I highly suggest the Logitech G9x. It's a gaming mouse that's as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. It will plug and play, or you can customize your own profile if you want to.
It has 4 on the fly sensitivity settings, you can change the shape of the mouse, change the weight, and it has the both clicky mouse wheel or you can set it to smooth.

It's $70 at newegg.com right now, or wherever you want to look.

Edit: I've had mine for over 3 years now and the only thing that's happened is the left button is discoloured from use.

I prefer a simple mouse too and can recommend steelseries "ikari" laser mouse.

For me it was the perfect mouse, simple but still with many qualities of a good gamer mouse.

I use the Razer mouse you linked, I've been using it over a year now and it hasn't really let me down. I say "really" because the left mouse button sometimes clicks twice but that's probably down to me fucking it up, it can lead to some hilarious moments in WoW anyway when I click a mob to target him, but end up attacking him and wiping everybody. I've done it with a raid boss too, my mouse be trollin'.

I play FPS's too and it works very smoothly, I'd definitely recommend it, mine has served me well enough. I'm usually quite sceptical of gaming mice and keyboards, assuming the only thing that makes them "gamer" is the blue lights and fancy designs, but I immediately noticed the difference when I changed from a default Microsoft mouse to a gamer one. It didn't make me a better player, but it sure as shit made it a fuckton easier to play good.

All right, I've thought about it pretty hard, and I've settled on the Logitech G500 [http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G500-Programmable-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B002J9GDXI/ref=pd_cp_e_2]. Thanks for all the help, guys!

Hm, I've heard of the RAT series before, but was never too sure about them. I have a few concerns though, Is it comfortable? Also, is there any significant difference in the versions? Some people are also saying the sensor has issues. Are these problems in reality?

I've been using Logitech logitech mx5XX series for years, I think MX518 is the latest one, not too sure. I have a bit of an outdated one and holy fuck, I love that mouse. It's pretty cheap, I've had mine for around 4 years of really hardcore usage and it's never bailed on me and it's over all awesome.

So I think that's the best option. And remember, razer gear is Gamers way of overcompensating.
It looks pretty nice, how is it comfort-wise?
Most comfortable mouse I've ever used hands down. And I've seen a few mouses, old and new. It is Ridiculously comfortable for any kind of work, and your hand just seems like it's found an old missing friend; rather than having to learn how to use it, you'll have to learn how to use other mice because you'll become addicted to them.

I wouldn't really recommend the RAT if you palm your mouse. The fact that the back of the mouse just kind of slides out, means that you'll have a ridge digging into the palm of your hand, and that doesn't seem too comfortable. Take another look at the pictures and you'll notice what I'm talking about instantly.

I would have to recommend the logitech G5. Its a good solid mouse, custom weight, decent dpi, dpi +- buttons, 5 button mouse, clicky scroll wheel (I hate the smooth ones too). The buttons have a very nice click so you know when you press them just make sure you use it away from sleeping people, I know this from experience. You can also buy them for cheaper than most other gaming mice (I think ive seen it for $60 recently). The only feature it doesnt have is macro buttons but I prefer those on my keyboard anyways.

The G500 is nice, I guess .. but if you were looking for a "basic" mouse, well, programmable mice are banned in some competitions.
Mainly why I don't use 'em.

"Gaming mouse" is such a BS term IMO. I have not had a single problem with my $15 3 button wireless Logitech.

I use a MX Revolution for work, 3D CAD modeling, 8 hours a day. Never failed and doesn't put strain on my hand. Button mapping is quite easy and lot's of programmable buttons.
So yeah, 2 in favour for a Logitech.

saves you a Google search.
I am using that exact mouse as we speak, and I must agree that it's great.

Personally, I was a 20 year fan of Logitech until I started having issues with the left mouse button on multiple Logitech mice. Even my MX Revolution started having issues with click and drag unless I pressed down in just the right spot on the mouse button. And when I did some online troubleshooting, I discovered that there are plenty of people who have had problems with the switches used in some Logitech mice (the thin piece of copper in the switch gets bent/warped and won't connect properly). I replaced mine with a Death Adder 3500 and haven't had any issues to speak of.

But if you're planning on click-heavy gameplay (like Diablo III), I wouldn't waste money on a cheap mouse. A gaming mouse should have a much more durable mouse button switch that won't wear out so easily.

And if you have money left over, get the basic Black Widow keyboard from Razor. Mechanical keys are so much better than what you'll find on a $10 keyboard.

I've had the Rat 5 for over a year, never come across any sensor issues at all, it fits my hand like it was specially moulded for me, with the adjustable weight set up it has exactly the right weight for me to feel comfortable with and the best bit, no matter how hard you'palm' this mouse you are not going to trap your flesh in the gap between the palm rest and the side wheel

i use a razer copperhead. its an oldie, but it does the job. 2 customisable buttons, two quick sensitivity buttons. clicky mousewheel, wired, and has lasted me 2 years so far with not a single issue. however it is NOT sculpted to the right hand, it is for both left and right hands.

personally i'm a leftie when it comes to gaming, so its perfect for me, but not to everybodies tastes.

Why do people think you need a special gaming mouse? Any 5 button mouse works fine. A DPI toggle is a nice touch, but not necessary.
Five buttons?

...I only have 3... D:

What do the other 2 do?
On my mouse there is the standard left/right click and middle mouse button/scroll wheel, but then there are two buttons on the side that are used as a "back" and "forwards" key in internet browsers, and can be mapped to anything in games

Oh right, I've used those before. Hate them though, makes it impossible to browse the internet :/
The one I have has them placed really well, I have only accidentally gone back a few times (at the worst possible moment of course) but yea most that I have seen have them placed in the worst positions

I like my Saitek GM3200 that I got for ?20 which I am pretty happy with. It also has much better on the fly sensitivity settings than the one you are looking at.
