Hi guys. Since its Summer holidays coming up here down under, I've decided to spoil myself with a PS3 game (and also avoid doing some prep work for my final year of school xD). Could you fellow Escapists recommend me some interesting PS3 games. I already have:

FFXIII
SO4
Uncharted 2
inFamous
Prototype
Bayonetta

Hopefully the list will suggest which kind of games I like, but I'm cool with trying out new things. It would be nice to buy a game less that $60, but that isn't particularly feasible considering Australia's insane price on games. Thanks in advance :D

I don't have a PS3, but I hear Little Big Planet and Heavy Rain are pretty cool games. Demon's Souls too.

The Saboteur might be something for you. Sandbox game about a drunk irish man liberating Paris from the nazis. I had a lot of fun with the game, and it brought me a lot of game time.

If the games are so expensive in Australia perhaps you could order from another country? I order my games from www.thehut.com in England(live in Sweden) myself. The games are over half-price there from where I live. Christmas sales now as well!

Little Big Planet (Greatest Hits version) or GTAIV Complete Pack. Do not know the Australian prices, but in the states they run $30 and $40 respectively, new.

Don't have an PS3, but I've played some God of War and that was quite enjoyable. You should also look into Demon's Souls, if you like very difficult games.

Demon's Souls recently got a GOTY edition and it's a steal at $30(unless it's not available in Aus) and it's one of the best Action RPGs of this generation to be honest. It's an experience that really can't be explained through words.

Killzone 2 is also very cheap and the online community is still pretty active. The multiplayer is really great and allows you to mix classes. MAG is another FPS which gets updates fairly often, and it's online only(but has up to 256 multiplayer), but try it out first. It's the vegemite of FPSs, people either hate it or love it.

If you like Zelda-like games you should get 3D Dot Game Heroes, it's made by the same creators of Demon's Souls and has a lot of charm.

LittleBigPlanet is a side scroller and although I haven't played the PS3 version, the PSP version seems slightly unpolished, but still great. It's mainly known for having a really user friendly level creator. ModNationRacers is in the same vein, just replace side scrolling platforming with kart racing.

Personally though, I'd just get PSN points and buy a lot of PS1 classics, but PSN games vary between regions, so I don't know what is available in AU.

MGS4, LBP2 (it comes out in January), Heavy Rain, Heavenly Sword (I thought that game was great), Flower, Noby Noby Boy, Flow, GT5, er.. That's all I can think of at the moment.

I haven't heard of some of these games, so I'll look into them. I'll go through what I think of some of the games mentioned though:

Demon's Souls: It looks like a really interesting game, and I enjoy a challenge once in a while. It's $90 though, so a little out of my price range.

AC2: Can't say I'm a fan of the first game - I didn't even finish it - so I don't know about this one. I've heard 2 is much better than the first game, so I'll consider it.

MGS4: I think my brother is going to buy that at some point in January anyway.

GoW: As much as I love hack and slash games (DMC especially), GoW just didn't appeal to me.

Heavy Rain: Looks okay, a bit lacking on the gameplay, so I've heard. Only $60 though :D

Killzone 2: From what I've heard, its a worse than the first game, which is disappointing because I loved the first game. I suppose I can just borrow it from a friend anyway.

LBP: I finished it at a friend's house last year, so I don't need to buy it again.

So right now, I'm considering Demon's Souls (maybe), Heavy Rain, AC2 and Overlord (which looks like a fun game, and its in my price range :D). I would appreciate some feedback on Overlord.

All the games you listed above are amazing, have played them all and can honestly say you can't go wrong whichever one you choose.

Id recommend renting God Of War 3, if you like hack n slash, you will love this game, is really short though.

Demons Souls is also very good, but can be frustratingly difficult.

Killzone 2 is also really good, single and multiplayer, a very good FPS, miles better than the first game in my opinion, but thats just me.

Assassins creed 2 is very similar to the first gameplay wise, if you didn't like the first you most likely will not enjoy the second.

Metal Gear Solid is without a doubt one of the best games ever made for ps3, awesome gameplay, visuals, story and replayability!

