I just finished SC2 HOTS and playing the Hyperion missions reminded me of playing Star Trek Armada. I liked playing a starship fighting game in that style. Anyone have any recommendations for other games similar to those two?

I actually have Sins and the add on's I forgot about listing them. I even end up replaying Star Wars Rebellion just to have the fleet battles. I will check out the mods as I havent looked at those. Thanks for the info!

you could try star sector, it's currently in alpha but you can buy it and get early access for 10 bucks. it's already got some pretty decent mods too.

If you like commanding big ships then you could also look at Starpoint Gemini 2, it's under early access on Steam right now but it's looking pretty good. You also get a free copy of the first game which is also good (kinda) but alot more restrictive.

Well there is Armada 2

and also the Homeworld Series is pretty cool

They are older games though, a few mentioned above I have never played, but look pretty cool.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is a pretty good space battle simulator, though it is just that- RTT, not RTS. You get given a certain number of ships at the start of the mission, some money to buy loadouts for them and get to let loose. It's a pretty fun game too, and the larger battles are really spectacular. It also has a very complex component system where you can target individual parts of an enemy ship, so if you want to catch a fleeing ship you can knock out its jumpdrive before targeting the life support systems and so on.

Well, I'm not sure if it's in that style, but Space Pirates And Zombies (S.P.A.Z) is a bloody good game that I've sunk more than 60 hours into, on normal mode alone.
You can get some absoultely titanic ships by the end of it.

I would say that X3: Albion Prelude is currently one of the best starship games out there right now. It's a verry slow paced game with a learning curve that can put Eve Online to shame however. And it works on a bit of an outdated engine, so AI screwups are pretty common.

Still. It has awesome graphics and a simulated universe that takes trade supply and demand in effect. It allows yout o build your own space factories and run your own massive fleets. You can also pilot pretty much every ship you can see either by buying it or taking it trough piracy. If you can get over the slow pace, I would deffinitly recommend it.

Star Control 2, surely? Its free open source variant is The Ur-Quan Masters.

There's also something on Steam called Starscape which is sort of nifty, if a little bare-bones and rough around the edges.

Strange Adventures in Infinite Space (and its sequel) and Flotilla might be worth a peek as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have ST Armada 2 and I am looking at the mods for Sins of a Solar Empire. I played Star Control 2 in the past so I might reinstall that one. I saw Homeworld before but I never bought it I will have to check it out and Nexus looks really good. All great info thanks everyone!

Oh! And just in case you considered my recommendation, S.P.A.Z is going for under £2 right now, so, go pick it up! It's excellent, just trust me.

Isn't there a custom game in Starcraft 2 that was basically a space DOTA? Can't remember the game (it was something generic like "space battle" or something). But it was pretty fun with nearly limitless RPG leveling and customization.
