I like multiplayer, just not online multiplayer. Playing with a friend is far better than playing alone I find.

I'd be fine if they removed all traces of the online multiplayer though.

Don't even get me started on DLC.
DLC > Multiplayer

I mean, seriously. DLC is single player content. I'd rather buy Horse Armor than a Map Pack, because it'll be there forever. With MP, once the community goes, the game is nearly useless. Unless you just want to dick around with a few friends, and can actually arrange a full match.

The best games were 2-player on a couch, in front of the console and didn't even do split screen.

The problem with online multiplayer is the other players.

I can almost picture it, no high voiced 5 year olds calling me gay because I killed them three times in a row, no people telling me I suck because we lost. Its glorious. *sniff*

I don't see what the problem is. There are plenty of single player games around.

If you don't like multiplayer (which is understandable) then don't buy multiplayer games.

Life without multiplayer is a regular life for me. Perhaps I'd miss BF2 project reality a bit sometimes.

My main obsession *cough* Fallout 3* is single player and thats all you need man Multiplayer is just the polisher for the turd that is campaign example: MW2 even though the multiplayer sucked as well.

I like single player more, and I've picked up some games with great online experience just for the single player (Uncharted 2 comes to mind, only played like 1-2 hours of multiplayer), and would probably rejoice if the focus on game developing went into only single player.

But it depends on the games, I've been playing Modnation Racers for the past 3 days and I hate how unstable their servers are because I just love the multiplayer on it. It's probably the only game in the last ~2 years where I actually gave a crap about multiplayer tho.

All multiplayer games need to be augmented with bots.

That way there is still "someone" to play with when the game is eclipsed by the next big thing.

Would be a far better world.
I raise my glass to both of you. Rejoice to the gamers who enjoy the good old one-on-one experience.
Seconded
I disagree with all of you! I don't do online multiplayer, but sometimes I like to sit down and play with my flatmate. We're currently playing co-op story mode on Rainbow Six: Vegas, and it is fun. We can talk tactics, make plans, and generally beat the hell out of some terrorists.

Same with Blood Bowl, or Pro Evo. What I hate about multiplayer titles is the way the box will proudly bost of a co-op function, but it turns out you can only play co-op online. Damn it, no, if I'm playing co-op I'm going to play with a person in the same room!

Interesting point, however I would consider myself a HUGE proponent of Multiplayer. Multiplayer has fostered many wonderful communities, and has allowed many, many people to meet others who share a great hobby and pastime. Single player is great, but Multiplayer is just a different beast entirely.

Eh. I'm on the fence about this. I really like single player experiences, but on the other hand, I find games can easily become stale without a replayable factor you can endlessly enjoy with your friends. I realize that campaign can provide, but usually it gets a bit dull after a bit...

TF2 is great multiplayer. I find that it has one of the best multiplayer communities/player bases, there are far less wankers there.
Also, online co-op with friends in L4D2 is great fun. I usually play with people i met on Tf2, since the L4D2 player base has more greifers and n00bs.

The problem really is primerially single player franchises turning into MP dominated ones. Adding MP, especially if its handled in parallel rather than by the same team, is fine, if it works. A MP spin off is fine to, as long as the SP games continue (with the proviso that theres anywhere for the SP story to go).

MP games can also have training SP modes as long as they don't pretend they're anything else.

Going the other way in many case wouldnt work.

Both should be allowed to florish and its fine for either to be the focus of the game.
