, I will try pretty damn hard to get all the achievements. If a game isn't that fun and I don't play it much, then well, not many achievements will be earned from that game.

It's not that I want to spend time with her, it's actually just that I want to share video games to everyone in the world, and it just gets to me when people only play one game. And that second part might be true.

Even though I've been playing comp games since I was 6, WOW was my first real online experience, it took a long time for my friend to persuade me to play anything but the priest which I was really good at, just becuase I was nervous of screwing up. It very possible she is similarly worried.

I suppose... I guess I've just kinda lost my fear of failure, and can no longer sympathize with it.

I rarely play games more than once through, so I rarely get all the achievements in a title. But achievements are not necessary for someone to be addicted to a title. My younger sister tends to play the same half-dozen games over and over again despite having 100% them. Specifically: Okami, star fox adventures, skies of arcadia, and one of the DS pokemon titles (not sure which). I've offered to let her play some of mine, but she hasn't taken me up on my offer yet.

Hmm, maybe you should talk to an artist then, they can tell you all about how when they get inspiration for a project, they can't stand to do anything else (even eat, sleep, or bathe) until they finish something. Besides, have you considered that perhaps your badgering of her over a silly motivation (gaming achievements), and being called obsessive or other rather harsh words may be getting to her? Possibly even hurting her feelings? I can understand that there should be a limit to playtime for a game, but perhaps it's just something that makes her happy and allows her to feel a sense of accomplishment when she's finally achieved 100%. Granted, I don't want to sound preachy, but perhaps you should give her some space if it really bothers you. She'll come around eventually. :3
Perhaps... It's just that this is one of the few things that really gets on my nerves.

But, you get double credits for having Fluttershy as your profile pic.
Thanks. Although, the .png file got messed up somehow in the transfer, and that's why it's so..."glitchy".. :/

Here's what I hate about achievements;

Online/multiplayer achievements, which I group together because they've become almost synonymous nowadays. I have an XBox 360. I don't have XBox live. I also don't have any friends, offline friends, anyway. So I have several games for which I will never get all the achievements, achievements that I could very well get by just opening up the multiplayer maps and jumping around for a few minutes on my own with the second controller plugged in.

On a lesser note, racing achievements. You know, "get from point A to point B within this psychotically short time limit"? Now, I love Prototype. I love spending a good half-hour just running and jumping around without eating one person. I hate the racing minigames. It's kind of like how something is fun until you have to do it.
With the Point A to point B thing, I think those things are alright, and can even be fun, as long as they're optional. Something to do on the side if you get bored, or annoyed. During my brief time trying out DC Universe Online, I enjoyed the agility challenges and did a lot of them. I didn't have to, I could have completely ignored them, but I thought it could be fun to figure out how to traverse the city as fast as possible, especially since you can't exactly "fly" as agility. And those kind of things have their own place, but shouldn't be something mandatory.
Thing is, Prototype had the most fun running-around mechanics I'd ever played since Sonic 2, the very first video game I ever owned. And the running and jumping from roof to roof was comparable to Prince of Persia, at least more so that any other game I'd played recently. But I absolutely hated the racing minigames. I don't think I'm ever going to get any of those achievements, because once a game starts feeling like work, I lose interest and stop playing.

I have never cared for achievements nor seen their appeal. I must say I prefer it when they don't appear on screen. There seems to be precious few games that let me turn achievement notifications off. I find them distracting and immersion breaking.

Really? I could say playing games at all is a waste of time if it's only one or every one ever made, your friend just plays games a different way than you Her idea is quality over quantity they don't have to exclusive from each other but people tend to prefer one over the other at times(And some achievements do show a sign of skill. Defeating "X" solo/under a minute/without taking damage the developers likely think it's going the extra mile to beat something with a self-inflicked handicap.)

I'd say as long as she's not directly causing trouble for other players(on the same team) hacking/griefing or otherwise cheating she can do as she pleases,there's no wrong way to play a game(provided your following the rules and guidelines.).
