I am depressed. Don't know why... I'm on Anti Depressants, but they don't work too well..

They stopped working for me on May 10th 2009, I just got so damn depressed all the time, and I have struggled to sleep for about a month.

Sounds to me like you're an insomniac. Lack of sleep can lead to depression, as can stress. Are you happy with events that are currently going (or not going on) in your life?

Go to somewhere peaceful and beautiful, like the beach or the mountains. Do this during sunsets for extra effect. If possible, also make effort in going there - once you view the vista, the sense of achievement you get is great :)

which meds are you on?
a change in medication can help immensly, if you havent already tried.
for example, i was put on prozac last year which made me worse. later (after hospitalisation >.<) they put me on luvox, which was a big help.

Like many else have said, find someone to talk to.
But my first and foremost advice is to talk to your doctor and tell him/her the medicine isn't working anymore. I'm on antidepressants as well, but I had the fortunate luck of them working almost immediately - I've been stable for a year now. Just keep the communication going between you and your doctor, and if you don't think your doctor is making the situation any better I suggest you find another one.

The whole story is rather long, so I'll just skip to the important part:

- realize that happiness has to come from inside you. It's no use searching it within anything else if you're depressed (don't worry, it's the Zen state I hope you achieve and usually comes last)

- Do things outside your normal environment. Going to the movies alone helped me quite a lot

- Search for activities in which you have to rely almost completely on yourself

- If you want to do something, do it. (Yes, it sounds easier than it is)

- Jogging. No joke, jogging is the best remedy when you feel trapped. I never did anything sporty, but in the end, starting to run was one of the best decisions I made

- Take time for yourself. Don't repress bad feelings, you have to search for the 'why' and how you can change what's bringing you down.

- The alcohol thing... well, it works. Only for a short time, but it might help you surface what's wrong/the way you want to be

you've become immune to the anti-depressants.stupid psychiatrists, giving people drugs instead of talking things through.just find what depresses you and destroy it or somethin, your choice.

Go out and do something dangerous, like picking a fight with half a dozen chavs by yourself. Worked for me the last time, and it's what I'm planning to do now.

It depends... many different types of depression exists out there and there isn't a silver bullet to cute them all. Worse is some of the treatments out there only work for certain people and some will make it worse in you then better.

Personally, and this is just me, think of those you care about, really think about them. There is two ways to face this, one I heard about and one I did myself. What would you say to them if you did something quite stupid and just how would they feel emotionally?

People tell me all the time I shouldn't live for others, but that is what kept me strong enough to still be around.

Being a sufferer of bi polar myself i completely relate to how you are feeling but you can't gauge the worth of your existence on whether "friends" want to see you or not.

If you feel lonely then find something to do on the internet, maybe write a short story or start an RP?

PM me if you wanna talk dude i am on most of the time =]

Im honestly sorry if i cant help but this works for me i have been depressed for about 2 years and im slowly getting better now.

Go for long walks while listening to your favorite music, try not to listen to super depressing songs listen to metal or something fast to get you going, you can also jog, if you play an instrument play more, do anything to make it so you dont think about how shitty life is, that was my problem i had nothing to do so i just sat there and thought badly about myself, the more you do something the easier it is to feel better cause your not focusing on life your focusing on the task at hand, if you have a good friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend go be with them and spend time doing something, watching movies, playing video games, talking anything just take your mind off life, and dont worry about the future or past.

Im not sure if you know this or not but anti depressents dont make you happy they just adjust the chemicals in your brain so its possible to be happy, If there is too much chemical X ( i dont know the name sorry) it is really hard to feel better, so you cant just rely on pills, im not saying you are but like i said i dont know if you knew that haha.

You yourself have to make yourself happy, if this helped at all feel free to talk to me more through a private message =D

Personally what I did for the period of time that I was depressed(it happened last year) is listen to music, talk to friends if possible...though that wasn't very often, and tried to entertain myself with hobby's like games and playing a musical instrument. Music is always a key thing for me, I listen to a lot of metal, that always help take your mind off things. And i find it often can turn sadness into anger, which is better if dealt with properly. Another thing that I mentioned:playing an instrument. It's something I know has helped many people, if you can't play anything, try learning. Maybe guitar because it's common and their cheap to buy. It will give you something to do, and I find music always helps things.

Last thing, you should talk to your "friends" if they're making excuses, just confront them, ask them why. If they don't want to be with you then maybe they shouldn't be the people they call your friends. If not, go out and meet some people, find people you can talk to.
