Great game, especially if you like the Telltale games(it not by Telltale, its by Dontnod, but you know what I meant). And now that the first episode is free, you have no reason to have a look at what all the fuss is about.

Its a really fun game, very well written, covering a range of topics and emotions that most games don't touch. It was second on my GOTY list last year so I definately recommend checking it out.

Hopefully that will help the game get (even more) positive coverage and fans.

While it wasn't the best adventure game (or what do you call these games? I've basically just called them Telltale-style games but that's not terribly helpful), getting to play in a role that you never really see anywhere was a nice change of gaming pace. It's one I would strongly recommend to anyone who likes the Telltale-style games.

Was this the game that caused a distressed but hygienic Nova Scotian to horribly lose a drinking bet, spew alcohol across his gaming habitat and dive into an emotional spiral that concluded in him making the entreaty to his audience, "just slit my throat, pour some alcohol in and finish me off"?

We are intrigued. Cannot wait to thrash like Mad Max.

Well good news then. You don't play as the lesbian girl with blue hair (although her sexuality can be argued about whether she is a lesbian or not as it's not really established throughout the game).

You play as Max, who does not have blue hair and whose sexuality is basically determined by you the player based on your actions. Although granted, to the best of my knowledge, she is always a teenage girl so I guess you're stuck with that.

How the hell could you not, dude? Lesbians RULE!!!

OT: Yeah maybe, if I ever feel very masochistic. I could barely get through the demo, the hipster level was so off the charts. And I still can't get wrap my head around the fact that Max is supposed to be 18 when she looks barely 15.

....um...I don't know? Who are you talking about? What Nova Scotian? What bet?

Live with two of them, can confirm.

And chalk it up to a shitty engine and largely crap designs if it isn't a landscape. Alot of time was put into making sure you knew who the "good" people were and why what they do doesn't matter because of the "bad" people.

Eh, it can also be argued that the steps for determining her sexuality require a damned walkthrough that makes Dragon Age 2 look like a realistic dating sim.

But yeah, still stuck playing a teenager that has a savior complex and guilt streak a mile wide who thinks fujifilm is the height of artistic quality for no other perceivable reason than not being able to afford actual digital or go full-on old school.

Seems pretty normal for episodic content to do this; most of the first episodes of almost every Telltale game are free. The sad part is that Episode 1 of Life is Strange is not especially good. The intro is fantastic (the hallway scene) but before anything has the chance to get interesting, the it ends with a foreshadowing montage.

The rest of the game is pretty solid, even though the hipster lingo can get pretty cringe-worthy.

Well, actually I'm thinking this might be the next game I finish. I started it a while back but...how should I put it - I liked a lot of things about the game, but also there were few that rubbed me the wrong way. Few but I felt them important. I just lost interesting thinking I should come back to finish it later. I think now might be the time.

What I didn't like was the choices you were given. It was...ugh, it was really forced. I'm not against choices in games, indeed, I really wanted to see this in action. It's why I got the game in the first place. But a sizeable number of the choices were there purely to have choices. Example - very, very mild spoiler from the beginning of Episode 2:

You are inside a diner and your phone rings. If you pick up, your friend who is with you gets into an argument with her mother (because you stay inside). If you don't pick up, you get outside and avoid the argument, yet you ignore somebody on the other end of the line. I've not seen yet what that means in the long run (stopped playing shortly after that) but that was a very forced dilemma. You could very easily walk outside and answer your phone. In fact, you are literally at the exit at that point. Three paces and you get outside, pick up the phone and avoid the argument with the mother. It's just very awkward and it's not really the only situation like this either. Beginning of the game - the fire alarm goes off and you are trying to evacuate and the principal stops you to talk to you about why you haven't evacuated yet.

It's small things but most of those could have been easily avoided by re-framing them. Diner scene - you're still stuck in a booth far away from the exit, for example. Principal scene - he meets you outside.

From what institution did these developers take their English lessons? :I
........oooookay then. Guess I don't see the amusement in watching someone just get shitfaced for no reason, but to each their own I guess.

You say that, but note that thanks to alcohol, he survived that session to record further gameplay later.

So that was the reason, I guess..to be alive at the end of it.

To give it credit it only took 2 episodes for me to want every character to die a slow painful arduous death. Only few Final Fantasy games can make me hate a cast that quickly. That's some achievement I guess.

If you don't take that call, you're gonna regret it later. XD

Honestly, yeah, a LOT of the game's decisions feel really forced, and most of the time the choice comes down to "do the right thing" or "piss off Chloe." There are also parts in the game where Max will come up with an idea all on her own, the game forces you to do it, and then the next chapter will make you feel guilty for making a choice you had no say in... in a "choice-driven narrative."

Again, it's worth playing through because the good definitely outweighs the bad, but a lot of those big choice moments do feel pretty forced, especially when there's no reason that some of those choices don't really have to be a choice at all. Take a picture of the security guard bullying a girl or step out and stick up for her? Max has a SMARTPHONE. There's literally no reason she couldn't have done both.
