PC: (Although some are also on consoles)
Dungeon Defenders (Tower Defence type RPG game)
Saints Row 3 (I had a blast in coop)
Little Big Planet 1+2
Portal 2
Worms (Reloaded is pretty good)
Dead Island
Left 4 Dead 1+2
System Shock 2 (Although its not easy to find and probably need some tuning to get coop working)
League of Legends (A DotA-like game and its free too)
Theres also countless Half-Life 2 mods worth looking at (I'd warmly recommend Zombie Master)

PS3:
Sports Championship (PSMove game)
Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon (Which is also on steam now)
Tumble (PSMove game)

All I got atm, unless i go boot up the PS3.. oh and of course Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite, but that needs 2 PSP's

We play a *ton* of Sacred 2, as well as Dynasty Warriors and the odd bit of Borderlands (If I'm really, really lucky...).

Games where you can slaughter whole hordes as a single character are a great way to get people into it.

Otherwise, we occasionally swap movie night for curing up on the sofa while I play Skyrim/Dragon Age/Mass Effect, but we make gameplay decisions together (especially good for games with a strong story but challenge/depth that's overwhelming to a neophyte).

I'd recommend any over the top or iso view action rpg. They can be kind of deep but are generally easy with two people so there is little room for frustration on her part if she messes up or yours because she messes you up.
That last part is important. Be very wary of games where she can cause you frustration if she messes up. No matter how open, calm or understanding you may be about playing games with her, she will invariably do something, sometime that at the least will make you wince. If she is intuitive she will pick up on any disappointment, even if somewhat slight, and one or both of you will not want to play as often because of it.

Sanctum I think that would be a good start. It has up to 4 player co op. It's a tower defence with a first person aspect.

An RTS game where you're both on the same team. Take your pick from them. Saints Row 3's Co op is fun. Portal 2 if you have the patiences. Left 4 Dead game if you wanna kill zombies. Minecraft for the creative option. Hell start her on the new Mario game (or on an old one).

I strongly agree with any of those. You know her best. Best of luck.

What platform do you use? You could try magicka, which is in a steam sale for next to nothing atm.

Thanks guys (and gals :) ) for all of these suggestions!
Both of us are very open to ideas, we're even thinking of starting up some old Pokemon games.

It has been hard finding good co-op or split screen games as most games are over live now days so this is turning out to be a great list.

Currently I have a SNES, N64, PS2, Wii, and Xbox 360.

-Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken
-Castlecrashers
-Lara Croft and the guardian of light
-Shoot many robots
-Sacred Citadel

Not a coop game but was fun to solve puzzle together
-Machinarium

I'm still looking for more splitscreen pc games but there is so few of them.

I never had a girlfriend, but my sister and I used to play Mario by having one person hold the left half of the controller and move him around, and the other person did jumping. That's some good co-op.

Gonna have to second this. It's an amazing game with extremly fun co-op mechanics despite the fact that it's considered the "budget" game in the series.
