As Tanaka and his entourage left, one of them brushed past Avalanche and slipped a note into his pocket. As soon as everyone settled in and began talking about their abilities, he slipped it out and began reading. Two targets, hit nearly simultaneously... He thought. That explains why Tanaka brought in so many runners.

"Hey, the fuck does this guy think he is, our fuckin' Den Mother?"

"Hell, he's probably had enough experience to warrant being a bit overconfident." Avalanche whispered back. "Don't mean that it doesn't make him arrogant, though..."

"Oh-ho-ho, look who's gettin' all high an' mighty all of a sudden. I'm surprised his head hasn't fuckin' popped with that massive ego."

He tried to avoid laughing audibly after that statement, and managed to keep it down to a quiet chuckle. "Look who's talking." Avalanche continued speaking so only Clay could hear it. "One might almost say you're as bad as he is right now."

"Well, that was a subtle fuckin' hint. Makes me wonder how well he does at the Hold 'Em tables. You play poker? I fuckin' love poker, one of the greatest games ever thought of if ya ask me."

"Never had the opportunity to play." He stated.

"Who knows? They may think it's a fuckin' Girl Scout meetin' or somethin'. Alls we need is to get our 'Den Mother' a sash and beret, then boom. Incog-fuckin'-nito. Nobody will notice a thing."

"I want to be there when you try that. Somehow, I don't think he'll be agreeable to the idea."

"I don't know about you, but when I signed up to put my goddamn ass on the line, this ain't at all what I fuckin' had in mind."

"Nor what I had in mind. 'Course, I was only told of a job, so I guess I didn't really have anything in mind..."

"Oh, gee, I never thought we'd be usin' the information against her. I figured we was gonna make a pretty scrapbook for shits an' giggles. I tell ya, Avalanche, that guy must have a stick up his ass bigger than my left leg, 'cause he is probably the most uptight, assertive, hot-headed asshole I've ever...ever seen. Hands down. No doubt about it. Undeniable."

Avalanche was unable to prevent a laugh from escaping with that comment, but he did his best to cover it up by coughing. Hope that was convincing enough... He thought, knowing full well if it wasn't he'd probably have to fight his way out of there.

"Since we are going to have to trust each other to not back stab one another and for the interest of in depth planning, we should all be open about our abilities and our weaknesses. Any objections?"

"I've learned how to hide in plain sight, plus I do have a little bit of ability with magic." Avalanche started, still not entirely sure he trusted all of these people enough to let them know what he truly was. "Not much, mind you, but enough to keep me out of trouble. I propose that I begin staking out the NEONet facility after the meeting, to learn patrol routes, shift changes, and anything else I can by observation without getting into the building. Also, while a meeting tomorrow would allow some information to be passed, we should also have another in 3 days or so, so we can be sure of all the patterns that the facility goes by."

My character is low-tech like a boss, so he wouldn't have any fancy shmancy electronics. They'd be too likely to break out in the weather.

Also, I REALLY need to figure out a way to check this at work... Always seems to be a metric shitload of posts when I get home.

...AI? Roberts was presumably referring to the Astrally-dead detective but... AI? Nik remembered Deus and Megaera, and their parts in the Second Crash. That didn't mark AIs as bad, but the idea of one being in the room beggared belief.
Regardless, the detective (who surely couldn't be) directed a question his way.

"I know the buildings inside and out so that is why I was brought along. How about you officer?"

Nik grimaced.
"Not an officer. I grew up here and worked beats all over, I know those streets. I was trained as a sniper, so there's that. An' I've got some mojo backing me up, though I wouldn't rely on it. Reckon I could help counter-spell some of their security though."

"As for the team thing, I think five of us would be sufficient to get into the Archives, hack into them, and get out, with or without the alarm sounding. I may be wrong, but the team should probably consist of Me,Venaticus, Edge, Roberts, and either Jamal, or you, probably you."He indicated Chromad." Jeez could that Elf talk.

"No. For one thing, no support. You guys get pinned down on the outside, you'll need some kinda help. For two, you've only planned for once we're in Kilmer. You saw the brief, security isn't shabby around the grounds. All the stealth in the world don't mean shit with magical defences. At the very least, bring Jamal. You'll need a proper mage for dis-spelling."

