I have this urge the play a certain type of game:

Post apocalypse and you have to defend your station, house, cabin etc.
You have to scavenge to get food, weapons and perhaps finer things to make your place of living more appealing.
A survival game really, the plot is just, survive. Does anyone know about a game in the likeness to what I am describing?

But to make this a broader discussion: The best post-apocalypse game:
I'd say Half-Life 2 and Fallout 3.

You didn't say if you're looking for FPS or TPP, so...

Oldie but goldie. :)

Best PA game ? Fallout 2. Fallout 3 is very, very good, but it becomes boring after a while. Like all Bethesda's games and only mods of good quality can prolong the gameplay. Still, most people prefer to tinker with textures or models instead of making additional quests nowadays. :|

This game looks nice, see if I can find it anywhere, although I doubt I can find it where I live. But I agree with you on the texture/quest thing. People focus too much on new textures and looks rather then making new quests and expanding the story.
But this may sound waaaay to picky (and it is...) but is there any game that you have your single base that you come back to, single reliable safe haven.

You may want to grab version in different language if english isn't available - there's a good translation. Just google for "the fall english mod".

The Fall is what Fallout:Van Buren should be. I had good fun playing it. :)

Let's think...
It seems that you have entered the twilig... i mean you have entered the uncharted territory. :)
Maybe with the exceptions of some simple tower defense games i don't remember any game that fits your description.

You may, of course, use some mod with custom abode/base/fort/vault with F3 or F:NV, spawn some angry mob nearby and roleplay a bit. You know, siege of Castle Steinar of something. ;)

Ah, wait !

Silly me. I forgot about AE. It covers some aspects of what you seek. You may find it interesting despite being in essence turn based strategy/ccg mix. :)

Jagged Alliance 2 *might* fit the bill. It's not based in a post-apoc exactly, but rather a war ravaged country. You start with a very modest amount of funds and need to hire a team to spearhead an insurgency. A lot of the game centers around scavenging equipment (there's NEVER enough - you usually enter the end game with at least a few guys with crap armor and lousy guns). You also need to take and hold territory and prioritize what to focus on holding. One of my favorite parts was you can have up to 3 active teams of mercs, so you could choose to either let the locals you train try to defend a territory or leave some of your "elite" (Usually third string mercs, to be honest) to help defend.

New version is being released on STEAM in a month or so - can't say if it's going to be any good or not as they've changed a fair chunk of the game. You can download the old one for pretty cheap though.

You're not going to like this suggestion but the whole defend your cabin and go out for finer things sounds like minecraft.

Sure you could either make or find apocalypse skin set for it, and give mobs the ability to knock down walls to get to you.

I'm actually playing a apocalypse based game but its an rpg entitled Nocturne. I would probably suggest the myriad of zombie games released lately. I know there is one game similar to what your describing but I don't remember the name of it is at the moment, it looked pretty good too, though i don't think it's out yet anyways.
