Okay, I was arguing with a friend and Me, Calumon, and my Elder Brother agree that I am right. the free OS for computers and other things (Not PS3, don't try it anymore) is pronounced Li-nux. My friend says it's Ly-nux.

"It's not Wy-ndows" I say
"But it is called I-Mac" He replies
"Wanna Play?" Says Calumon
"Not now, have a fudge-cicle" I reply.

I know what your all thinking "Tom-ay-to Tom-a-to." But no, there is a right way to spell and a right way to say things, and I know I am right!

Calumon: This only sounds good if you say Li-nux. Ly-nux sounds too wordy.

I think it's Li-nux. Never heard of anyone saying Ly-nux before, in fact.

I think this word is sussecpible to Britishisms and Americanisms.

Brits say Li, Americans say Ly.

Well that would make sense. Considering American accents, I guess it's easier.

Calumon: What about Digimon Accents?

I've never heard it pronounced 'Lynux', ever. Maybe it's where I live, I dunno. (Utah, BTW.)

I have worked with Linux for 4 years now and I have never heard it called Ly-nux. I can understand that the idea for that pronunciation comes from Linux's original creator, Linus Torvolds (first name pronounced "Ly-nus"). However it is pretty much universally accepted to pronounce it Li-nux.

Linus is pronounced Li-nus in Swedish and that is probably why we say Li-nux. If the creator was British/American/whatever, we would most likely say Ly-nux.

That's interesting. I've only ever seen it in word form, and have never actually attempted to pronounce it in my head.

But now I alternate between both sayings. Damnit.
