I find their music to be unpleasant, and there are several very annoying people I know who are fans. This is why I dislike Linkin Park.

I liked their first 2 albums, but their new ones just went off the deep end and died a horrible pop filled death.

Probalby cause they're the nickelback of their genre (meaning they're averagely generic on an almost painful level). They've had their good songs and their bad, but really they're just average.

This is a topic I really sympathize with.

In 2001 I was 13 years old and got to know a band called Linkin Park. I really liked them and bought the album. I became a huge fan. And, like you (WolfmanNougat) I was never an emo kid. But I loved the music and could feel the lyrics as well. Who hasn't gone through shit in his childhood/life? Okay I came from a broken home, but whatever, I wasn't cutting my wrists or anything. I was a normal kid. I grew up a little and "Meteora" came out. And fuck yeah! Okay, it was different from "Hybrid Theory", but it was still damn, damn, damn good.

After that however, I started losing interest. It took a long time until the released new material and the new album was... well... shit. I did like "What I've done", no matter its movie connections, but the rest... well, I though it was shit. And the latest album. I swear to god, I gave it an honest chance, but it's the biggest piece of crap they've ever made. There is no song even near the level of "Meteora" and "Hybrid Theory".

I still often listen to the first two albums, but I just don't like the new stuff. I'm going to see them live for the first time this summer, something I've been waiting for for 10 years now. Here's to hoping they play a lot of oldies....

i prefer their older stuff, i think i only like 2-3 songs from their last two albums (What I've Done and The Catalyst), i think i just prefer there older style compared to the new direction they took with minutes to midnight.

This video aptly demonstrates why Linkin Park sucks.

They basically make the same song, every damn time.
I love LP but I still find this video hilarious. They aren't my favorite band ever but they're good, I do enjoy them. They're a good rage band when you're stressed and wanna punch something. :D

Hybrid Theory was a decent enough album, but then it started to get bad...

Hybrid Theory is good, I also quite like Minutes to Midnight yet thats the one most "fans" seem to hate. Meteora is "okay" in my opinion. And to be honest A Thousand Suns has really grown on me lately as of late. Them's the only 4 albums I've listened to mind.

Well they did it quite well in their first 2 albums.

But listening to some of the songs on Meteora, I'm not sure if that was just bad luck in songwriting or if they were running out of original compositions. Listen to Hybrid Theory, and I don't think you can deny that it was a good album. My impression was always that they sounded like they were having a harder time making up good content for Meteora, not that they didn't have it (I love Don't Stay, Breaking The Habit, and Numb.)

But then we get to their new stuff, and I think all deals are off. Minutes to Midnight was something entirely different from what they did before, and A Thousand Suns is still pretty different from Minutes. I think then, because their audience and genre is definitely up in the air (cue old LP fans crying where the Nu Metal went,) you could debate whether they warranted such attention for that, but I still don't think you could argue that it's bad music for whatever it's trying to be. And all their new stuff definitely shifts far away from their old "angsty emo kid kind of audience"; at least half of the songs on A Thousand Suns were pure philosophy.

I've found that most of the hate on Linkin Park that I've seen is because of how much they've changed as a band, but perhaps all that whine's from the angsty emo kid demographic that I should now hate.

I preferred them when they followed the industrial style/formula. Once they got to minutes to midnight it sounded like they went wimpy pop.

My music taste mostly consists of 1980's industrial like Skinny Puppy and Nine Inch Nails, so the rhythm mix styles they did were slightly appealing for early albums.

As a pretty staunch metalhead (post metal, blackened post metal, death, other stupid subgenre names) I think they're pretty terrible. But I'm also not someone to dismiss a band just on principal. I maintain their second album, the one with technoish remixes is fairly solid.

I'm always willing to give credit where credit is due. For instance, Staind is terrrrrrible. But that dude IS a pretty great singer.

I like Hybrid Theory and Meteora, both are damn fine albums. Papercut is still one of my favorite songs of all time. From Minutes to Midnight though... What a disaster. Give It Up is barely tolerable, the rest is a crap.

They used to be good but they went downhill when Minutes to Midnights came out. Sure after a while song of those songs became likeable. On a sidenote too many Naruto-Linkin Park AMV's exist

I used to really like them. They were really the only band of their type I'd listen too, and despite their songs feeling somewhat formula, emo and depressing, I enjoyed it.

Hybrid Theory was great, Meteora was solid... Minutes to Midnight is where I started to drag my heels. I plucked a few songs from the album I enjoyed and left the rest. Then A Thousand Suns was released and I found nothing of value to me on the CD.

So yeah, I know they've said they're trying to "mature" their style, but I just find it boring and all together bland now. It's just not (for a lack of a better term) the same to me.

I don't really make a habit of listening to them anymore, but if one of the older songs comes on I can certainly enjoy it.
