I was surfing around a couple of days ago on the evolving of games and i realised, gaming on a PC is expensive, the evolving of the hardware like video cards and processors is extremely high...
A new computer is practicly old within a couple of months.
So i wonder... how long do you thing my Rig will live before it get's old?

I think it already has gotten old, 2.4Ghz is a minimum requirement for a lot of current games, especially with Core2quad around

Couldn't you have kinda melded this with your other thread about how awesome your computer is?
It is not. My PC is kinda crappy, and even I have only a bit worse CPU and RAM that he has. Better GPU, monitor and OS (sorry, Vista Home and any other sucks).

Anyway, your CPU is kinda old now.

RAM is okay, so is HDD.

GPU is weak. Very weak, compared even to a generic 8800 GT.

Oh, this is a laptop? Laptops get old super-fast. Mine was old after a year.

Ha! You think you have problems. Allow me to present my three-year-old laptop, which is so bad by today's standards it might as well be powered by steam.

2Ghz single-core processor
1GB of RAM
70GB Hard Drive
128MB Graphics Card

I really need a new computer.

Use of quotation fail.

Edit: Having taken time to read the comments, I'd say the 5 second time would own you. But then my reliance on reason and cogency has always been my downfall on the internet.

For gaming, well it's a laptop it was obsolete before the guy at the store you bought it from stuck your cash in the till. For everything else it will do the job fine for a good few years.

I'm using a core 2 duo 1.8 and I can run everything fine.

Even Dawn of War II which came out like two months ago.

Runs Fallout 3 on Ultra...
Runs Mirror's Edge on high...etc.

One thing about pc's i've learned is that your much better off dropping say $1000 to $1200 every few years for a new machine then say 4-6 thousand "monster rig" and expect it to last you for the next ten.

The newest processors and video cards will always have a price premium, and really only those who 'must' have the latest and greatest will pay for that. (I'm guessing you aren't one of those) I personally wouldn't use a laptop for a gaming rig, simply because upgrading a component like your graphics card is usually impossible.
Of course you may need it for other things so I guess if you must have a laptop then the one you have sounds reasonable, you just won't be able to play high end games that require DX10 or an ultra fast CPU. That's not the worst thing in the world. :)

Depending on how much money you're willing to spend on updating your cpu and graphics card every couple of years. That is the most basic PC updates one might do, as RAM and such are pretty cheap and if you're mobo supports up to 8Gb, then you have almost no problems with it. The CPU could be worse as Intel and AMD seem to crank out different sockets for thie processors...The bastards...
