Resident Evil outbreak 1 and 2 are the best resident evil titles apart from 4,
they're the only ones that are genuinely scary.
Really? The only ones I would class as not scary are 4 & 5. They're action games, not survival horror.

Also, I'd say the REmake was head & shoulders above the others, and I doubt I'd be alone in saying that
I completely forgot about the REmake, yes thats scary and damn good, not as fun as res 4 but definitely one of the best in the series. All of the games have their scary moments like the labs in 4 but outbreak is the one that really emphasises the Survival. Most of the time you have about 5 shots for a pistol and 4 inventory slots, not being an action game it's not annoying. and outbreak 1 has that hospital stage when your being followed by the leech people in the ventilation which is about as scary as the res games get. In all the others you could walk through a door and escape but the leech people would follow you throughout the building and took an age to kill. It's far more consistant in it's horror theme than the rest as well and never really gets into silly territory like a lot of the games do, with the exception of zombie elephants but at least that was kind of believable compared to Wesker, Alfred, Salazar, chief psycho irons etc...

I think not having a consistant story did the series a world of good when it was trying to be horror.

Try The Warriors video game. Classic game for a classic movie IMHO.
This game is a really good game, especially if you have someone else playing it with you.

Also, you could try Lost Odyssey. It's a JRPG, and it's really long, but once you get into it, it's great.

Finally! Someone else who liked that game besides me!

OT: Cthulhu Saves the World, on the Xbox Live Indie Games thing. Old style, cheap, funny, enjoyment.

That's the problem with this gen! It takes so much money and skill that there are no hidden gems. The PS2 and 1 has a huge library but sadly it's not so for the PS3 and 360.

Crackdown, one of the first and one of the best, essentially it's GTA gone sci-fi and mad.
This. My only problem with the game being that killing civilians brings your skills down. Don't get me wrong I'm not a psychopath but these people have absolutely no self preservation instinct. Made driving the vehicles and launching rockets a lot less fun. Still just a small blemish on an otherwise awesome game.

Crackdown, I only ever bought it to get access to the Halo 3 beta but ended up spending a lot more time on that

My honest recomendation for a "hidden gem" goes to Burnout Revenge. Old, old racing game but I found it to be wildly entertaining. Any racing game that has a mode where your entire objective is to see how massive and horrific you can make a traffic accident gets a gold star in my book. :p
Very much this. One of my all-time favourites. About the only racing game I've ever wanted to play over and over (besides Total Driving on PS1).

Bayonetta (maybe not so hidden) and Alpha Protocol are also really good picks. I'm betting you could, if you look around, pick up all three for under $25 pre-owned. A very savvy investment.

Yoooooo... so I'm looking for some recommendations for the 360. I'll play pretty much any type of game so fire away. Thanks in advance!
If you have XBLA then look at Orcs Must Die!, From Dust and Limbo. All have trial versions so it won't cost you anything. Oh, talking of trials, look at Trials HD as well. And if you're a fan of puerile humour Deathspank is good for a chuckle. And you're welcome in advance!

Soulcaster and Soulcaster II, I recently saw them on an indy bundly thing, but picked them up on the 360 instead for some reason. They're very short, but very fun and very cheap retro stylie games.

I was all ready to recommend my favorite game of all time, a game that is so unappreciated not many people even know it exists. I had a big argument planned out in between when I clicked on the link and the page loaded. And then I saw you just wanted Xbox360 games.

I guess Powerup Heroes is pretty fun. It's not that well-known. Though I must warn you, it IS for the Kinect...

Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. Despite its criticism for being too different from the original series it's a fun wacky racing game that gives you the chance of being creative for a change.
I agree, that was a good game. My only cripe with that game is that you sometimes spend so long making vehicles that you forget the mission you were building it for
Oh man, that's the story of my life. I am certain I have spent more time building and experimenting with the results of my vehicles than I have spent trying for the missions. In a way the best missions are those that give you a vehicle that you have to use just to eliminate time spent trying to decide which fits best or maybe even make go to the garage and build something brand new.

Condemned 1. Fantastic story, great combat. Scary as hell.

Painkiller. Most fun I have EVER had in a shooter.

Crysis 1 or 2. You know why.

Dungeon Keeper. Plain old fun.

KOTOR 1 or 2. Both great bioware single player RGPs

Jedi outcast or Academy. I feel the best saber combat in any game ever.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom. Now there's a hidden gem if I ever saw one. I can't really describe what genre it belongs in, just look it up; all I can say is it's utterly charming and deserves appreciation.
Also, I second the recommendations for The Darkness.