Heavy Rain was a dissapointment to me, the story never really engrossed me, and since it relied on sucking the player in, it meant i didn't enjoy it, but thats just me, most people seemed to like it so also worth a look

God of War is pretty fun. So is inFamous. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time.

Avoid buying heavy rain, as its length does not justify the price.

I actually liked the first one better because it at least tried to have some kind of core gameplay. AC2 is just a bunch of boring (but non-repetitive) missions with even worse assassinations than AC1. The game is supposed to be about assassinating people and it doesn't do it well at all. The AC games should be a cross between Hitman and Batman:AA but they aren't anything like those games.

I found Heavenly Sword to be a really great game, and it's much better than GoW IMO, the gameplay is much much better (GoW is a very simplistic hack and slash from a gameplay standpoint). Heavenly Sword actually has a pretty interesting combat system where you have to switch stances to fight effectively; you block by being in the proper stance and not attacking, you need to perform certain combos against enemies to be effective (you can't button mash and succeed), the counters and super moves are pretty cool, and the aerial combat is pretty unique and interesting. The game is short but if you can get it cheap (on eBay you can find it for $20 or less), definitely give it a shot, the story is good and I really thought the ending was pretty damn good.

Mirror's Edge is another game that should be super cheap and IMO it's the best 3D platformer I've played this gen (I don't have a Wii so I haven't played the Mario Galaxy games). The level design is fantastic and the story is pretty good, it's a good story for say an action movie with some twists and a cool ending. The platforming is really awesome and the combat was actually pretty good, disarming is so fun.

If you enjoyed Bayonetta, you should give Vanquish a shot, it was made by Platinum Games. Vanquish is a shooter but also it's a hardcore action game in the same vein as Bayonetta. To me, Vanquish is the best shooter this gen because 1) it's not a devolved FPS like CoD and 2) it's better than the best cover shooter because it gives you the tools to stay out in the action so you don't have to play a grandiose version of whack-a-mole. It is a short game, it'll probably take you at least 7 hours on the first playthrough. There are challenge rooms also and they are challenging. The game is like Bayonetta where it pushes you to get better; however, Vanquish doesn't quite have the same amount of replayability that Bayonetta has. Shooting is just less complex than a good hack and slash so the gameplay depth is a bit lower. Here in the US, stores have ran Vanquish on sale quite often so you might be able to find it for under full price.

If you haven't played the Sly Cooper series and you are somewhat interested in the series, give it a shot with the Sly Collection. It retails for $40 in the US. Sly 1 was just a fantastic game. I don't know how else to explain Sly 1 but to say it's like taking awesome 2D platforming levels and making them 3D; the level design is Sly 1 was just magical. Sly 2 is an open world game composed of 8 small worlds. I like Sly 1 more but Sly 2 is a damn good open world type game, much better than say GTA or AC because the missions in Sly 2 are so much better than most sandbox/open world games. I haven't played Sly 3 as I just finished Sly 2 last week.

Lastly, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is a damn good racer. It just came out and I'm addicted to it and I haven't loved a racer this much since Midnight Club 2, which came out like 7 years ago. If you like arcade racers, being chased by cops, and chasing down racers as a cop, give this game a shot. The drifting is really awesome and so is the online. The game doesn't have any customization, which I don't care for anyways, it's just about picking one of the world's best cars and racing. You can find this game almost every week for $40 new at one of the stores in the US, so maybe you can as well.

I hear nothing but great things about Nier, it seems like everyone that plays it loves it. I haven't played it myself YET but it's cheap here.

The only one I can think of that hasn?t been recommended already is ?3d dot game heroes?. It?s generally look is what happens when you make pixel art 3d. It plays like an old action adventure game, a bit like Zelda I suppose.

You have uncharted2, but not uncharted1? If you haven't played the first one then definitely check it out, it's just as good as the second.

How about Fallout 3 ? I have Overlord 2 and find it fun...I love controlling mininions to do my bidding... plus seeing them take things from the enviroment or enemy and wear it like their own armor/weapons. Also hearing them shout out as they charge the enemy or bring treasure to you " FOR THE MAAASSTTEERRRR!!!" lol I couldnt find the 1st one...but played a demo of it and liked it as well
