Hi, Escapist. I have been a lurker for quite a while because I don't know English very well, so sorry for any mistakes.

I have been enjoying Penumbra: Black Plague recently and searching for similar titles (I already played the other Frictional games). Any suggestions for survival horror games on PC? Preferably with more exploration and puzzles than combat. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to The Escapist, where the flame wars are hot and the posters are crazy.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Slender: The Eight Pages might be just what you're looking for. The latter is free, too.

So I was going to name a few vague and for the most part unknown gems in the horror gaming genre.....but

this guy got pretty much everything...

*Edit, hah upon furthor analysis, he doesn't have 'Cry of Fear', a half-life mod. Check it out, it's been greenlight on steam.

**Edit, actually another one he doesn't have is 'Anna'!

They are great, but I already played. By the way, Amnesia was the last Frictional game.

I'm a big fan of Silent Hill 2 and 3. Three was my first survival horror.

I was already interested in Anna. And I'm sure I have Hunting Ground somewhere around here... time to dust off the PS2.

I'll take a look, thanks.

Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth is alright, Limbo and Lone Survivor are pretty sweet, Silent Hill, all of them, are musts. Deadly Premonition is worth checking out too as is Condemned. Also defo check out Alan Wake and it's expansions and American Nightmare mini-sorta-sequel-thing...

I know they're not PC games, but the Fatal Frame series (Also known as Project Zero) is a must-have for any fan of the horror genre. I can't vouch for the forth installment, not having played that one, but the first three are diabolically good.

Dead rising series.

Trololol.

Not really. BUT I heard someone say that it was survival horror somehow. It is not AT ALL. But I love it, so if it is then its the one and only survival horror game I liked.

I think my post is not usefull now... I dont know what I am even doing here.

EDIT: Is Bioshock a survival horror game? If so, I liked that one guy too.

Yeah, but can you FIND System Shock (1 & 2)?
I can, not to buy though. I wouldn't hold my breath in terms of being able to purchase it anywhere and it's not like Looking Glass is getting the $$ anyways. Seriously, check out The Madman's post and the link he left in this thread. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.389431-System-Shock-2-Thief-2-Get-Surprise-Patches
I knew there was a reason I checked out this board tonight. Damn good find Anthraxus

Good choices, but I already played Limbo, Lone Survivor, Condemned (not my cup of tea), Fatal Frame 2 (excess of backtracking killed the first for me), Alan Wake and American Nightmare. I don't know if I'm happy or not about that. It is becoming more and more difficult to find modern games with horror themes. Waiting for Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut, sounds very interesting.

More like an action game with dense atmosphere. Look like one in the beginning, but there is too much guns, and superpowers. And Vita Chambers. But I sadly never finished (game breaking glitch in Langford's office), maybe missed something that points in other direction.

And that's just my opinion, I don't think "survival horror" is a concrete thing.

Gamebreaking bug? you mean the one of the vault that wont give the items you need? Because the ghost cheat allows to bypass that...

Or maybe I am messed up, lol. Either way I guess Bioshock is not a survival horror game then.

But it was a long time ago. I remember more about my frustration than the game itself. Someday I'll try again from the beginning.

Yeah that was EXACTLY the one I was talking about.

I also had that one in 1 of my two playthougt (long story). Just use the ghost cheat to pass thourgout the next section and the game will automatically work just fine from there.
