I used to 6 box EQ for a few years and really loved it ... been a long while since I boxed .... It really makes for some intersting things one can do ... back when I used it was all separate keyboard and mice with KVM help .. now a days its become very cool the way some of these guys are multiboxing ... heh I saw people boxing well over ten toons in WOW and some of 30 which is just wild ....

its not really dedication though ... its just a completely differant playstyle .. and too much disposable income heh ...

I still run one character a lot with guildies ( my main ) ... its just fun with nothing is going on to take your own group around doing stuff ...

heh as far as dedication goes .. I only really get to play about 5-8 hours a week :(

With WAR, I took the trial and I'm going to be subscribing in a few weeks. It's a good game and you will definately have fun with it. If you want something free, I'd suggest Drift City (a well done racing rpg), Guild Wars, or Rohan: Blood Feud (idk, i had fun with it)

Do you want something like WoW? LotrO.
Do you want something 'harder' than WoW? EvE. (more risk and such)
Do you want something different? City of Heroes.
Do you want fantasy theme? Wait for darkfall.
Do you want sci-fi? Wait for TOR.
Do you want FPS? Wait for Huxley/The Agency/Global Agenda.
Uh. No.

LOTRO is fantasy theme. And it's not quite like WoW. And Eve is completely different from WoW, it shouldn't even be there as something "harder".

Oh, and Darkfall already runs on European servers, it's hard to get a copy, but many people already do have it. A good chunk of a Darkfall clan I'm in is in the game now.
And Eve is completely sci-fi here.

P.S. City of Heroes is all fun for a few days, but then it's grindfest.
I meant 'new' fantasy and 'new' sci-fi.
If you're saying LOTRO isn't like WoW, you have a problem.
EVE isn't completely different than WoW. It rewards players who take risks, unlike WoW, and is for more of a hardcore crowd - that's why I said it's harder. It's easy to suffer large setbacks, which doesn't really happen in WoW.

I also forgot to mention BattleForge if he was looking for MMORTS/RPG.\

Sorry.

Also, city of heroes is about as different as you're going to get in today's scene as far as I know.

Aside from WoW the only mmorpgs ive actively played are Ragnarok Online and LOTRO. I'd recommend LOTRO only if youve read the books. Only then can you really apreciate the effort they put in the games details.

And Ragnarok is your typical korean grindfest.

Guild Wars is good.

No grinding, no subscription fees (just the initial fee to buy the game [even then it's cheap as])

Good class of people in the community.

Excellent graphics.
This. Don't really play it too much anymore but when I did I was thoroughly impressed.

There are some perfectly viable free mmorpg's out there right now.
Perfect world got a massive content update not long ago and is probably among the best of them.
Right now I'm waiting on Aion to hurry up and release it has some very interesting features and graphics on a whole different level from most of the other mmorpg's there are.
it's not an immediate one to switch too, but it's looking like release is finally coming.
