Well rock band is what introduced me to The Who and Iron Maiden. Brutal Legend is also where I got an interest in Ozzy and Megadeth due to Mr. Crowley and High Speed Dirt. Though this was all when I was younger and didn't really care much about any music.

The GTA series has introduced me to Thin Lizzy, Rod Stewart (his early stuff), At the Gates, Bathory, Terrorizer, Nazareth and Judas Priest, the 4th Guitar Hero game was my first exposure to Dream Theater, I first heard The Ink Spots in Fallout 3 and Mass Effect has turned me on to the Faunts. I'm sure there are other examples, but that's all that's springing to mind right now.

I already new about most of the bands but "Scarface the world is yours" apart from being a souless sequel to a movie a movei that left no opening to one had some pretty decent music.
Johnny Cash, Iggy Pop and they suited the game quite well.

Found a lot of good songs from JSRF and Need For Speed: Most Wanted.
Not to mention I discovered Nico Vega's "Beast" from the trailers for Bioshock Infinite and The Silent Comedy's "Bartholomew" from the trailers for Dark Souls.
And I don't even play Dark Souls. I just saw the commercial on one day and thought "that is a really cool song."

All of Fallout's soundtrack, Borderlands introduction for me to Cage the Elephant. I'm sure there are tons more, just these off the top of my head.

While I am ashamed to say it I will admit that I had never heard of Manowar until I played Brutal Legend. There are probably others especially from the first few tony hawk games. I can remember them having some amazing sound tracks and they really got me into punk and metal.