Nik reckoned that was all that needed saying. If they needed anything more from him, they'd ask.

Clay was leaning back in his chair, grinning at the fact he got Avalanche to burst out with a fit of laughter, albeit a very brief fit. All seemed just fine until Clay was suddenly pegged in the shoulder by an ash tray and almost sent him onto the floor. Wincing a bit, he rubbed the point of impact and muttered to himself, "Tough fuckin' crowd tonight, ain't it?"

"There, do I have you attention now, asshole? Good, now maybe, just maybe, you'd like to contribute to the job so we don't all get shot to hell and back? Don't even reach for those guns, Two-Thumbs. I can jump over this table, break your arm and pin you to the ground with it before you have a chance to clear the holster. Much as you think you're being quiet, leaning over and seeing your mouth flop around gives a better indication of what you're doing. So lay off the booze and either get the fuck out of here, or actually do the job. And the whole idea behind getting information off the streets is most corps don't have everything on their employees, if we can nab her on her way to a club or something, that makes this whole thing alot easier."

"Well, since you asked so fuckin' nicely," Clay started, sitting upright in his chair, "yeah, I do got somethin' to contribute. I don't think goin' by information off the streets is the best idea. The last thing we need are people figurin' out that we're looking for information on this broad, or the facilities neither. We need to conduct our own investigation 'cause, I don't know about you, but I don't much like the idea of goin' by the word of a guy who heard it from another guy who heard it from somebody's cousin, if you catch what I'm tryna say here. Then again, you seem like the type who's fully prepared to be trustin' the word of people you've just met."

Clay knew that sarcastic comment at the end wouldn't earn him any gold stars for making a new friend, but from what he saw of the man's behaviour, everyone but himself was on his Shit List.

Edge sat down on a couch in the back room, his arms and legs spread wide, he was glad to be sitting down properly, those damn bar stools weren't exactly ergonomic. He popped his gum back into his mouth before adding a stick of some more to add some flavour, it became harder to chew at first but eventually his jaw was moving away, masticating to his hearts content. He lounged back slightly, listening to the rest of the group begin talking about their skill sets, along with how they were going to approach each target. Edge didn't really care about planning or finesse, he just wanted to get the job done as quickly and as smoothly as possible.
He wasn't used to working in groups. Even back in his Cutter days he was a lone wolf, he never made any friends, not that anyone in those days could ever be counted as a friend anyway or trusted as such. Listening to the group squabble did his head in. They needed better, what was that word? 'Group Dynamics' Yeah, that was what they needed alright. All he really wanted was some stronger booze and a place to lie his head. He thought about investing in a audio mods, so he could just block out the world with music, just like he'd right to do right now, but then again Edge thought, perhaps that would only make matters worse, you need to listen some times, to know how to use people to your advantage.

As he watched the Johnson leave, Edge was disappointed that his daughter didn't stop to give him a second look. He had heard before from her that it was too dangerous of course, but he still thought she would give him some kind of secret sign, maybe slip a note into his pocket or something, hell if he knew what romance was, but it seemed to be dead. Meh, she was probably not into him anyway, using that whole "my father would not approve" shtick as an excuse. Edge wondered why he was getting so hung up about the girl, he knew there are plenty more fish in the sea. But none like her. Hell, it was just something about her, he couldn't help but dig asians, along with elves.

As he blew another bubble with his gum, he heard an offer from a fellow member.

"I'll take part in the hit on the target, but I'm willing to outfit and customize anybody's weapons. Anyone have something they need upgraded or fixed?"

"Unless you want to sharpen my knives, I doubt there's that much you can do for me mate..."

He relaxed back into his chair, mulling over all the conversations that were being had, wondering where he would fit best.

" ...and you, Edge. Your flailing isn't that great, but it'll get the job done on most chromes, provided they don't have that new reflex system they came out with last month."

'It'll get the job done'? I'll show that arrogant ass just what my 'flailing' is worth.

