it was my 2nd anime, I liked it, but then i like chemistry and it's basically a slant on that with some magic and violence thrown in for good measure, so basically I'd say go for it, I loved the first series and the follow-up brotherhood is just as good, it puts more depth into the story but the first part is basically a re run so skip straight to episode 14 i think it is

I really liked the manga and both anime series but I hated the ending to the first series and the movie for some reason... it just didn't sit well with me...
I HATE the movie.
So much.
It added too much BS to the already messed up ending the first anime had, and they killed Elysia.
That alone sent my rage over the edge.
Yeah I know what you mean I never really thought much of the movie... If they wanted they probably could have turned it into an original movie if they wanted to with some name changes and slight plot changes...
Really.
Its bad enough they went the LOL NAZI!11!!!1! routt but, by the end of the movie the main characters where worse off they were before the movie.
Yeah that's why I hated the ending... it solves nothing...<.< I was really just saying that the movie could have been improved if they removed it's ties from FMA...
Besides I always find it funny when Nazis are the villain in anime...
I cpuld see it being better if it was separate for FMA.
And yea the Nazi thing is funny, but in FMA it made me go "Really? that's the best you could come up with?"
Well FMA was sort of an allegory for the first 2 world wars so they weren't exactly out of place... but I can't really say they fit in too well...<.<
Hmmm, i see your point but
More so in the first anime i think.
Its been a while since i saw the first one and iv been trying to keep up with Brotherhood on Adult Swim but, it comes on a night where i haft to go to bed early >_>...
It's predominant in both... but they each handle different aspects...<.<
Yea, and the Ishvalans really remind me of the Jews...though that could be just me.
Let's see here a nomadic middle eastern race following an ancient and considered deviant religion is persecuted by a country deep in nationalistic and racial pride...<.<

Pro tip to anyone watching the non-bro-hood series, make sure to watch "The Conqueror Of Shamballa" to finish it off ;)
Do you want to piss people off?
:p
Feel free to correct me, but isn't TCOS the movie that ties it up, I remember one of them added a slightly more satisfactory ending xD, (I preferred FMA to FMA-B storywise btw >.<)
Lol yea.
It ties it up, but by the end of the movie the main characters are worse off than before, and it just makes everything more confusing.
I liked the first animes story, but i love the Manga story more.
The first anime's story got too wtf imo, and the ending for the manga story actually let Edward and Alphonse BE HAPPY.

The anime, though alright #, never really grew on me. I got bored by episode twenty-something and stopped. Recently I've been noticing a trend with my anime liking. Mechs. I like mechs it seems...

I'm cool with non-happy endings, FMA-B went a bit over the top near the end xD. But I am not saying I dislike FMA-B, hell there so close they both score a 9/10 on my anime list net thing xD

I watched the anime first and liked it untill the ending. The ending was so terrible that I did not want to hear another word about the series but then I noticed that there existed a movie that took place after the series so I though "maybe this will fix that horrible ending?". I was wrong, the whole movie was a mess and it made the ending worse then it already was.

A while ago I heard from a friend that the manga and the anime have very a diffirent direction in the story so I started reading it. I quickly noticed a lot of changes. Some characters had changed names some characters did not exist at all and the general story had changed too (for the better). I have now read the whole manga and I can only say that I love it fully.

.... I love this series, I really do.

The first anime.... well, the first half is AMAZING. It expands on some character details that were missing in the manga. But, I was never particularly a fan of the second half, mostly because of the ending. Eesh...

The second anime has a better second half than first. Well, except the first ep. It's anime exclusive, but extremely good.

But the manga is DEFINITELY my favorite medium. Arakawa really has a talent for humor and emotion, and her characters are realistically portrayed, which makes me like them so much more.

My favorite character? Oh man, I don't want to spoil it for you, heh...

Im ok with them from time to time but FMA's felt really rushed and made me feel REALLY bad for Winry.
Though i do think the ending for FMA:B was perfect.
But that's just my opinion.

It seems good and I like Edward, but after the first 3 episodes I watched I couldn't bother continuing.

I loved the manga. Read it all the way through twice. Also watched halfway through the old anime, but stopped as it was just too different from the manga in a way I didn't like. Though the animation was awesome. So smooth <3
Not long ago, I finished the new version of the anime, sticking to the original manga storyline and I LOVED it. No fillers, the animation was good, especially on Envy in his true form and in total it was worth seeing.

I loved Brotherhood!!! But is it bad that I still cried when Hughes died? I mean, I knew it was coming, but I still leaked tears...dammit Hughes...

But FMA was amazing and it was a perfect combination of action, humor, and drama...

I think I'm going to go watch some FMA now...

It was my first anime, which got me into others. The mangas are great, but I haven't read all of them, or in order. I plan to watch FMA: Brotherhood some time in the future. Not now because I currently have about 10 other animes I need to finish and about 20 I want to watch.

I have a list.

I am a list person.

I watched all the first series but the ending really let me down and to be honest I wish I never saw the ending. The story was great up to the last 2 episodes.

watched the first anime and it jumped to the top of my list of favorite anime. Then i read the manga and I was actually shocked to find that it was so much better. Better story, better characters, all that jazz. Then I hear that their making another anime more closely based on the manga. "Yes please" I thought.

Love the first anime. I still remember people loving it despite the fact that it didn't follow the manga halfway through. Didn't mind the ending, though I will agree the movie wasn't exactly the best.

Brotherhood is pretty good too. The fight scenes are my most favorite part about it(besides the new animation of course), and it feels like every character gets their time in the spotlight at least once(Not that they didn't before).

Never read the manga though, so I don't know how different Brotherhood is from that, but I hear its a pretty good adaptation? Also, I found the dub for both animes to be pretty awesome; maybe its because none of the voices are annoying.

Also, weren't they going to do another movie that takes place after Brotherhood? Could've sworn I heard something like that.

I think fullmetal alchemist is one of the most fun yet smart series I've seen in recent memory. you should really start reading or watching it (brotherhood airs on adult swim).
oh and as a treat for the fans here's a picture I took at a recent convention.
