You should check out Freefall [http://freefall.purrsia.com/ffdex.htm]!
The artwork is probably best described as 'rudimentary', but it gets the job done. The main attraction is the comedy, anyway.
The protagonist is Sam Starfall, the spectacularly incompetent captain of derelict spaceship 'The Savage Chicken'. Sam hails from a distant planet where larceny, laziness, cowardice and general obnoxiousness are hailed as the most admirable of virtues.
He is assisted by the only remotely sentient being that can stand being around him: Helix the robot, with the strength of a hydraulic jack and the personality of a small child.
In an effort to get his spaceship flying, Sam arranges for a chryogenically frozen engineer to be delivered to 'The Savage Chicken' by 'mistake'. Enter Florence Ambrose, an anthropomorphic wolf - the result of a controversial genetic experiment. Florence soon gets the 'Chicken' into space, but also finds herself saddled with the full-time job of keeping Sam and Helix in line...
The really impressive thing about Freefall is that much of the resulting comedy is based on pretty advanced science - but it is all presented in such an accessible way that any layperson can easily understand every punchline! Oh, and there is some genuine depth to it as well - the comic makes you genuinely care about its characters, and often manages to be both satirical and poignant!
