Well, the last week, every time I tried to get on the escapist I couldn't and was greeted with a humorous pic and a short message saying it will be back in a bit. I do not count a week as back in a bit.

However, this got me thinking. There are a lot of times that I get told, this will be quick, short, etc, when it really isn't.

So, what I want to know is: What is the longest short thing you have ever had to deal with (NOTE: NO INNUENDO!). It could be something that in your perspective took too long, like the injection they give you to numb your mouth or something else that really just went on far too long.

I think I will go with the infamous "five minutes" of the Namek saga in DBZ. You know the one about how long it would take Namek to blow up. Longest five minutes ever.

When I used to play Black Ops the servers acted funny for me for a while.
Kept telling me that they were down and would be back up shortly. Only problem was, all my friends could play (in fact it booted me off the servers whilst I was playing with them) and it only affected Multiplayer for some reason.
The servers were "temporarily down" for me for about 2 weeks.

I was told it would take fifteen minutes to service my car, so I decided to wait right there. Seven hours later, they finally finished. I expect service to go over estimate, but by a factor of twenty-eight??

A couple summers ago I was hiking through the mountains in Colorado with some friends. It was getting pretty late and we were all tired as hell so we asked our guide how much further we had until we reached camp.

"Just over this ridge," he says. We get over the ridge, camp nowhere to be seen.
"I mean over this next ridge." Next ridge - nothing.
This went on for almost 2 more hours.

Looking back, I'm pretty sure the guy was just dicking around with us, but when you're tired and hungry all you can think is "Fuck that guy."

last week the escapist was down for around 30 minutes. your browser just didnt refresh the redicrect, meaning its about time to reinstall that beast.
Well, i once were waitin for some documents that their said "ill just go make these and give it to you". turns out i ended up sittign there for 3 hours.... what should ahve been a 5 minutes picup turned into whole days work.

oh yea that thing lasted for hours.
then again if you consider the speed the sayans were going during the fight, then slow down it to speed that we can observe, 5 minutes would be many hours. Then again half of that fight was same 5 scenes reused over and over again. DBZ was good but god the artists were lazy.

Another "Short time" i had was when i was taking photo for my passport. the guy at photo studio had to take a photo, transfer it to the machine and print it. the "Transfering" part took 20 minutes. not his fault though.

Well, I've got 2 instances, honestly I can't choose between the 2... They were both horrendous...

1 - I once got a friend phoning me while I was watching porn and the phone call seemed to go for hours. The conversation was awkward because I didn't pause the video and 2 ladies were grinding another lady right in front of me as my friend moaned about his girlfriend...

2 - I wrote 3 "critical" essays (on Black Swan, TGWTDT and a Maya Angelo Poem), one about violent videogames and a short story (only about six hours if you cut out porn breaks) and towards the last couple of essays I had a splitting head ache, an agonizing back and a stiff neck... What seemed like 2 hours of work left turned into what felt like a day... And my laptop was burning my crotch.

Once, my family and I were sitting in a restaurant when I was a lot younger. Now I say restaurant, but it was the kind of restaurant that leads right out onto the beach, it?s a relaxed atmosphere, and the food isn't exactly gourmet. That?s fine, we were at the beach, we just wanted cheap and cheerful food, and so we sat down. After a while, we had our choices (I was a fussy child, and in fairness, am a (less) fussy ?young adult? so I?ve got no doubt my order included chips), and we managed to get a waiter over and an order in. Now this wasn?t precisely a big place, so you?d expect our food would?ve taken 10-15 mins right? After around half an hour, there was nothing forthcoming. After a further half hour, this was still true.

We got up and left the place without paying.

Trying to get into Guild Wars 2 on release day aka the infamous error 42. It took several hours to fix althought I think I had just miss most of it or just sleep when they trying to sort out the error.

I was trying to buy a textbook from a guy. He said he would be right there, but instead of showing up to the appointed meeting place, he got blackout drunk on 5 dollar gin and passed out on someone's couch. He was still drunk the next day, when he actually gave me the book. So that was about 12 hours or so.

I went out with a girl that used to just pick up the phone whenever it rang. Most situations it isn't a problem for her to have a 15 minute conversation. Some it is more awkward. Especially when you're having sex, and especially especially when you don't particularly stop having sex while she talks. Then that 15 minute conversation may have lasted as long as it took for civilisation to develop. Super frustrating.

Actually... no... that may have been the plan. I might need to rethink this.

Also, captcha asks what planet we're on. Doesn't accept Sol 3 or Holy Terra. Stop being difficult about me being difficult.

It seems to me that most of your problems are porn-related. Maybe you should put the brakes on it, you wouldn't want to over-porn yourself. Couldn't you just pause, and resume the porn later?

OT: "I'll be there in a few." At the time, it didn't occur to me that he meant hours.

Installing Linux Mint. Set up a virtual machine to test the OS. Left it to install after I was happy with it. Came back 2 hours later after lunch. Saw that it was stuck at installing codecs, something that's supposed to happen in the first half of the installation.

Windows in particular also fits this, what with taking three hours just to get all of the drivers.
