This is the reason why the whole "games as art" shit pisses me off.

I like my over the top absurd games. Some people get it in their heads that all games must now be like Journey to move the medium forward.

To them I say, piss off and leave our fun games alone.
Exactly!
Games are not "art", they are an art form. And just because they are an art form does not means we cannot have some over the top crazy fun, and every game must be "deep" and have symbolism. So Lollipop chainsaw gets the rights to pass as a video game.

Firstly, shes in a Cheerleader uniform, which is every Man's dream.

Secondly, there is worse out there in gaming, and its still doing fine.

Gaming as a whole in recent years has tried to prove to the world that it is a valid artistic medium on par with film and should be protected under the first amendment I believe games like Lollipop Chainsaw do nothing but hurt the progress
that the medium has made of the years.
People in politics over the years have said that games are too violent and have too much sex in them and this game is blatantly throwing it in everyone face. Sure the game companies can say "its a mature game kids should not play it" But come on its a half naked chick in a schoolgirl uniform killing zombies basically every 14 year old boys wet dream.
I for one and not normally one to cry that games have too much sex and violence but this game is blatantly spiting in the face of all the hard work game developers have fought for for so long.
Its Suda51. He can make batshit insane into art. That is HIS business......and SWEARY too.

Also, if you havent noticed, No More Heroes may seem like a mindless game but its a well done social commentary on the hardcore gamer community reflected on the main character Travis Touchdown

That its because a work of x medium is as smart as the people who watches/plays/reads it. The only person who is unable to find meaning to something is someone who is brain dead, mostly dead, kinda dead or a politician.

So we should all just stick to realistic boring moral-tastic games then?

No thanks, a bit of sheer madness livens up the monotony of the pile of straight laced FPS's or "party" games. Bat shit weird games are why I got into this hobby in the first place.

What, we can't have just one silly little nonsensical game once in a while?
The only thing that can ruin gaming is trying to make every game a work of art.

So? Micheal Bay still makes movies but films are still considered respectable.
And literature will not die just because a dumb 40's something ***** makes a retarded and mysoginistic work of romance about vampires and werewolves and pedophilia and mary sues.

Nor it will EVER destroy works of genius like everything Jorge Luis Borges makes.

What kind of insanity have you been subjected thanks to gaming? what games did you play in all your life that fit that criteria?

To sit there and say you support how video games should be a valid artistic medium and protected under the first amendment but then decry the violence and blatent sexuality in Lollipop Chainsaw is a tad bit hypocritical...

Since games are now protected under the first amendment we don't have to give a shit about fox news or the daily mail or some idiot parent that bought a mature game for their 8 year old without researching it.

The game cannot be banned it cannot be censored therefore we can ignore all the negative opinions from people who are full of shit and if you think a game has gone too far then just ignore it.

And another thing OP by your definition we shouldn't have games like just cause and dead rising cause they are just about silly violence or portal that's just a sadistic robot creating elaborate ways to kill people hell I could probably come up with a reason why every single game in existence should be banned but it would be all bullshit

Game developers don't need to work for shit.

Video games are an intentional expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. That's fuckin art. Dictionary, ************. You can't argue with that shit.

A game could be nothin but a prolonged titty-gropin sim, it would still be art. Because someone made that shit. With dey imagination and creative skill.

Pretty much this. I have no interest in this game whatsoever but I'm sure other people will buy, and enjoy it. I see no real problem with making this game.

I'm playing it just for the dialogue. 'My sisters and I all wear our vaginas proud.' Goddamn that's brillant.

I understand your perspective, but I think you are approaching it from the wrong direction.

What we need to focus on is not fewer immature power fantasies. Any individual example of the cliche are not bad when taken alone. In the world of art, most any perspective or approach is at least worth experiencing. What we need is more of what we consider (in a kneejerk way) to be artistic. We need a selection of games with strong writing, meaningful commentary, and general artistic value that is not dressed in the trappings of shallow power fantasies, however valid many games are as artistic expression through the lens of the shoot em up or beat em up. We don't really have that anywhere near the mainstream right now. But once we do, games will be accepted, no matter how many Lollipop Chainsaws we make.

Right now, movies will always be considered a valid medium, no matter how many Michael Bay movies get made, because everyone knows that movies once brought us Citizen Kane, Shindlers List, and Casablanca. Once we get a Dear Esther, The Path, Passage or Journey to propel itself into the public conscious, then even the most stogy old coot or quasi beatnik will attribute any number of 14 year old boys fantasies to Sturgeons Law.

Games like lollipop chainsaw, creative crazy few and far between games that the public are arbitraily scared of despite knowing nothing about it are the reason we fight for first amendment rights to begin with. Why would we censor ourselves based on others standards, it's what we're trying to prevent.

While I do love Journey, I agree with you. I also enjoy over the top violent games. Gotta have variety when it comes to the games I play ya know?

Things like Katamari Damacy, Boogerman, Rocket Knight Adventures, Postal 2, Ristar, Earthworm Jim just to name a few. Hell, even Mario is weird once you take a step back and look at it.

Theyre the kinds of games I meant, just weird and fun to play, not bothered about morals, messages or wanting to be taken seriously by the "mainstream media", just wanting to played and enjoyed.

It's not a schoolgirl uniform, it's a cheerleader uniform.

In a more serious vein: why can't we have the goofy fun stuff in addition to the sophisticated art? Every other artistic medium spans the entire spectrum from "things that are just there for fun" to "serious, thought-provoking stuff", so why not games?

This is exactly what is wrong with the games as art crowd.
Can games be art? well yes of course they can.
Should all games be art? Oh hell no, Games should be fun. If you have to sacrifice the fun to make the art, its not a game any more; now is it.

posting in a troll thread, have fun with your rant on your blog later op. This is a great idea for game for the simple fact that it proves people are still willing to go that extra mile with creativity to piss people off. There will never be another game like lollipop chainsaw " no matter how many squeals it may get".

There wouldn't be any more grand theft auto, twisted metal, doom or insert another blank fps game here if they didn't push the envelope before. Also face the facts it's 2012 not 1993 most voters are gamers from that generation now.
