Look, I don't know Lisa Foiles. I bet if I ever met her in person I'd probably think she was pretty cool. But why does she have a show? I mean, a top 5 where she lists random things? What exactly is she adding to that genre that no one else is? Her show isn't particularly funny, she doesn't have like a clever twist on the format, it's just a list of 5 things she likes or dislikes! What exactly is she adding to the internet that cracked.com isn't adding literally ever day?

Well that's an easy answer: Enough people like her and watch her show that it makes the site profit.

I find her lists interesting (the reason that other top 5 was shot down by the Escapist public was how unoriginal the lists were) and I find her funny. She's also a great speaker and seems to actually enjoy doing her videos.

I think that "No Right Answer" is a dumb show but here's a pro-tip: I don't have to watch it. The same here; if you don't like Top 5, you are allowed to not watch it. Contrary to popular belief, Kross will not hunt you down for sport (well...he won't do it for THAT reason at least).

EDIT (Posted at 8:31am CST on June 1st): Alright, I've been ignoring the obvious for a while but I feel I need to speak up now with all this "You only like her cause she's hot!" bullshit in this thread...

#1. I'm not a walking penis. If my entire reason for wanting to watch something is because she's hot, there are far more shows online that are glorified soft-porn or I can just "Porn" into Google. Yes Lisa is attractive but to state that I'm watching it BECAUSE of that is insulting to her, insulting to me, and one of the dumbest things I have heard.

#2. Smosh Failed Part I
Smosh failed because their lists were generic (top five FPS! I'm on the edge of my seat for this one!). You can argue that Top 5's in general are played out but Lisa picks interesting topics that you just don't see anywhere else.

#3. Smosh Failed Part II
The guys were not great speakers. They paused and they stuttered constantly while they spoke. Lisa speaks clearly with none of the usual mistakes someone who is not used to public speaking makes.

To use Smosh as an example that Lisa would fail if she was a dude is abso-fucking-ludacris. Smosh failed because their Top 5 was terrible and Lisa succeeds because her Top 5 is good.

She has a cute, bubbly persona going on. Her Top 5s may not be terribly inventive but she's fun to listen to, and I get the feeling she puts all of her spirit in those videos. Doesn't hurt she's easy on the eyes as well. Let's treasure our sexy geeks, please.

Her audience is probably comprised of 3 different groups.

Group 1 is the group that finds her hot and wants to bang her. They don't really care what she has to say, they just like to stare at the screen and think "man, I wish I had a girlfriend that played video games."

Group 2 are people who watch pretty much everything on the Escapist and genuinely enjoy the show.

Group 3 are people who don't follow anyone on youtube or any other site, and therefore think the top 5 list thing is clever and unique because they don't follow other people who do them constantly.

Unfortunately, from all the comments and FB comments I see after her shows, I believe Group 1 is the majority. Everyone seems to want to agree with her simply because of her looks. Really, look at the comment sometimes, it's like watching teenage boys trying to chat up that one hot girl in a class all. Sad, really.

For me, I don't really find much entertainment in the show. However, I'll watch it if there's an interesting subject, but generally her lists disappoint me, so I don't watch it much. Not saying it's a bad show, but not my cup of tea, and especially considering how annoying Group 1 is, I would prefer something else to spend my time.

Lisa is funny, attractive and her lists are always interesting and fresh. Would you prefer an unfunny show with ugly people who are boring?

That's pretty much it.

Just because the OP doesn't enjoy it doesn't mean other people don't.

There's a lot of stuff I don't enjoy, but I don't go into their areas and complain about that stuff because I have the choice to... you know... NOT subject myself to something I don't like?

I don't fit into either of those groups. System broken.

OT: OK, so the idea of her show isn't very innovative, but people like top x lists. It leaves a whole lot of room for discussing and exchanging opinions and also getting new recommendations. It does help the show's popularity that she's attractive, but in my case I couldn't really care less. I am never going to meet her, but I enjoy the show when there are lists I actually care about. The Star Wars one couldn't have interested me less and I didn't bother to watch past the first item on the list.

In short, people like her show. Thus she still has a show. It's not complicated, unpopular shows disappear.

So what if Lisa's style is a little coquettish? She never comes across as bored or smug, she uses self-deprecating humor, and she's always clearly enjoying herself. She brings cheeriness and energy to every video. A Top 5 isn't a solemn dissertation meant to end once and for all every other Top 5! They're supposed to be silly and playful, and she finds silly and playful subjects to talk about, without passing rash judgment or inciting outrage. Must we be so cynical to reduce all of that dedication to a tank top and a pretty face? The lady's sexy and she flaunts it tastefully, like all of your favorite movie actresses. You don't like the comments, don't scroll down; you don't like the videos, don't click on them. Why do people like her stuff, you ask? For the same reason you don't: opinion. Cheer up!

These kinds of threads are far too common, they boil down to "I don't like something, or think it's funny etc, so it sucks. Why do people like it, stop liking what I don't like."

I'm not saying you're being mean about it, if you don't like it, don't watch it. If you think it's boring/stupid/lame fair enough, but why bother asking why something exists. There's two reasons a show exists, one person makes it and another lot of people watch it, it's simple really.

Pretty woman does something -> male viewers are convinced that it's only due to her looks and she is not offering anything else.

If she was male, and got the same comments, none of you would be making these comments.

I don't think it's original, I don't think it's unique among Top 5's, but I think it's somewhat funny. She has her moments. Besides, better than Smosh, and you don't have to watch it either way.

What I don't get is what happened to Reel Physics. I didn't see anyone lamenting it's existence, and frequently people would comment with clarifications or requests. I enjoyed it.

Some of her viewership probably is somewhat because she's a woman. She's actually pandered to this in the past, to deny it's a real thing is a bit naive. But we're not only assessing content. If that was the case, gender would be irrelevant.

What you said is exactly the reason why I don't watch 'Top 5 With Lisa Foiles' but she's clearly having fun, and she's not harming anybody, so I really don't mind.

I think I'm in Group 4, which is people who do watch a lot of youtube and have seen many top 5s, but find her show funny, and well-made.

I do also watch most stuff on the Escapist, but there's a few things I can't watch.
