'Look how they shine for you
And every thing you do...'
Sorry, couldn't help it.
Astronomy is okay. There's some interesting which I doubt I'll every be able to understand.
As to 'are we alone?' all I can say is maybe. Other life is possible but the chances of us existing at the same time as well as being able to communicate (considering technology and distances) is slim to nil.
But there's something nice about looking at the stars I find.

Have you ever looked up at the stars?
Yes.

In my opinion they are beautiful thousands of twinkling little light dancing up there in the skies. But when I think of how many stars there are in the sky, sometimes I realize just how small we really are on this blue planet we call Earth.
I agree. But keep your perspective. If you think about it too much you *will* go insane.

Do the people here on this forum like astronomy?
Some do, some don't, most don't give a rat's ass. I'm one of them.

And do you think we are alone?
No. Here's hoping if we do get visitors, they're the peaceful, share interplanetary information kind, not the "take me to your leader so we can rule" kind and that we don't blow our new friends to kingdom come if they do nothing to deserve it.

I found my self looking at the moon the entire way home after the pub last night. It was full and split through the clouds. The thing that always amazing me looking at stars is how our eyes don't seem to be developed to looking at them. Staring straight up will normally produce a black sky, but on the corner of your vision little pinpricks of light start to appear.

Also it's a bit weird when you full consider the light reaching you left millions of years ago and the star in question may not even exist.
