The longest ones I can think of for the games I have is SSX on tour. I didn't remember the loading being bad back when it came out, but now it's painful. I think we would be mostly in agreement that the one thing we miss from the cartridge days is lack of load screens that were more than a second or two.

Most of Valve's games that I've played (including Gmod, despite not being made by Valve technically). Is it the engine?
...what? What were you playing on? if pc it must be terrible because I never loaded for more than 10 seconds.
PC. Gmod and TF2 have the worst of it when trying to load a multiplayer game. Oh, they manage it, but it takes several minutes.

Hm maybe this doesn't count but when I still played runes of magic there was this daily guildwar with rediculously good rewards. Even if you lost. Problem is the servers couldn't handle the traffic resulting in freezes, crashes, random disconnects and so on. It was so bad that it was more of a logging-back-in war than an actual guildwar. Often you'd pretty much just be going from desktop to login to character select to crash and back to desktop for an hour.

Also, another ftp mmo I once played had this problem that if you tried to log into a full server your computer would crash forcing you to reboot completely. And the servers were ALWAYS full. SO actually getting in and playing could easily take hours during peak hours. Or you could get in on the first try if you were lucky.

Quake 4 was horrific, you turned it on then go take a dump and it would maybe be done by the time you got back.

And more recently Dawn of War 2 steam version when my internets cut out, the game is so brilliantly programmed that it waited nearly a minute before it would figure out there is no connection, and it did that on start and end of every mission.

Fable 1, 2 and 3. I use the time in load screens to do a few press ups or something, so I'm never too bothered by it.

Dawn of War: Soulstorm.

The campaign meta-map takes forever to load and the larger skirmish maps' loading bars sometimes go backwards.

It isn't quite "Put cassette in, type load, go away for half an hour" but it was certainly a noticeable step back from Dark Crusade.

When Shogun 2 boots up, it takes a good 3 minutes to load for some obscure reason. In-game though, New Vegas wins by miles; I've spent at least one fiftieth of my time on that game in loading screens. It isn't so bad now, but it used to be appalling.

Fallout New Vegas.

Oh hey, a new building!

*Enters*

*Loading for a minute and a half*

*Finally loads, then subsequently freezes*

shogun 2, Napoleon was already bad but shogun takes the crown. i literally go make a cup of coffee when a battle loads and come back before the speech ends.

also trying to find a guerrilla warfare game in killzone 3, that takes forever but that may be related to it being the weakest mode.

PSP title - Spectral Souls: Resurrection of the Ethereal Empires

load each stage
load to move
load to talk
load to fight
load to use special move
load to use normal move
load to open menu
load to close menu

......... and it's STILL horribly laggy!

I really want to play this game... it just shouldn't have been made for a portable system.

Oh I don't know... how 'bout STARCRAFT 2!?

That game would be a lot more fun to play if the game didn't take 9 minutes for it to go through a black transition screen, then a loading screen, and finally another black transition screen for a mission. At least that's what it's like for me. For the record I AM using the lowest graphical settings on that game.

Back when my old computer was on the lamb it took 3 hours to load a section in Half Life 2. No joke.
You... you have the patience of a god.
Who said he wasn't one?
...Perhaps I should I start making sacrifices to his glory?
I have this guy beat by a mile.

EverQuest WAYYYYY back in the day. If the game was not loaded up every day(took at least 45minutes per log on besides the 5+ min load times when changing area's) Say after a weekend or week of not playing. I shit you not 24 hours of loading to get it to start.

This. I remember spending 10 minutes waiting for the damn game to load the campaign.

Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, for PS2.
Agreed... thats about all I can say aboot this topic
I agree as well.

The load times on the Playstation 2 version are proper ridiculous, however the Gamecube version of the game is surprisingly quick with it's load times, due to the smaller media.

Also, the loading times on Modnation Racers is god awful, even to a point that I don't even want to buy the game because of it (yes, it's that bad).

Sonic 2006 is a pretty obvious one, I've even heard that in a 20 hour play through, two hours of it is spent in loading screens on average, now that's pretty fucking bad.
