How can you say that? Life itself - the ability to make decisions consiously is... astounding. I used to think life was just DNA and chemicals but now I'm not satisfied with that answer. There is more to it.

Astounding yes but why on earth would that mean there is more to it? Fractals are astounding but they are mathematics. Nothing more to them as there is nothing more to life.

Life is whenever we do something, anything. The sum of everything we do and think. (Though life can mean other things too. It's a multiple purpose word.)

There are some who talk about "succeeding" at life. Very often their perception of success is directly related to social connections, meaningful job, relationship & children, independence etc.

I say that if you're fine with sorting stamps all day, there is nothing wrong with doing that.

I think it's just an evolutionary advantage to be able to think, at least, once you're a giant, multi-celled organism, it is.

My theory has always been that if some principle of the universe didn't work exactly the way it does, the world simply wouldn't exist. Perhaps there are millions of nearly parallel universes that would have existed except that water didn't behave exactly the right way in one, or gravity was just a little bit wrong in another.

And art is just 'cause we're special as humans. It's essential to culture, which probably keeps us in our tribes or whatever.

Art is a subjective term. Paintings and sculptures are manipulations of stone and pigment. Music is manipulation of air. Dance is manipulation of the body.
