I am depressed. Don't know why... I'm on Anti Depressants, but they don't work too well..

They stopped working for me on May 10th 2009, I just got so damn depressed all the time, and I have struggled to sleep for about a month.

I'm turning to the escapist community for help...

If i wasn't in a gaming forum.... I'd say exercise.
But i guess the best people around here get is playing Wii Fit.
Otherwise be positive and don't do anything rash.
Also, stay away from alcohol.

I'm on anti-depressants as well, and they don't help much. What makes me feel much better is drinking a lot of [insert favorite sugar drink here] and getting hyper, while listening to some good music. And picking up a new hobby also helps. Now this won't completely make you feel better, I'm still depressed at times, but it makes a few moments worth it.

If the anti-depressant aren't helping as much anymore, then there is something else on your mind that's gotta be making things worse. I won't pretend to know what it is, if anything, but if you want to talk to someone and let whatever you think might be the problem off of your chest, then I'm always available to listen and give the best advice I can. Just drop me a PM if you wanna discuss it.

I'd suggest finding a new hobby, some thing you enjoy and focusing on that.

Socialise, give a gift to someone, something similar to that. That should release some chemicals in your brain which makes you happy, I think.

Um... what?

Playing games is a hobby, not a life style (for most people).

You will find plenty of people who exercise and play game for fun.

Wrong, overtime.
I play both outdoor and indoor soccer multiple times a week and go for a run at least once a day.
Though i agree with the other two points. Stay positive, regardless of what happens... it can stop you doing.. bad things.
Alcohol will just make it worse, i've seen it happen too many times.

But my advice is to find the source of the problem and try and work on that. If it is a culmination of problems (like it should be) then work to fix them one by one. If it works, you will feel things getting better, if not, then try something else.

Try going to the gym. Not only does exercise release chemicals in your brain that will cheer you up, getting results will cheer you up as well. Plus you can spy on hotties between sets.

Pretty much the nail on the head there. exercise gives you room to think of how it can get better, and alcohol makes things 20-30 times worse.

OT: Have you tried councilling? Maybe some form of psychiatrist/psychologist?

Have a cone. Seriously marijuana is possibly the best anti-depressant on the planet, I use it for that reason myself. Other than that exercise, especially a sport or activity you love. When I'm in a rut the thing that cheers me up most is going outside for a kick of the footy with mates, followed by that cone :p.

Have you tried playing World of Goo? Works for me.
Seriously? That's one of the most depressing games ever. Just think about it; all those gooballs giving up their lives just so that the rest can reach the exit pipe...

Have you got any idea what poor advice that is? It relaxes you, it doesn't make you happy. Do you know exactly what THC does to your body?

It was weed (albeit a lot) that eventually drove me to anti-depressants seven years ago. To this day, not a day goes by where I don't think about ending it all........my family are the reason not to.

Weed feels good in the short term.........and fucks you up in the long-run.

Now you've reminded me of the PC Gamer article that compared the game to Schindler's List. DAMN YOU!

Find a hobby, get a friend that understands you to talk with, and try to be positive. If there are any problems in your life that you find, try to work them out.
