Hello again escapists.

To keep things short and sweet, I'm in between jobs filling out applications like crazy and just want a game that hasn't been done to death, that i feel can really just suck me into it in a very strong form of escapism.

I have games like Skyrim, Assassins Creed, and The Old Republic, but none of these titles seem to be holding my attention because i feel like i've done it all before.

What Original games would recommend to this bored Schmuck who can't even afford an avatar (jk jk i've enough for a rental at least.)

Dark Souls. It will make you forget your troubles by making even more terrible, horrible, dangerous, deadly troubles.

I had put like 60 hours into demon's souls then the ps3 broke. i haven't had the desire to do anything like that again since.

Depends what you mean by "done to death".
Game mechanics?
Or setting of the game?

mechanics i guess.

For Example, i've played all of the assassin's creed games, but can't get into revelations because it feels very similar to all the previous games. Same with Gears of War, i just finished the first one and the challenge was great (also frustrating) fun. but I don't feel compelled to start the first one.

I can grind Disgea 4 for hours. I find it really relaxing for some reason.

Not sure if you have access to a ps3 or not but i would highly recommend giving Valkyria Chronicles a go. Gorgeous aesthetic and a very intresting combat system and one of the few games to touch on the subject of holacaust.

I think theres a free demo to download on PSN so try before you buy ;)

Well im afraid your stuck. These days it is VERY rare that a truly original game comes out :/

Like others have said, portal/portal 2. Nothing else like it.

Metal gear HD if you havnt already played those. Pretty much unique now since the stealth genres seems to be pretty much dead.

Left 4 dead 2 is quite original, if you are prepared to take it online.

If your willing to dig back a few years - super cheap these days ^_^:

The condemned games focus on first person melee combat, which is pretty original.

Chronicles of riddick escape from butcher bay is also enjoyable mix of stealth/ shooting. AND is quite long.

Fallen Earth

Post-apoc MMO with FPS style combat. The gameworld is huge and very atmospheric, character builds are not class based so you won't feel restricted that way, and the open world design means you don't feel like you have to be running the levelling treadmill all the time. And it's F2P now, with very few restrictions on free accounts.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I realize that with TOR and Skyrim i really shouldn't complain but they just aren't exciting me anymore. I'll be sure to pick a few of these suggestions and try them out over the next couple of days :D

You could try Bulletstorm, sure it's an FPS but it's one that makes you think about the environment...and the varies ways you can kick and explode it to mutilate your enemies.

Castle Crashers, it's a fun little adventure game. It's funny, witty, and you can have friends join you. (or random online people) Also once you beat the game you can go back through and play a hard mode. Also unlock new characters to play with new moves and spells.

UPDATE:

I just hit up the video store and rented Enslaved: oddessy to the east(i think it's east i don't have it in front of me) The last Remnant, and Bulletstorm at blitztank's suggestion.(i got a sweet deal and only payed 3 dollars because i had been away so long) and when i'm done with those i'ma download and demo Valkyria Chronicles. I have 5 days to get the most out of 3 stellar looking games :D Hopefully this curbs my boredom while i'm looking for work

You could always try Bastion, if you haven't already. I thought it was a great game to lose myself in. At least for 6-7 hours.

I feel like I'm advertising, but I FELL IN LOVE with Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective recently. If you don't mind puzzle-type games, and reading a fair bit of text, you'll love this game. Great character animations, an absolutely stellar soundtrack, a very good amount of game-play time, and it's just overall fun ^.^ Can get it for DS or iPhone, and I went for the latter, probably cause it'd be cheaper XD 10$ Isn't bad for this game at all :3

Honestly, after reading all the suggestions that people told you and the fact that you don't seem to be attracted by the choices that they gave you maybe a video game is not what you need to forget your troubles. The doctor (me) recommends a good walk (Or a jogging) in the night with the stars shining and the moon with your favorite band playing on your MP3 or maybe some relaxing music like Mike Oldfield (his music really feels like you're escaping, if you're not familiar with him, check it out).

But if you are really looking for a special game then, try Earthbound, it's really really fun and original.