"Reflex mods are bullshit, they're only as good as the punks that use them. A real pro doesn't need augs to get the job done well, I can outmatch any ***** chrome on NeoNets payroll. "

Edge watched as a small altercation broke out between Wulf, (damn he's an angry one), and the drunken cowboy that people called Clay. He thought about stepping in, but that would only make things worse. It wasn't his business and he'd gain nothing from doing so, better to let the guys sort it between themselves.
Plus, he wanted to say what furrball would do.

"Don't even reach for those guns, Two-Thumbs. I can jump over this table, break your arm and pin you to the ground with it before you have a chance to clear the holster. Much as you think you're being quiet, leaning over and seeing your mouth flop around gives a better indication of what you're doing. So lay off the booze and either get the fuck out of here, or actually do the job."

Not only can he walk-the-walk, but he can talk-the-talk too. This guy's impressive... would've done well with the Cutters, shame he was with those Ancient scum, but maybe by using him...

"As for the team thing, I think five of us would be sufficient to get into the Archives, hack into them, and get out, with or without the alarm sounding. I may be wrong, but the team should probably consist of Me, Venaticus, Edge, Roberts, and either Jamal, or you Chromad"

"I'm game for whatever you guys want to throw me into, just point me in a direction and I'll cut a bloody path to the objective, or, as the Russkies say, I can be as light as a feather. Just letting you know that I emphasise the "Runner" part of the job; I'm a traceur, if that means anything to the lot of ya'"

"You saw the brief, security isn't shabby around the grounds.

"That sounds right up my street. Places like that don't account for the simple ways of getting in"

"Just letting you know that I emphasise the "Runner" part of the job; I'm a traceur, if that means anything to the lot of ya'" The young upstart, and former gang member Edge remarked, obviously stating his abilities further. That particular term was familiar was Sebastian, as he learnt the same techniques as well when he was training to be an assassin.

"So, your a practitioner of parkour then? I must say, I'm impressed, the speed, acrobatics and skill it takes to master that style of movement, is certainly a sight to behold. You know, I've learnt parkour as well, certainly is a handy skill to have, especially when you need to make a quick escape. Instead of sticking to the conventional paths, anything that is within your grasp, can be traversed. I think we may just along Edge." Sebastian said, complementing Edge's choice of movement, whilst giving a brief description of what it meant to those who did not understand its meaning.

Jamal nodded in agreement as he rubbed his jaw.

"Nik is right. Each group is going to need a mage to counter the magical defenses we will encounter. Turning up traps, especially magical is what I do. It doesn't matter which group I am in to me, though Nik since your the only other mage here, the other group would have to take you."

"That sounds right up my street. Places like that don't account for the simple ways of getting in"

"Doesn't matter how simple your way of getting in is, you trigger a magical barrier that you can't see, smell, taste, hear, or feel and your screwed."

I can deal with Wulf figuring out Venaticus is an AI and possibly Chromad having a guess at it, but nobody knows his project name at the moment. I gave the name Rodrigo to be used as a cover to deal with that.

we probably need to get all of this done the same night, within at least an hour of each other. Am I right?" He asked Venaticus.

Venaticus took a look at Wulf, he was a tiny bit surprised the guy could plan after all, but things stopped surprising him after he discovered how horrific magic could get. "I would say it would be the best if that were to occur. That said, this will not have been the first time Kilmer was raided like this so I don't think NeoNET will do more than the average scramble the guards routine. Still, I would prefer we got them done one after another."

"As for the team thing, I think five of us would be sufficient to get into the Archives, hack into them, and get out, with or without the alarm sounding. I may be wrong, but the team should probably consist of Me, RODRIGO, Edge, Roberts, and either Jamal, or you Chromad"

"I would be more useful when it comes to getting in to the building at NeoNET's HQ. I can give you guys all the information I would be giving had I come in the first place, but you would have to find another hacker. Chromad, I assume since you are about as modified as any human can get, you could hack in to that? While I am on the topic, we know Jamal can get past a magical barrier, but we need at least two who can get that accomplished."

Oh, shit. I'm sorry, I just wrote up the names I remembered and I couldn't remember yours so I put Ven. I'd edit it, but you've already taken the liberty in your post and it's already on another page. Accident there. And Chromad's an ork. not human

"Doesn't matter how simple your way of getting in is, you trigger a magical barrier that you can't see, smell, taste, hear, or feel and your screwed."

