I have several memories of loading text based adventure games on to the TI-99-4A computer we had. All that time.....all that noise.....for a text adventure. We wound up heating up a knife and melting notches into the cassette player so we would know where the volume, tone, and balance needed to be set in order for it to load properly. I thought it was totally worth it back then.

Finally I have found it! Perfect representation of those glorious days. When hearing words from computer was a small wonder and we loaded games just to listen to music in loaders.

I remember my father used to buy magazines with games written in them.
Written.

He'd spend whole evenings programming them onto my old spectrum for me.

I don't think I ever thanked him enough for that.

I already cheerfully abandoned the games of my youth in favour of the superior offerings of today.

I'm confident in my ability to continue this process.
No way Zhukov! Old games are way better! Their graphics had soul, and the gameplay was actually fun, not like the CODs and Justin Biebers of today. 90s kids know what I'm talking about!

Sorry...I don't know why I'm posting this. I just felt this irrepressible urge to take the piss out of people who go on about "90s kids". IS THAT A CRIME?

I have only bought 3 games the last couple years. Total War Shogun 2, Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn, and Diablo 3 and the rest of my 175 games linked through Steam are all older games. Including emulator games. Don't see the point of ever needing to buy new games with having this much variety already. If the gaming industry abandons the people who started it, then let it crash and burn while we play older games.

My parents had terrible taste in game companies - Atari. Back then anything seemed great compared to Pong, but the NES was so much better while my parents were nationalists who mostly bought American - so we had a string of Atari systems, starting with the 2600.

A lot of people don't know this since they only played Nintendo, but there were very few good games on the Atari 2600. Yars' Revenge was really fun, and Pitfall. Adventure too. That's about it.

This was the age when Japanese cars were outperforming American cars, and were cheaper even with the import tax. So between that, video games, William Gibson's work, and "I Think I'm Turning Japanese" by the Vapors, it seemed like Japan was taking over the world.

Considering my most prominent years of gaming were the 2000's (though my earliest games was as far back as 94) I guess I'm not in the same position as you geriatrics. Though I do miss the simplicity and innocence(?) of the SNES and Genesis era.

I can still play the games I grew up with for the most part. YAY EMU...

Emus. Yes.

Real Talk: I in no way shape or form endorse Emus.

I have my Amiga 1200 set up right behind this laptop :) Played some Dynablaster last night and tonight might be a spot of Cannon Fodder.

Apparently I am in the same age vicinity, then. I remember getting a TRS-80 16K color computer for Christmas. I remember playing Wizardry on the Apple IIe, I saw the original Star Wars in the theater, when it was originally released. I can remember playing with Micronauts, Star Wars toys (of course), He-Man, Full sized G.I. Joe figures (the ones with the fuzzy beards). I can remember Saturday mornings were kids highlight of the week, because it was ALWAYS cartoons on Saturday mornings. I remember arcades, and when Pac-Man came out, I remember Pong, oh jeeeeeeez.

*** EDIT - I almost forgot!!! Anyone remember Stretch Armstrong, the green stretch monster that was opposite of him, and the Six Million Dollar Man toys? **
