This sounds kind of weird saying the same thing twice, but I'm afraid I'll get yelled at for continuing from the title. What are some words to live by that you've picked up throughout life?

On Wendnesday, my grandpa and I had just finished siding his lake cabin, and were about to throw away the trash left over. There was some pasture ground just across the road from the dumpsters (in Nebraska, there's pastures everywhere), and the cows were lounging in the shade. As Grandpa was backing his pickup up to the dumpsters, he looks over at me and says "Cows wouldn't make very good research scientists. They're never curious about anything."

But on a more serious note, my dad taught me that it's okay to be myself and enjoy the time I have, because he remembers what it's like to be my age. He even learned of a time when I and a large group of friends went on a ding-dong ditching spree. He told me I probably shouldn't do that, but then he and his fiancee look at each other and start laughing as he says "But we did it anyway!"

I follow a simple rule. Everyone I meet is a potential dumbass until they prove otherwise.

Never try to break a big stick on a tree, the end will snap off and smack you in the back of the head.

Seriously, don't do it, get a pair of cutters or an axe and prevent an injury that hurt and makes you feel incredibly stupid since you know it was totally your fault that it happened.

Not just a stick. Don't try that with a 2x4. I did and I almost lost my thumbnail.

Perfect.

Ignoring the dick-heads doesn't help.
Remember your parents "Oh, just ignore them."? It doesn't work.

A-fucking-men. And why is it always the people you are obligated to interact with that are the dumbest. I've had to call certain companies that could potentiall beceom suppliers to the store, yet every time I pick up the phone I have to talk to a retrard parrot.

Love is the best medicine.

This is my life lesson,

Never, EVER, EVER offer young children candy when cops are walking by.

or offer them a ride in your car

or rape them in public

it just gets you arrested. -_-

when will cops learn!?

'Suicide kills'

Really it does!

...

Seriously though, I've got one:

"There are laws, but who will make us follow them? No one, 'cause the shepherd who walks in front, can redeem, but has no split hooves."

Think about it...

Keep expectations extremely low, especially when dealing with people. You can't be disappointed from something above expectations.

Keep expectations at a reasonable level, especially when dealing with people. Dealing with disappointment will strengthen your resolve and make you realize you should have done it yourself anyway. ^_^ No? Damn, it was worth a shot.

Learn to forgive. Forgetting is near impossible, but living a rewarding life with out forgiveness is impossible. Forgiving doesn't mean that you forget, but instead that you don't allow the knowledge of the forgiven act to have influence on your choices today.

Giving is better then receiving.

Learn to listen. You would be surprised what people would tell an open ear.

Take responsibility for your actions. Many will respect you when you admit that you have made a mistake and are quicker to overlook the fact.

Don't rely on the world to fix your problems for you.

Love.

Actually, that sounds much better than what I said.

"You should always wear clean underwear because you'll never know if you'll be knocked down by a cart." [http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/The_Way_of_Mrs._Cosmopilite]

Also wise advice in situations without carts, too.

I've learned that there are only two universal truths in life; Death, and Crap happens.

Forgive those who have wronged you. Life can end at any moment, don't die with hate in your heart

Don't judge. Judging only serves to hinder your spiritual growth.

If smoking is the worst thing your child does then you've done a good job as a parent.

"Play it cool"

Over the last few months I've learnt that when somthing happens its never that good to become to overwhelmed with it. If you can stay somewhere within the middle of the 'happy/sad' scale you can get along quite well.
