Li-nux. I've never heard it pronounced Ly-nux before. Ly-nux definitely isn't an Americanism I've ever heard.

I say li-nux I guess.. like when I say "Sorry, what is Li-nux?" or "No.. I don't use Li-nux" or something, which really looks harsh now i've typed it

I've never heard it pronounced 'Lynux', ever. Maybe it's where I live, I dunno. (Utah, BTW.)

We do? Damn it, I better pay closer attention.

I say Li-nux; therefore this statement is invalid.
Well, it's a good thing I said I think the word Linux is sussecptible to Britishisms and Americanisms.

Anyway, yer all wrong, it's pronounced Lee-nooks.

I think it's pronounced "Lee-nux". Since it's a swedish name and here in Sweden we say "Lee-nux".

I'm perfectly willing to admit that it's the wrong pronunciation (can't really argue with the creator), but it's a foreign word, so I'm quite happy to pronounce it differently.
As far as I know it's not a foreign word as much as it is a completely made-up word, being derived from the name Linus which is the name of its creator.

Me? I say Linux, of course. Would you pronounc the name of Jacques Chirac "Jack-wiz Chai-rack"?

It was based on UNIX. Which is not pronounced 'yoo-nyks'.
Oh crap... I've been pronouncing it as yoo-nyks all my life... so is it supposed to be un-nix?

Well, I'll count a word/name invented by a foreign person as a foreign word.

As to Jaques Chirac, I'll ask how you pronounce 'Paris'. I'm 99% certain it's not the same as how a French person would pronounce it.

Then again, pronunciation is a sort of pointless arguement anyway. Given that anyone in the North of England pronounces simple, common words like 'bath' differently to me (and people in the US probably say it a number of different ways between them as well), it's clear there is never going to be a common pronunciation system ever, so why should the word 'Linux' be treated differently.

I usually pronounce it in my head as "Links", although "Lie-nux" is probably more accurate.

Shouldn't that be Lie-Nux or Lin-ux? Anyone who says it any other way has serious problems with pronounciation.

BTW People who pronounce Ubisoft as Oo-bi-soft, I pronounce it You-be-soft because if I said oo-bi-soft I would sound like a retard, STOP CORRECTING ME OR I WILL HURT YOU!
