Starship Troopers
The Forever War
The Honor Harrington series (That will last a while)
Snowcrash
Dune

I hope you like Sci-Fi, because that's the majority of what I read (fiction-wise) and about all I have to recommend.

Any particular genre? I would recommend anything by Terry Pratchett really espically Guards Guards and the colour of magic if your looking for fantasy stuff.

The book thief is something I'd say everyone should read. Mighty depressing at times but dang, it's well worth it.

Damn! But yeah, I would also recommend any Discworld book.

I personally loved A Confederacy of Dunces.
It is about a man who is clearly awesome in every way, but the world refuses to recognize his genius because everyone is a moron.

A lot of people will suggest the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. I don't disagree.

If you like him, you should try out stuff by Kage Baker - if nothing else make sure to read The Anvil of the World. Not quite as funny as Pratchett, and a bit tiring at times, but in the same style.

Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann. I finished it last night, and it's great. Kind of depressing, though.

Thats an amazing book :). Sort of historical, and so well written!

Um.. since you didn't give any real genre, so I'm just gonna look for random inspiration from my bookcase...
You could try the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks or any of the books by Trudy Canavan (The Black Magician Trilogy, or The Age of the Five Trilogy).
Also good are the Terry Pratchet books, like lots of people have said - the Hogfather and Soul Music are really good.

The hitchikers guide to the galaxy penta... quin.... 5 books.
The 6th one by Eoin Colfer is a cash in that really annoyed me.
The originals? far better than the film or tv series. If you like Sci fi, comedy, and are a little smart, theyre a good read.
