Let me just get this out the way, 110 BRITISH POUNDS FOR THE X1 AND 95 FOR THE PS4 JUST BECAUSE OF WHERE I LIVE?! THEY WANT ME TO PAY 670 DOLLARS FOR THE X1?!

First of all, i'd prefer it if both the X1 and PS4 remained highly competitive.

On Topic, we all expected a price jump from the conversion rate but I did not expect a 25%ish increase in price. Although Sony MAY have "won" this years E3, I'm still irked at the prices in the EU for both consoles. I doubt there has been a day in Google's history where so many people typed in '499 dollars in pounds' or '399 dollars in euros'. As I understand it from IGNs journalism of the past generation, typically the 360 did the best by a big margin in the US whereas the PS3 did better in Europe. So i'm surprised neither decided to make the conversion rate more reasonable over here, to try and win/maintain some business.

So, what are your thoughts on the international pricing? Expected it? Surprised? Expected but still shocked it happened? Can Microsoft afford to keep there price 100 dollars higher or will they have to cut it? Personally, i'm undecided still on which console to get, I'm expecting a price slash for the X1 before release so they can keep there more unsavoury features and still remain competitve.

Final note, God only knows what the price hike will for our Australian brothers and sisters.

350 GBP for PS4 and 430 GBP for the Xbox One so the PS4 is just within a range I am willing to consider while the Xbone can go fuck itself (just like the launch PS3 could) for what it offers if it dropped the 43 at the start I would consider one.

At least its not 499 GBP and 399 GBP though like usual (exchange rate whats that?). Isnt the PS4 region free though still? If so I am seriously considering importing one as I expect it will still be cheaper that way even after paying tax because 399 USD is about 250 ish GBP which is much more reasonable, I will have to look into this more first.

what pisses me off even more is that in the case of the Xbox we are getting less than the US. most of the TV features they showed dont exist out side of North America (most not even out of the USA itself) and yet we are expected to pay an extra £100 or so?...

It's actually £340 for PS4 and £450 for XO, so a bit of a bigger difference. Not much though.
The price is great, but has anyone seen the price of games? £55 is what I saw them for in the pre-order section in several websites. This is just ridiculous- I guess it's great we can all share games, as that means I'll buy 1 copy and share it to everyone I know just to save them a tiny bit of money.

where did you check? I just looked on Amazon and Play for the prices as I assumed it was all sorted now. As for 55 pounds for the games well they can try that but people are so used to 40 pounds ish now its hard for them to change (plus recession and shit) I reckon they could try and go for 45 and see if people bite and ofc 50 for COD because the mugs will buy it anyway.

I believe if they try 55 then all that will happen is people will buy much less games initially and just wait for them to drop in value but isnt it the publishers who decide game prices not Sony and Microsoft? I will wait and see anyway but I dont think they will get away with 55 pound prices expect maybe in Japan where there dosent seem to be a standard game price anyway.

I guess I could always import from the cheapest place as well although that dosent always help. I agree the PS4 price is reasonable though especially if I can get the correct exchange rate from NA then its more than reasonable.

It's the tax we have in this country, We have 20% off the bat, Plus other taxes, You have to remember there are only 60 million people in the UK compared to the US with it's 313 million people you can see why we pay more taxes.

Sorry I mis-read another article, you're correct (for PS4, didn't check XO). Somewhere my mind had made me think it was £340, and then £320. Dammit. Regarding game price- well, Sony definitely are encouraging used game sales...

I'm pretty pissed about it, but I didn't expect anythin else. We always get buggered blthat way. Still, 400 dollars is 300 euro. To ask for a hundred dollars extra is, well, it sucks.

£350 is a fair amount of cash, but still pretty reasonable for a brand new system. I remember paying near that price for the PS2, Dreamcast, PS3 ect. I've also just dropped £700 on a new PC, so this £350 seems like buttons in comparison.

It's a combination of EU import tax and UK VAT. Yeah, it's bullshit but it's something we have to live with.

I was pretty much sworn off buying an XBone even before pricing, but this is the final nail of the coffin. Now it's just a question of whether I can get over my hatred of PS contollers, whether there's enough console exclusive games to make getting any console worth it in the first place, and how long my graphics card holds up.

£350 could net me a decent second GPU, if my GTX650 proves ill suited to high end graphics by the end of the next gen launch year, and I've gotta figure the new Xbone controllers will work on PCs too. But depending how close I end up living to my mates, and what they end up doing, a PS4 just may end up the better spending avenue.
