At home I use Ubuntu on a laptop and FreeNAS (A FreeBSD based server solution, so it's technically Unix, but based of it) on my server. At work we use Red Hat on some of the servers, and we're migrating more and more over to that OS from VMS.

As for MINT, you may want to try Debian Edition (LMDE aka MINTIAN). It's very interesting distribution. :)
Rolling distribution? Faster and more responsive? Sounds nice. Downloading....

The slight instability and reduced user friendliness is a bit of a worry. On the other hand I do feel superbly technical if I fix a novel linux problem. Last time that happened was when I figured out why my vpn wouldn't connect by monitoring systems logs using the terminal.

Never heard of autoplus, I usually relied on these guides [http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f16.html]. My problem with linux is that I know just enough to get me into serious trouble, but not enough to get me out of it without doing a complete reinstall. This one time it got so bad I made a script that would install all my favorite software cause I got tired of doing it by hand.

That's why backups and extra partitions are my friend. Far more easy to recover from a broken os.

They say it because most MINT users are used to do everything by simply clicking some fancy icon and don't exactly know what this "instability" thing really is. ;)

Mintian isn't broken or something. It need a little more love and care - that's all. :D

I'm currently using fedora 13 on my laptop, mainly because it uses the new gnome 3 layout which I think looks really nice, even though I do miss my desktop cube and wobbly windows :(. Everything working fine on it except for a bug that sometimes casues the wireless to go a bit haywire which I haven't been able to properly fix yet. I haven't got linux distro on my desktop at the moment as the latest Ubuntu did not seem to play

I used to run Arch linux as I like how learning how config files and compiling packages worked in linux, but as it is more advanced distro I found myself getting a little tired of doing stuff the hard way and when back to the easier distros.
