Well, as an aspiring filmmaker and an avid fan of pokemon it just came to me. I'd like to do a live action pokemon movie, but I want to do it right. So, I'm asking fans of pokemon to post ideas/plotlines/and anything else about this.

It would take a long time, and may never get finished, but if anyone's up for I'll take any help.

well... if you are goign to do live action, fans will be mistrustful. So you;re goign to want to follow the story of ash, just to draw them in. I would say start small, go and follow the show in the first season,w hile ash is in kanto. Then, leave it open like he is sailing to jhoto, after he decides to go and leaves all his pokemon behind but pikachu. that way, if its well received, or if you want to make another, you have the transition, but if you dont, then its just ash sailing into the sunset.

Good idea. This goes for anyone who helps me out, I'm gonna give a special thanks to them in the credits. That's ok with you right?

Fine by me. If you are goign to do it all in a thanks to my friends at the escapist way, thats fine. if its individual, please put my real name, whihc i will give when you make the credits through a pm.

Anyway, another suggestion would be to not get stuck up on special effects. its goign to be hard enough to make the pokemon right, let alone do their attacks. You;re going to be targetting a core audience of pokemon fans, and (to me at least), the story will be more important then the effect. Also dont do wat the last airbender did. dont try and get everything in. do the major stuff. gym battles, personality, when ash lets pokemon go, team rocket should show up from time to time, definately the S.S. Anne scene. its going to be.. a decent sized movie. you should try to get as much character development as possible, including when gary screws with Ash and insults him.

...actually.. in retrospect... i would break this up into a few movies, a few gym battles at a time. with all this, its goign to be ALOT. and this is what the last airbender did. No offense to you, but if I happen to see this, I dont want my heart to be crushed like it was with last airbender. and yes, i will reference Last Airbender (TLA) alot, becuase that is wat is wrong when someone takes a good animated series and makes it live action.

Damn, and I just sent you a big PM on an idea I had. Oh well.
Oh, feel free to use other peope;'s ideas. if you like one of thier better, let me know and i'll try to help if i can. and if you would like. I'm just thinking if someone is making a movie for main stream. like when TLA was made.

Well, wahtever you do, you're going to want to capture the spirit of the adventure that pokemon gives.

Ahh, the adventure thing. My idea was a rather darker one, and it can be seen in this thread:http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.220783-Ideas-youve-had-because-of-games#7426413 , actually.

you also should have... well... its wierd. your target audience now is around 18 to early 20s. So you need a character who is one (if not more) of three things (i run in threes by the way):

1) A character who is young and looks at hte world as they should, full of wonder and captruing the adventure spirit.
2) A character who is older (teens) who is a bit more grown up but still has that child like innocence that the audience can relate.
3) A character who is the age of your target audience, who goes a darkler but whimsical adventure that captures that child in him but still relates to the audience.

Preferably, what you want to do is make a team with these three, something like how ash's original team was. Ash is Char. 1, Misty Char. 2, and Brock Char. 3 So your character(s) should be relatable, but also your audience should be able to "see" these characters in their games without much difficulty and themselves int he character.

In my opinion you'll never really capture the essence of pokemon, the carefree adventure that's full of imagination and such, with a live action version. Live action film would simply be too real if you try to imitate the cartoon version (or anime version if people want to get specific).

However, why not in fact do a complete opposite of the cartoon version. Do a "what if pokemon happens in real life" kind of situation. Shows the cruelty and brutality of the sport is if pokemon takes place in reality, acknowledge the cult like fanatic under the seemly naive and adventurous atmosphere. If you handle it with care and enough subtlety, you might be able to appeal to the older generation who experienced pokemon in their early teens plus the general public.

Been thinking, would a older protagonist work in my movie? Like mid to late teens? Just think it would allow for a slightly better plot, but still keep it appealing to younger audiences

Great point, but I think that it should still have a exploratorive tone. Maybe start it with an open feel, and the protagonist thinks that life can't get any better, only to have thngs get proglessively worse and worse.

Like i said in my previous post, i would make a team that captures all three audiences in three differently aged characters. your main character is your main audience, so whihc ever of the three you want to appeal to, that is your main.

Make it a comedy and the girl characters really hot.

It's bound to be successful.

He brings a good point... kinda. Make a character of some importance a girl, so that your movie shows it isnt just a boy's thing, as everyone talks like it is.

Yeah. Think that a love interest may be a bad idea though, don't want to shoe horn one in there and it would defeat the multi-gender purpose almost.

if he is, dont bring it out. young kids are goign to see this and some moms are eh... to "gay is a sin and you will burn in hell." So may just sink your film.
