I like you. You make sense. I hold that in high regard on the web-ernet.The Random One said:Now, this is just my personal belief, but I think that anyone who feels they have to refute science to believe in God just doesn't have a lot of faith in their belief. And anyone who feels they should refute God exclusively so that it doesn't interfere with their scientific beliefs doesn't, either.
It's a miracle!Da Joz said:I had no idea ICP was still around.
I remember those crazy Bill Nye the Science Guy songs, I always laughed at how stupid they were. I always wondered if they really thought their stupid little songs would make science some cool in thing with the kids if they related it to a pop or rap style song.zombie711 said:this is Bill Nye the Science Guy meets 50 cent.
Watching the ICP video, I kept chuckling to myself. I got as far as "pet dogs and cats" before I just guffawed and had to stop. It reminds me too much of Ray Comfort's Banana--The Atheist's nightmare. Just as the banana is the "perfect" shape for a hand because of thousands of years of human intervention, dogs and cats were domesticated from wild animals. I half expected something like "I dropped a lightbulb and it fell and broke! MIRACLE!" The bar for "miracle" is set really low, but ICP already set the bar pretty low for rap, so they had to up the ante.Spiterider said:when i first heard the ICP video i couldn't help but laugh, they basically made it seem that science doesn't exist and everything is a miracle and has absolutely no explanation beyond its existence. now thanks to Paul and graham we know how the fuck magnets work. thank you Paul and Graham.
Actually, the majority of modern scientists hold the view which Dawkins expressed: multiple pressures resulted in the evolution of the giraffe's neck.rafiqofthemany said:i didn't say that they only eat from one source they do eat high leaves but not as often as lower ones, and just cause one scientist says something doesn't make it right, most modern scientist hold the neck as a weapon viewpointDecabo said:I don't know what's funnier, the fact that you got offended that I referenced someone extremely knowledgeable on the subject to disprove you, or the fact that you're suggesting giraffes can only eat from one food source. If it'll help unbunch your panties, let's just say it came from multiple sources.rafiqofthemany said:yeah well explain that to my evolution professor, while giraffes sometimes eat leaves from the top of the trees they mainly eat plants closer to the ground including during the dry season when leaves are harder to come by, on the other hand males who win in combat are more likely to mate and the male with the longer neck is more likely to winDecabo said:You have it backwards, giraffes evolved to reach the tops of the trees. Using it to find a mate is just a bonus. This is what Richard Dawkins said on the Colbert Report.rafiqofthemany said:actually giraffes have long necks to combat other males the leaves on trees is just a plus
I think that that was part of the joke.theownerer said:sorry but the 'song' was pretty lame. Paul was just talking with music playing in the background. It got better and funnier when Graham came in but it still felt pretty weak.
well yes of course there are multiple pressures at work and the food reach is a plus its just that the main force was mate competition or sexual selection as darwin called if your going to invoke old C D. Its just that when looking at the evolutionary orgin of an adaptation one must make sure to look for the correct answer. while a trait may seem like it developed for a particular reason it is simply a coincidental advantage, the real proven force is mate competition in this situationRvLeshrac said:Actually, the majority of modern scientists hold the view which Dawkins expressed: multiple pressures resulted in the evolution of the giraffe's neck.rafiqofthemany said:i didn't say that they only eat from one source they do eat high leaves but not as often as lower ones, and just cause one scientist says something doesn't make it right, most modern scientist hold the neck as a weapon viewpointDecabo said:I don't know what's funnier, the fact that you got offended that I referenced someone extremely knowledgeable on the subject to disprove you, or the fact that you're suggesting giraffes can only eat from one food source. Further, the fact that they are able to eat the leaves at the tops of trees doesn't imply that they prefer eating from the tops of the trees, just that they CAN. In times of a food shortage, this is an obvious advantage, but when food is plentiful, they may prefer the taste of the shrubbery lower to the ground.
Bollocks, giraffes have long necks so that the eruption of blood when they get decapitated is that much more satisfying. How does the blood shoot that high?rafiqofthemany said:actually giraffes have long necks to combat other males the leaves on trees is just a plus
The only individuals who tout the theory of sexual selection as the primary reason for the evolution of the giraffe's neck are either creationists or glory-hounds (Simmons et al). All of the research on the subject for the last 100 years has led to this conclusion.rafiqofthemany said:well yes of course there are multiple pressures at work and the food reach is a plus its just that the main force was mate competition or sexual selection as darwin called if your going to invoke old C D. FTFY. I wasn't trying to say that their attempt didn't matter because it came out later. However, the fact that the rap sucked and it wasn't very funny didn't help the fact that it came out after it had been parodied by multiple sources already.Slycne said:Yes because writing script, gathering crew, setting up a scene, shooting video, editing video and adding post production graphics is such a faster process than one guy writing a blog post and doing some work in photoshop.7ru7h said:http://www.cracked.com/blog/learn-your-motherfuckin-science-with-the-icp/
DOB on Cracked did it first and did it better
There is plenty of room for parody to go around.