"Then it's settled, someone who can hack, me, Edge, Jamal or Lone Star, and since you insist on it, someone covering our asses while we get in and get out."

Looking at his display, he saw that it was getting closer and closer to five, the Halloweeners would be starting to go down soon and he could cut through their turf pretty quickly if he left in the next hour during the dead zone. The next thing would be calling up his brother and getting him to bring his little girlfriend along so he could ask her some questions, maybe find and ask Marshton this evening about some of the defenses he could expect from Renraku's estimates about NeoNET. The sun was a ***** to deal with.

"Anyone know anything else? Because I think we've covered all the bases we can here. Anything further can't be set in plascrete yet since we don't know exact numbers."

"And I'll just stay at home and watch re-runs I guess"

Roberts had no clue why he'd been hired, Mr. Johnson seemed to know everyone skill set pretty well but he couldn't see where his fit in. Granted he could probably get into the facility in time but there were people much more qualified for that half of the job, even if he did get in what could he do? Frankly he had only stuck around this long because of the money, and he didn't even need that really.

Seriously I have no clue what my character can do which you guys dont already have covered

@Gabanuka
you would be pretty useful for either mission in terms of infiltration with ur camoflage abilities. you could easily pass for a guard, or someone else close to the target to lure her.

Debates with this group always turned into arguments and dick measuring contests. Marlowe sighed. Infiltration, hacking, assassination, that wasn't his thing. What could he do? Charlie knew that if he went with either of the groups, when it came to a firefight, his rusted Beretta Model 101-T and his lack of expertise would just slow everybody down. The only place he saw he could fill was support.

"And I'll just stay at home and watch re-runs I guess"

Marlowe smirked. "I'll join you. There seems to be no place for a talkative person like me, with contacts everywhere. Everyone here justs wants to bust either joint and get paid."

He then turned to Nolan. Charlie could forgive him for being distracted, but this was pretty annoying.

"My gun seriously needs a tune up." Marlowe glared. "And I don't want to die because somebody ignored my request for one."

Any ideas for my character's role in this operation?

"You alright?" Avalanche asked Clay after Wulf threw the ashtray at him. "He looked like he got ya pretty good." He was beginning to consider just walking out of the bar. Nothing was really getting done, and his plan for gathering info had been entirely ignored. The only thing that had really been solved was that there would be a 5 man team going for the archives.

Thinking on it a bit more, he decided he'd offer one more idea, just in case somebody gave a shit. "For the rest of us, I'd say we meet up in a few days, to give me time to figure out shift changes, patrol routes, and what time Dr. Shelly arrives and leaves, if she does at all." He looked over at Roberts before continuing. "I don't suppose you'd be interested in staking out the joint as well? Two people who can blend in is better than one."

Avalanche then turned to Clay. "I have something that you could help me with as well, if you're willing. Meet me out front after we're done here and I'll explain it to you."

"For the rest of us, I'd say we meet up in a few days, to give me time to figure out shift changes, patrol routes, and what time Dr. Shelly arrives and leaves, if she does at all." Avalanche noted, seemingly annoyed that his first idea, was largely ignored by the larger group.

"You make a good point Avalanche, for those who aren't taking on the archive mission, it'll give us a good opportunity to plan our movements, to figure out when would be the best time to infiltrate the compound where Dr. Shelley works. Thank you for the contribution Avalanche." It was then that the person in the orange space suit asked, seemingly out of nowhere, drawing attention to itself, after some brief interference from its A.I., Mr. Suit.

"Yes just tell me what you need from me."

"Hmm. Nova, would your unique abilities, allow you to drain power from a building? Cause I was thinking that, if its possible, it could shut down the data archives systems, rendering them inoperable once the team has obtained the data, for the foreseeable future."

"On an unrelated note, I happen to have an old friend, a contact as it were, who specializes in obtaining high end weapons and equipment, quietly of course. Figured we may need some heavier fire-power for both these missions, in case things get... troublesome. The man is a weapon specialist, been on the job, I reckon about thirty years, so he knows what he is doing, could supply us with a weapons cache. Besides, he owes me a few favours, and its about time he paid up."

