Hey guys, I suddenly got the inkling to listen to Sonic the Hedgehog music from his glory days.

There is no denying that the soundtrack from Sonic the Hedgehog were always pretty good.

My personal favorite coming from Sonic R ( yeah I know, shoot me, but that's my type of music.)

I'm also in need of some assistance.
Aside from Sonic CD, and Sonic R, I don't really know about the other Sonic tracks.

Worst yet, during an artists Livestream I was watching, there was one particular song that really caught my fancy. It sounded like it came from Sonic 3D blast, but the playlists on Youtube didn't sound anything like it.

I could go and find it myself, but due to the fact that I don't even have a clue about what state it is, yet alone game, that would take a very long time. I mean, even Sonic's more obscure games have a stellar track so it's not like I only have to sift through the popular ones.

So perhaps one of the songs you guys link me in this thread might just be the one!

Either way is fine. You can't really go wrong with Sonic music.

EDIT: Haha I found the soundtrack! Turns out I really was looking at the wrong console version the entire time. Thanks you guys for telling me about the console differences. I never knew that.

Also, if the track you're looking for is really from 3D Blast, I believe there are differences in the soundtrack between the Genesis and Saturn versions. You might wanna look into that.

Gah I fucking love old Sonic remixes!

I was a Sega kid growing up, the first Sonic being my first video game ever.

Nothing holds nostalgia over me quite like old Sonic.

I'm a big fan of these (strictly speaking, these links aren't the actual 16-bit version of the songs, but 'cleaner' versions of them):

Flying Battery Zone [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP5cMfa41uM&feature=plcp]
Aquatic Zone [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuwEEmAF4uY&feature=plcp]
Super Sonic theme [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CilaUjZbj1Y]
Sonic 3 special stage [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYeYmtMDYpk]

By the way, I wouldn't abandon my hopes for the 3D blast soundtrack containing your song. Don't forget, there's two distinct soundtracks that exist for it. One for the sega genesis, and another for the sega saturn.

These are great!

There are differences in soundtracks for the Genesis and Saturn versions? huh. I had no clue about that.

When I got Sonic 3D blast it was an official PC port so I'm not sure which version I got.

Now that you said that though I'll be sure to keep that in mind when attempting to look for the track I want.

Yeah, that's what the a user higher up in this thread told me.

I had no clue about that feature. I was like...what...5? When I got my Sonic games, so I never knew there was even a console version, and I played them on the PC inside some sort of SEGA mega pack. Sonic 3D blast was one of them. Not sure which one was which though.

I guess I need to type that in on Youtube to get both track sets. Just typing in Sonic 3D blast on Youtube gives you either a mix of both or the most popular ones. I wouldn't know since I was only exposed to one version of the game on PC.

I'm really digging all these links guys.

I've never favorited so many videos on Youtube in a single time frame.

Oh, gosh. I want to hear these types of songs again in the newer Sonic games (not that the new soundtracks are bad or anything.)

I'm really glad SEGA felt the same way. Cash Cash band really knows how to re capture the essence of Sonic 16 bit era into the remixes.

Sonic Generations was a gift from the heavens.

Well, the stand-alone pc version of 3D Blast is a an almost straight port from the Saturn version and has the same soundtrack.

However, the game you play apparently came from a compilation, which is probably Sonic Mega Collection Plus, since that is the only one with with 3D Blast, and all of the games in it are Genesis versions.

Did it mainly have Sonic games or a bunch of other games with a few Sonic titles? It'll help me narrow things down.

I actually ended up finding the soundtrack thanks to your heads up!

On that note, if I remember correctly Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic 3D blast.

It also had a bunch of other SEGA games like Flicky, some racing game, another game where your a barbarian that transforms into different animal forms, and a couple others I can't remember. I think my dad back then got me a double pack so I had the 1st and 2nd Mega Collection.

You basically nailed it though. That's exactly what I had (and I think still have)

Hmm...is it indicative of dislike or unawareness that no one has yet linked the industrial-technofunk of the Sonic Spinball soundtrack?

Personal favorite: <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcYTD9Uhato>Lava Powerhouse.
Runners-up: <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkWUJfIotfU>Toxic Caves
<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW-aaSXPBYA>Boss Music

Someone already beat me to Flying Battery Zone Act 1 (gods, do I love that one), but since it doesn't look like anyone but the OP has linked to 3D Blast, here's my favorites:

<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfG09iLCKsM>Rusty Ruin Act 1 and <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le9dTWyXc1E>Act 2
<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf7-ixllcgo>Diamond Dust Act 1 and <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1rmXIjqNzY>Act 2 (reminds me so much of Ristar's music, this)

I've never actually heard the Saturn versions before now, but I think I still prefer the Genesis/Megadrive editions.

I ended up listening to both tracks in search of the one I wanted. I think the Saturn one had more better tracks. Granted they both had some real gems in there.

Japanese pop band Dreams Come True has amongst its long-time members one Masato Nakamura, aka the composer for the Genesis Sonic 1 and 2 soundtracks. Apparently he later reused the Sonic 2 ending theme to make this song.

I was playing the old games
Running fast and feeling great
Swift and sudden fall from grace
Sonic's days are so far away
Now Sega's belittling me
Sonic Team won't let him be
On and on and on he came
Wish Sega would just let him

How does it play (How does it play)
How does it play
How does it play
When it's broken
And it's shit inside

PS: Just some quick joke lyrics. I'm not that guy who thinks only the classic games are worth anything.

For those that didn't know, Michael Jackson composed some music for Sonic 3, but was not credited, unlike his then collaborators Brad Buxxer and Cirocco Jones (as Scirocco). Why? Former STI director Roger Hector stated Sega sacked him because of the scandals at the time, but Buxxer claims MJ left himself because he was not satisfied with the Genesis's sound quality. Which tracks Jackson composed aren't really known, but Carnival Night Zone and the ending theme are usually picked out.

Yeah, I heard about MJ doing some tracks. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he actually did way more than that. To be honest there are some tracks that really have an MJ beat to them.

It's a real shame that MJ died so suddenly, and SEGA is still really tight lipped about the whole thing.

I guess some gaming mysteries must stay mysteries.

You may be interested in a recent episode of Pop Fiction on Gametrailers.com that delved into Micheal Jackson's involvement with Sonic 3 if you haven't already seen it. I forget what they found out in the end but it shed some new light on the subject.
