It's really ironic to me that fable is actually a rather progressive game series, was there any other game you could participate in gay marriage back before Fable 1? Maybe the Sims?
It wasn't exactly intentional progression. The progremmers were just too lazy to program different AI's for males and females in the game.
You could argue them not thinking it an issue is even MORE progressive.

Anyway in Fable 1 you could only ever be the one character, a man. There was no character creator. Yet you could marry men. If they wanted men to be unmarryable they just would have made them non romancable, like half the villagers of either sex were anyways.

But can we just agree on something? That these articles are completely unprofessional. Both of them.
The GamerGate megathread is that-a-way. ------>
But I read the Wikipedia article, and it stated that Gamergate is about harassing women and minorities.

So why would you tell people to move a subject regarding unprofessional journalism to the Gamergate thread?

That's just it... to do so would mean they'd have to take the time to program a different set of responses. Also another theory is that they had likely intended you to have a choice of male and female maion chartacters buut it was one of the things that got shelved for later games.

Either way it's hard to tell if it was done out of laziness or progression. My insight into human nature tells me, laziness likely has more influence than we'd like to acknowledge

I think the most appropriate response to these type of people would be if everyone would just go "lol, no" and dont even engage with them. They need to be told they are acting so stupid people arent even going to bother to explain it. its self-obviuos.

As far as your own feelings go. Yes, a lot of them are like banging your head against brick wall. they dont accept logic if it does not fit their narative and consider their own feelings more important than basic human rights. They are also a massive hypocrites when someone does the exact same thing to them. And one cant just fight with it all the time. Good thing they are a tiny minority though and thus we can take shifts in telling them they are wrong so you can go and take a weekend off to play a game you like. the world will still be there afterwards.

No, seriuosly, just go play a game you love and forget about it for a while.

If we're going to have a discussion every time a gaming site is unprofessional in their reporting, I'll be eagerly anticipating many more threads about Kotaku's shameless clickbaiting in the near future.
Kotaku is considered "not an acceptable source" in most of places nowadays. Not being professional is their status quo.

Yeah, it just looks like a silly joke that fell flat with a lot of people. I'd just shrug and move on. You're only one man, Ert, so you can't take all of this sort of stuff on your shoulders. No person can. We have to know when to walk away. We can always come back; we have all the time we need in life.

I had a feeling that this would explode into something much bigger then it deserves to be, and here we are. Honestly, with all of the fucking idiotic drama that goes on on the internet I just can't help but to laugh. I cared before, but Jesus Christ out of all the things to get upset over, people get upset over this?

It was a dumb, tasteless joke about a dumb, tasteless holiday. That being said, the joke shouldn't of been apologized for just because it was tasteless or offensive (one joke isn't the end of the world). This whole situation is just dumb.

Can I be honest with you? For just a second?

This mess is tearing me down. Bit by bit. I just can't freaking take it for much longer. I care about stuff like this, but it's slowly becoming more than I can handle. I honestly think this discussion going on for years drastically lowered by opinion of the human race and turned me into a misanthrope...but it's the only online gaming community I really know. And I like being part of a community. Christ, I feel like I'm in a damn abusive relationship. I hate every second of it...but I just can't leave.

Do you know of any other online communities? Ones that avoid this crap?
Dear God, do I know that feeling. Couple of years ago I went deep into politics (not gaming politics actual politics), and eventually found myself so fed up with how shitty things and how idiotic people with power act. I ended up just giving up and cutting cold turkey, and was a lot happier once I did. I'm not saying to leave gaming/gaming communites all together though (that'd be really silly); do what I do to keep sane: find a group of friends to game with and play some games with them, people who don't discuss gaming politics very often. It'll remind you why you play and how friendly gaming communities can be. When it comes to the Escapist though, either learn to ignore the dumb gaming drama threads and focus on the fun threads or yeah, you may just have to learn for your own sanity's sake. Again, this is what I do, and it's been working for me ever since I started going on this site 7 years ago.