"Also, there are a couple of people I know who work for NovaTech from about three years back. They harbour some form of resentment towards the company, after some incident which I won't bore you with the details about. With a little subtle convincing, I may be able to get them, to provide us with some kind of security access, they've always wanted a little payback for what happened. What are everyone's thoughts about both then?" He asked to the entire group.

"For the rest of us, I'd say we meet up in a few days"
Nik frowned.
"We ain't got long for this. I'd say two days at most. As I said, I know a place to meet if nobody objects."
Which to be honest, he was expecting at least one person to do. He hadn't exactly hidden it, and most people here seemed to have pick up on his ex-cop status. Didn't lead to a lot of trust, usually.

"On an unrelated note..." Nik waited for the assassin to finish before nodding in agreement.
"Look, anything we can bring to the table, we bring. Nobody here's dumb enough to turn help down, elseways we wouldn't have been picked for this."

"You alright? He looked like he got ya pretty good."

"Eh, I'm alright chump just caught me off-guard," said Clay, keeping his voice low. "************ acts like his balls are made of brass, but bad one move directed at me, and he'd be a bleedin' block o' Swiss faster'n he can even realize he's dead."

"For the rest of us, I'd say we meet up in a few days, to give me time to figure out shift changes, patrol routes, and what time Dr. Shelly arrives and leaves, if she does at all."

"That's usin' the ol' noodle," Clay said before taking a sip of his scotch. "Just as I was sayin', we need to gather our own intel."

"I have something that you could help me with as well, if you're willing. Meet me out front after we're done here and I'll explain it to you."

"Alright, pal," said Clay, curious as to what it could be. "I'll see ya out front when this is through."

"We ain't got long for this. I'd say two days at most. As I said, I know a place to meet if nobody objects."

"What I understood, from what Mr. Tanaka requested, is that we got ourself about a week to work at this," said Clay, hoping to convince the group that there was no need to rush. Poor planning and swift action was a bad blend, and he didn't intend on becoming a part of a 'Fuck-Up Smoothie'.

"Look, anything we can bring to the table, we bring. Nobody here's dumb enough to turn help down, elseways we wouldn't have been picked for this."

"I've got some friends in differing positions of power that I can ask for help and info from, but I can't promise anything. Where's this place you were speaking of? I'd put forth one of my own, but most of you wouldn't be welcome in that part of town, if not just shot on general principle."

"Besides, he owes me a few favours, and its about time he paid up."

Wulf looked up at the weapons smuggler, the Ancients had their own little stash of military hardware, cyberware, and even some prototype software, but it was more or less untouchable by himself or anyone else not high on the totem pole. Olloman was the only guy he knew who knew where it was even stashed, but it took a bit of going to get Green to agree to open it up.

"Your guy know how to get his hands on some long-range comms? Encrypted channels, each one bio-protected, that kind of thing? Preferably military-grade? 'Cause that would save us a bit of headache later on if the corp decides to look into this, and I'm reasonably sure they will. The guards take a report down for every time they take a shit, what are they gonna do when they find out some hot-shot scientist of theirs just got blown away after an Archive got smashed?"

"What I understood, from what Mr. Tanaka requested, is that we got ourself about a week to work at this,"

"A week is a very short time frame to work up a hit like this, Two-Thumbs. There's basic planning, gathering info, and then when everything's said and done. we've got a six-hour - maybe - window to pull it all off in.

"That includes getting in without too much hassle, finding the information on this *****, then either leveling the building or frying their systems, and then we've got a substantial amount of the private security of NeoNET to deal with just to get to her. We've gotta hit 'em hard, fast, and be out before the upper-suits know who, what, when, and where everything was taken."

Wulf stood and adjusted his duster, turned off his AR and waited by the door for Nik's responce to his question and anything else anyone decided to throw his way, preferably words, and not bullets.

"What I understood, from what Mr. Tanaka requested, is that we got ourself about a week to work at this,"
"Not what I meant. Two days recon, tops." Nik said. He turned to Wulf as his question was asked.

"Place is called Dragon's Lair. Smuggler bar. They've got a white noise generator and a Private Mode entry requirement, so you won't get snooped on. I can send out the address."

Presuming that's okay?
