Hello my dear Escapees, your friendly Sister of Battle here.

So, I know alot of people will assume the opposite, but I'm a fan of lisps, I think they're cute. I know many associate them with immasculinity, I however disagree, but thats the point of this thread. So my good Escapees: Are lisps cute? Does it depend on gender? Age? Race for some inexplicable reason? What do you associate them with mentally?

Also: Does anyone know the origin of the word lisp and why it is so cruel to those who have them?

Edit: Name change, sorry yall

I usually equate them with retainers, though the word 'sigmatism' is more appropriate, if often misunderstood. The word comes from an old English expression that meant 'to stutter'... I think. The cause is largely physiological with no correlation whatsoever (that I'm aware of) to, well, any defining feature of the individual that has the lisp.

Anyway, no I don't have much of an opinion on them, but suffice to say, I'm not drawn to them because I like sibilant diction.

I'm tend to playfully mock my sister for having a very slight lisp, but in reality, I'm not one to talk, because I stutter like a ************ when I get flustered.

And I tend to agree with you, OP. They are kinda cute.

I don't really care for lisps, but I can tolerate them if a friend speaks with one.

But no, I don't know where the word comes from come from. Sorry.

Also, when I saw the title, I thought of creeper hissing. Natural reaction for one who crafturbates as often as I do :p

Please tell me I wasn't the only one who read the title of the thread, and the OP's post with a lisp'y voice?

OT: I think it's a little annoying. But not as bad as stuttering though. Mostly because I myself stutter quite a bit.

It doesn't really matter to me. The insecurity one might have for having a lisp would be a little annoying, but not something that would turn me away from them.

People find it annoying? While I just can't take a lisp guy seriously, a girl that lisps is cute. My last girlfriend had a slight lisp, which together with her freckles, just made me want to hug her and never let go.

I have a lisp and a stutter, and truth be told it rarely effects my everyday life. On the other hand I think it kinda ruins my dream of being a voice acting, since it would severely limit my acting capabilities. also I have trouble pronouncing a lot of things, most notably words like thorn, which just so happens to be the name I use.

I dont mind lisps, ut once you start to hear it more and more, it gets annoying. not that the personw ith it can help it or its there fault, but when you have a speech and someoen witha lisp trips over it all through, it just makes me want to knock their speech straight.

Not to be mean or anything but... yeah, you really shouldn't have.

I can't imagine people with lisps having too much fun with them, what with them being unintentional and all. Do I think they're cute? Well, I'm fairly certain that people with lisps hate it if they're called "cute" for something they can't control. So no, I can't say they're cute.

One of my best friends has a lisp. I find it cute but don't really worry about it. The only time it really made a difference was when she was naming a pet and I suggested a name she said would be a bad idea because she wanted a pet whose name she could pronounce right.
I had a laugh as I hadn't thought of it. (I don't remember what the suggested name was).

I find speech impediments to be incredibly annoying, even though those having them can't do much to help themselves. Lisps, however, I find to be the most annoying. :/

I think they are called speech impediments for a reason - they actively ruin your ability to communicate (to a certain degree) with other people. As such they are a negative feature and in no way cute for any gender/race/age/whatever. They're not immasculine either (I don't see why every feature has to be masculine or feminine nowadays, some things have nothing to do with gender whatsoever), just slightly disrupting (imagine you were watching a movie and getting white noise every couple of seconds - not too big an issue but it still spoils the experience). I don't hold it against them because it is out of their control, but I'd rather avoid talking to them unless I have to.

Well one can have cute eyes, or a cute nose. So yeah, things people can't control can be "cute". My bf has one and I love it. It's part of a person, you can't avoid it, so embrace it is my logic.

And yeah I figured on the title

Yes, lisps are cool.
[sub]mainly because I have a lisp, and I'm awesome[/sub]
[sub][sub]Just kidding, I'm lame...[/sub][/sub]

Also: No, I don't know the origin of the word lisp, but I'm sure Google does!
[sub]Which I'll have to check later[/sub]

Lisps always seem to get on my nerves, though rarely is it enough to really bother me or piss me off. And as some people have mentioned stuttering, I recall taking a tour at a college and one of the professors had a stutter (or I was told she did) I didn't notice it until the end of the tour, she went to say nitrogen and said the ni part about 15 times. On the outside I waited patiently, but on the inside I was dying of laughter and felt like a right bastard.
