Children are considered taboo so it does pull in peoples attention seeing them killed. But seriously, if you can kill an adult, then why not a kid? What, a 10 or so years instantly makes them open to killing practice?

You must be this tall to die.

I knew I saw that somewhere.
Oh, come on! It's true, everything you do and say has been done by someone else already.

That movie... I don't know how to feel about it. Is it a comedy? Is it a bad horror that Phelous should review?

Heh, funny coincedence that I'd say something that it said... wait... I feel dirty.. ugh, I was on the same wavelength as that...
Eh? Movie? That's Left 4 Dead 2. In the L4D series, all 'chapters' start with a fake title card. Here's another.

Anyway, no, I agree. I just found it amusing. Your reaction was doubly amusing.
I haven't nore never intend to play Left 4 Dead since I don't have a wireless connection for my consoles, so I obviously wouldn't have known of the game.
Same. I play games for single player, only. (I can't be assed to pay a monthly fee ON TOP of buying the wireless adapter thing)

Makes it fairly depressing since most games are going the multiplayer/DLC route. (Whoever came up with the idea for DLCs needs to get destroyed.)

...Aaaaaand I went offtopic. Well, that's usual.

To put it this way, it's the difference between killing a wolf that is on the prowl and killing a bunny, but to a much larger degree.
You've clearly never seen a wild rabbit. (1) All their characteristic features are based around detecting predators and evading them, and (2) Those suckers can fight. Leg muscles that let them jump like that also allow for a hell of a kick or clawing.

You made a really good point about why we find killing children to be so heinous, but bad ending analogy.

I wouldn't mind if children die, I mean if they attempt to kill you in a savage environment where they are no laws, why wouldn't you try to stop them? The only problem is them overdoing it, such as with Dead Space 2, just doesn't seem normal, an overkill of too many 'children?' Just makes me feel yucky all over from the blatant 'shock' advertising.

Makes me wonder if playing the trailer backwards was a choice right in the beginning, or if that decision was made after they completed all the animation, and someone saw that it was more entertaining to watch backwards?

I think it was a choice they made before making the trailer. The idea (Or a rough draft of it) probably came up in a brainstorming meeting to 'What can we do to set this game apart from all the other zombie games out there, and how do we show the costumers that we mean business?'

But it is an amazing trailer, isn't it?

Honestly, seeing kids in a zombie game -- or similar -- is fine by me. The complete lack of them has always struck me as odd. Dead Rising 2 did a great job of having zombies of all manner of ethnicity, body type, and gender, but it still didn't have kids. Something has to cross the line eventually, so why not now?

Besides, who didn't want to shoot a few of the obnoxious brats in Fallout 3?

i wanted to clear out little lamplight so bad, especially getting rid of Mayor MacCready

Well, if anyone knows of a game where you play a soldier or merc in a third world African country, and one of the enemies is actual child soldiers, let me know...

OT: I only know of Dead Space 2 which has the children based enemies, but I see it as, if the child is a zombie or some other monstrosity, fuck the conventional "what about the children?" crap. What about the children? Re-Kill it.

Honestly, it is in response to the generation of media before us where children were the one thing that could not be killed in movies nor games.

Everyone goes off topic once and awhile.

I'm with you. I only play multiplayer if a friend is over.

I've started to notice this too.

I think we need to kind of chillax off of it though. It seems more like a "Oh, look what we can do! We are so raunchy!" kinda deal.

Though that trailer was tight and I actually have been waiting for this game for years.

Drakengard for the PS1.

You're fighting 'The Empire' (Which isn't exactly third world), but...I'll put this into perspective for you.

You have three party members. One is a Priest who is, surprise, a pedophile. The other one is an elf who is insane and eats children alive while screaming 'MY BABIES'.

Who is your third party member? A boy who is eternally 8 years old! OF COURSE! Just completes the whole little team, don't it?

Also, you actually get a mission to murder all of the children conscripts (Drafted because you murdered all of their parents who were fighting you at first). Some run from you and scream 'HELP US!' 'I DON'T WANT TO DIE!' 'Please...someone...save me!' But no. There is no help. You just slaughter all of them. Easily.

Then you set boats on fire and watch the women and children on them drown! (I have to admit, I had much, much more fun playing Drakengard than I should have.)

I was thinking more modern day game like Farcry 2, but damn... that does sound like a fun game... and I feel bad inside now...

Sure making kids fair game would jump up the realism a few notches but I don't think I would ever kill one on purpose.

Oh and that video started off kinda bleh but when you finally figured out what was happened it made me kinda sad. The footage from before the outbreak thrown in at the end made me really sad. Yea I'm kinda a empathetic person.

EDIT:

I think it is the fact that if they played it the normal way you would know how it ended from the start. The little girl dies, at which point there is not real reason to pay much attention besides the action. By playing it in reverse you are constantly trying to piece together what happened. It makes it more engaging.

I'm one of the people who sat there punching kids in the face in Fallout 3, slowly getting more and more pissed off that the little bastard wasn't dying. I even used up my entire supply of mini-nukes trying to kill them.
this is why i played the pc version of fallout 3; when the kids got on my nerves, all i had to do was find a mod that made the little buggers mortal..

OT: the ones who made the video knew there was a risk of stirring up controversy and are probably banking on it; wonder if EA had anything to do with this.

i don't think kids should get special treatment in games or any other media. they didn't always, like in the movie Maximum Overdrive where lawnmowers and baseball equipment turned on a little league team if i remember correctly. also Fable allowed you to teach kids some manners too..

what?.. [small]they shouldn't have made fun of my horns..[/small]

What an emotional and touching scene, the music says it all. It's funny because people outside of the gaming community view ultra-violent gorey games as being a bad influence, but many people inside the gaming community see it as being roll-your-eyes immature.

I'm not declaring this game as being that, but having a bunch of kids dying gratuitously does kinda imply they're trying to jump on a certain bandwagon.

It has emotional resonance. Admittingly it has less resonance when you see it all the fucking time, but I digress.

Typically children are not meant to suffer when something horrible like war happens. So when children do suffer or die, it's means shit's gotten serious.

oh hey, thanks for ruining something from dead rising II, awesome.
What got ruined? You get told right at the beginning. "Katie needs Zombrex or she'll turn into a zombie. GET IT, CHUCK? DO YOU HEAR ME? THAT'S WHY YOU WERE ON THAT GAME SHOW, REMEMBER? REMEMBER THAT, CHUCK?"

Seriously, that CURE woman was almost as bad as Navi.
