Persona 5 was the best Jrpg in over a decade by a good margin and FFXV actually came out and wasn't a bad game either.
The Grizzly Bear population at Yellowstone Park began slowly recovering. Also, I got a new job that provides more money and I enjoy it more.
I discovered a bunch of classic game gems that had slipped under my radar growing up:
Sid Meyers Colonization
Streets of Rage 1 and 2
Castlevania Bloodlines
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Naturally, none of these came out in 2016, but 2016 had the honor of being the year I gave them all a try.

Spontaneous purchase of Black Foxxes album led me into my biggest iPod library expansion for a good few years.

Some movies were good, Resident Evil 7 was unveiled, Doom and Hitman were released.
I liked the US elections.
I don't like football, but my country winning the Euro 2016 was notable.
No one I really cared for died, nor pets. I still have a job and I got around to start some projects of my own.

DC Comics launched its "Rebirth"... relaunch. And it' pretty good! I was SUPER down on the New 52 after the baffling decisions they made with it, but Rebirth has undone almost all of that badness and for the first time in a LONG time I'm greatly enjoying reading comics again.
In other DC news, Young Justice season 3 was announced. It hasn't been made yet, but it was announced in 2016 so I'm counting it as a win in 2016!
All in all, discounting movies, it's been a pretty good year to be a DC fan.

Columbia ended a 30+ year war with FARC, a brutal guerrilla army, by using negotiation rather than weapons.
Considering all the awful stuff FARC has done (executions, drugs, kidnappings, child soldiers) and vice versa in some cases (killing civilians and calling them rebels in order to look effective in the eyes of the people), it's really impressive that they were both willing to forgive each other in the name of peace.
