I started the 5-2 diet around the middle of July. Since then, I've lost 2 jeans sizes.

A friend's mother told me that 2 jeans sizes equal about 8 kilograms. I don't know if she's right about that, but it feels fantastic that the diet is working. While I can't really say that I was fat before I started (I've got a naturally sturdy build, as much of a bad excuse as it sounds like), I look slimmer and I feel healthier. Yay!

That feels like a small victory for me. And that got me thinking: What are some of the small things in life that have made you feel like a winner, or generally awesome or satisfied?

Other feelings of accomplishment come from getting a story posted on NotAlwaysRight's sister pages, I've found. I've gotten one on NotAlwaysRelated, which was also one of the top stories for June, and three on NotAlwaysLearning. I would link them, but I'm not sure if that's against the rules, or if anyone cares for that matter.

I had a medical procedure to confirm coeliacs (gluten intolerance) scheduled for December, which is a hell of a time to wait since I can't progress any further with a new diet until there is confirmation, which then got moved to the end of October and then on Friday I got a call saying because of a cancellation would I like to come in this Monday? My luck stat must be through the roof!

I managed to go buy some milk yesterday.
Which felt like a fucking huge victory because that was one of those days when my anxiety was bad enough that just being around people felt like an impossible task.
And I didn't really need milk, I could have just drank tap water.

Go me.

Crikey! He's an unusual fellow. What did he say???

OT: I got through a particularly busy evening at work yesterday without anything going awry. We were waiting on several groups of people who almost all got in late, so we were behind schedule, but nobody lost their cool and we all soldiered on through it together. Great colleagues.

It was at a press conference about his new film Casanova Variations. He was answering the typical questions about his persona, always talking very slowly and very carefully. At one point a bloke asked if he could wave at the camera, and Malkovich replied: "Can I... or will I?". The bloke was perplexed. Malkovich repeated the question with utter calm. The bloke just laughed nervously and sat back down.

That was at the San Sebastián Film Fest a few days ago. I ran into Viggo Mortensen, Antonio Banderas, Orlando Bloom and the dude that plays Jamie Lannister in Game of Thrones (I don't watch the show). I also met Denzel Washington and talked to him for about 5 minutes :)

Yesterday I was able to successfully buy the right mustard I needed to make sloppy joes. Not that difficult you say? Well there was an entire aisle full of mustards of varying hotness, sweetness, and flavouredness I had to choose from.

The wrong choice would have been disastrous.

Why the hell wasn't there just french's?! I found the heinz ketchup XD

Bloody hell, you're a lucky one getting to meet all those people! I remember watching behind-the-scenes footage of the second Hobbit film...Orlando Bloom was all dressed up as Legolas, standing on top of some scenery prop, waving his bow and shouting "WOOOOO!"

I was on holiday in New Zealand once many years ago. We went up some snowy mountain on a ski lift and could see them filming the mountain pass sequence for The Fellowship Of The Ring in the distance. Even from that distance away, it was pretty neat to get to see them doing their thing.

...And yep, that sounds more or less like I'd imagine John Malkovich. I can only presume that he then turned into a giant moth and flew into the moon.

I made paleo-friendly mini frittata muffins yesterday, with beef and pork. I felt very pleased with myself for that one, especially as I only made them because I was bored after work yesterday, and I needed to take a break from playing Smash bros. 3DS, but it also means that lunch for the next few days is sorted. Woo.

That may feel like a small victory for you, but I know how hard achieving that can be.
Don't talk it down.
Steady loss like that is sustainable.

...but back on topic.

Hum.
Little victories...

I assembled a cabinet for a relative recently, and it actually looked as good as the one on the packaging.
Yes, that flat packed furniture is just a model kit for adults when you think about it, but for the rest of that afternoon I had a fix-it Felix like swagger in my walk.

Last night one of my budgies out of nowhere started doing somersaults. For no obvious reason other than that she must've felt like it. I never even trained her to do it, she just figured it out one day. It was the cutest damn thing I saw in weeks.

Best of luck buddy, my other half is coeliac and the new diet has made her feel much better and managing it wasn't as bad as we thought. I'm sure you know all you need to already and I'm no expert but any questions please feel free to ask :)

Sure. I found this real descent frozen patties of Philly cheese steak (and that may be hard to find but it would be better from a local butcher and it may double the cost but it would be worth it) So take like half a pound of that and add any really hot salsa you can find and any kind of Thai peanut sauce you can find.

Cook the steak, kill the heat then combine 3 parts peanut sauce to hot sauce until combined. Put that in a tortilla. My steak was From HEB that I can not find on their site. Hot sauce I like http://www.silverleafinternational.com/product/scorpion-salsa/ or http://www.amazon.com/Blairs-After-Death-Hot-Sauce/dp/B0000DG55M/ref=sr_1_12?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1412544185&sr=1-12&keywords=blair%27s+hot+sauce and peanut sauce https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMqmdc7dR88.

Seems like most things that seem improbable to me turn out to be entirely realistic and it always surprises me.

For example:

- Didn't think I could bring my non-university friend on a trip to Amsterdam with my Uni's chemistry society. Turns out I could.
- Didn't think that I could get a second friend to come along since the deadline at this point was long past. Turns out someone was wanting to sell their ticket.
- Didn't think that I could meet the entry requirements for a Japanese Studies Master's diploma at uni with a 2:1 in chemistry and an incredibly basic knowledge of Japanese language, especially since the entry requirements were either "a good first degree" or "an experience with east Asia". Turns out the webpage was out-of-date and the entry requirement is just a 2:1.

Stuff like that happens all the time and never seizes to make me happy :)

Cheers, the signs are pointing that way, I have a brother with it already so I know a lot from him (and partly the reason I got myself tested in the first place) but thanks for the offer :)

Thank you very much.

OT: I had two more small victories today. One, I'm finally getting somewhere with my driver's license. I actually started doing those online tests that are required. You need to do 5 - 6 of them, and I took one yesterday and one today.

I passed both of them. Not on my first try, mind you, but it feels so sood to at least have them over and done with.

The second victory is mom telling me that the pear marmalade I just made is the tastiest marmalade she's ever had.

Don't take it the wrong way; It wasn't that I got praise. My parents often compliment me on my work. It's that I improvised with the flavorings for the marmalade, and the experimenting turned out to be a success.

It feels good to succeed with cooking.
