Anyway...have to wonder, though. After children, what do they move on to? Seems like they've gotten pretty much everything in video games at this point. Even threesomes. (God of War)
Foursomes, obviously.
And after that...foursomes with children? (Yeaaaah, I felt wrong even typing that. I apologize. I really do.)

Aaaaaanyway, technically, Dog fo Raw 3 had a foursome. Well, technically it was just an orgy since it was two groups of two, but hey. Four people involved in sexual acts within very close proximity. That counts, right?
It has to be in a high-profile game. The envelope hasn't been sufficiently shoved if FOX News hasn't talked about it.

Its not a hook; its the reality.

As much as society tries to make children out to be little angels that can do no wrong, in reality many adults see them for what they really are; incompetent, annoying parasites that serve little purpose other than to absorb the resources, time and patience of the adults around them. and have near-perfect immunity from any sort of backlash.

We want to see them die, or at the very least, go away.
I agree with this 100%!

Though in Dead Rising 2, if you didn't get the Zombrex, Katey doesn't murder everyone, she just turns and (I'm guessing here) she gets killed by all the other survivors.

As for the topic at hand: Why not have children die, especially in horror games. Horror games are supposed to unnerve and disturb you, if killing kids makes you uncomfortable, then the games succeed.

I just saw it a few minutes ago, but do you really think that zombies would ignore children.
besides the people who made this game have balls doing it.

Besides, who didn't want to shoot a few of the obnoxious brats in Fallout 3?
I didn't. I had the Child at Heart perk, and thus Little Lamplight became my absolute favorite town/item shop/resting place.

Anyways, games are forever trying to shove the envelope. This is the next step.
Quoted for truth: anyway why is it whenever these threads come up a swarm of child-haters decend on it almost instanteously? No offense anyone but everytime I see a "I hate kids" post I just think "Oh look, another teenager/young adult who hasn't matured enough yet to understand parenting".

OT: I'm honestly not sure whether games where killing children by the player is possible should be allowed, on the one hand it's not harming anyone but then on the other hand... I fear for the mental stability of anyone who'd get pleasure out of that sort of thing. I'm OK with the enemies killing children though as that isn't the player doing the deed and so could be used for emotional effect.

I just saw a trailer for a game called Dead Island. (Awesome trailer, by the way. It's in the thread like two below this one)

The trailer basically consists of a young girl and her parents dying horribly. (From zombies. Of course!)

I'm led to believe that if a game has 'Dead' in its title, it automatically hates children.

Dead Space: Lurkers, Crawlers, and Pack. Babies, Toddlers, and Infants! Death to all!

Dead Rising (2): The protagonist's 11-ish year old daughter can turn into a zombie and murder everyone! Death to all!

Dead Island: Focus of the trailer dies horribly and turns into a zombie! Death to all!

I'm not saying that its BAD to answer the question 'Well, what about happened to the children?' It's just kind of shocking that they include it. Probably because I'm used to games just straight up not having children, or if they do, the children are totally invulnerable. (Looking at you, Fallout)

Has killing children become the new way to garnish free publicity, as controversy always does? (For example, the Church's outcry against Angels & Demons probably made MORE people go see it.)

Especially with the 'Video games make rapists and murderers!' craze that seems to be flaring up again. (Not that it ever died down, just seeing more articles about it all of a sudden. Again.)
It's funny you give this argument without showing the actual video, are you trying to harness the sympathy of people that not yet watching the video?

Tbh, this video is not using a tasteless way to depict the children attacked by zombies, it was a sad reminder that when they have to survive a zombie attack, the possibilities of children get hurt is possible. And it was portrayed nicely, without resorting to "shocking" attempts.

So here the video, let others watch it first and take their own assumption.

its to envoke sadness. in dead space its pretty sad when you realize that all the babies and toddlers have been turned into necromorphs

and in dead rising 2, its a bit sad that his daughter has been bitten by a zombie and he has to do everything he can to keep her from turning

the dead island trailer was extremely saddening :( but it was a fantastic trailer

I was playing Dwarf Fortress a couple of weeks ago when a goblin ran onto my map, stabbed a baby in the face, then ran off again.

That game really hates children[footnote]And everyone else...[/footnote].

I see no appeal in killing children... Unless Grunts from Halo are children... OMG what have I done?

That invincibility of children (because someone think about the children) in any medium was getting pretty annoying.
It's good that we're getting over it cause now the most annoying characters finally have a realistic chance to die.
Truth.

The whole "we can't kill children" hook was really, really annoying. You see children in games/movies and just know these kids won't die because they are kids. It's unrealistic and annoying. I'm not asking for a game about killing them, but it would be nice to give them the same possibility of death as the other characters for a change.

You mean this trailer? I just saw it and thought it looked amazing. To answer the question, I don't know why it is popping up lately in games.

I thought the trailer was well done. Sure, there is a dead little girl in it, but overall I wouldn't say it was tasteless. I mean mowing down a room full of 10 yr olds with a mini-gun would be more along the lines of just pure shock value.

I never said it was tasteless, nor am I attempting to harness sympathy for...uh...what exactly would I be harnessing sympathy for? A sympathy powered death ray?

I'm one of the people who sat there punching kids in the face in Fallout 3, slowly getting more and more pissed off that the little bastard wasn't dying. I even used up my entire supply of mini-nukes trying to kill them.

As I said...it was an awesome trailer. It made me really want to go learn more about the game. (Sadly, most of the things that I found were screenshots with Rick Astley's 'Never gonna give you up' playing in the background.)

Too bad this hook didn't exist around the planning stages of Tokyo Mew Mew. A horrible character death would have really spiced it up a little.

Yeah, as I just commented in the other thread, I found it a little disturbing too. But I think it's a good thing. We've been way too overly protective of virtual children. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying those making those trailers and such aren't using it as a marketing hook cause of the shock value, but even so, I think it's good overall that we step over that taboo for the sake of storytelling in general.

I guess it would have been too controversial to animate a zombified little girl? Anyway, in her case, death would be merciful. They Forscythe goes on about how her sister allowed herself to turn because the drug was apparently making her life a misery, Katey would have to deal with that for the rest of her life.
...The case west expansion ends with the revelation of a cure, but the twat in charge would prefer to "punish mankind" or some such Wesker-ripoff. You know Capcom.

You can kill a kid who's possessed by a demon. There are other ways, but you can say "fuck it, murder the twerp."

Well, that's alright then, at least put the video so people can view it and give unbiased comments.
