The name Akira rings a silly little bell...but I don't know why. I'll have to Wiki that later.

At any rate, this is good, I suppose. I've lost all faith when it comes to anime/video game movies turned into live action movies. Reason why is because whenever I think of it, two things come to mind: 1. Street Fighter movie and 2. Dragon Ball Evolution.

No one wants to see that happen again.

Now this will leave the door open for a passionate team that might actually do the original film justice. If this had gone ahead we would have ended up with a horrible Americanized monstrosity that could have rivaled the Dragonball movie, which would have doomed Akira to never getting a good live action movie. At least this means there's still a chance

The only worse idea for screening than this version of Akira was "Warhammer 40k school days" anime suggested on some forum out there... :|

It's probably for the best. Although I do believe that it's possible to make a great live action adaptation of Akira, this production didn't look like it was going in a good direction with its ideas.

good, this movie cannot be made. moviebob did of list of things this movie would have to do to even have a chance at being decent. yeah, it wasn't going to do any of those. it was going to stink, back to development hell where it belongs.
