With halloween over I can start thinking/working on my next outfit, and I really fancy doing a cosplay to take to a con or two ( and maybe even be featured here ^.^ ). Yeah I know it's currently con season, but good, cheap or fast(2 out of 3) - I'm going for good&cheap.

I'm kinda struggling for ideas at the moment, so I thought I'd ask you guys for ideas.

a few restrictions:
while I like anime, I'm not a huge fan, I'm not going to choose a character that I don't know or isn't instantly recognisable. I'm more likely to choose an obscure comic book character.
Storm is cool, but I'm white so thats out.
phoenix/dark phoenix/ Ms. Marvel are all classic 'drag superheros' similarly harley, catwoman, supergirl or wonderwoman are all off the cards.

Currently I'm leaning toward She-Ra's cattra, but ... meh.

villains are preferred...

oh yeah, one last caveat: it's part of my performance 'thing' that I always wear a mask so the character has to as well...

Captcha: never quit

What are your skills when it comes to making? this will have a huge impact on what is feasible.
I'm pretty awesome imho! my halloween costume had wings with a 3m wingspan and lights ( http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.860320-halloween-is-coming-cosplay-costume-thread ). I've been building/creating my own outfits for several years now, for performance purposes. I can work with materials including wood, most plastics & metal, I'm pretty good with electrics & programming, ( lights &motors). I can also work with polystyrene. I also have access to a pretty awesome seamstress, for when my own skills aren't up to task.

I'm currently working on a pair of motorised wings ( that fold and unfold automatically ).

How about Hotline Miami? Just get a yellow jacket and a chicken or pig mask and your good to go.

You seem to be more interested in comic characters, but howbout this super awesome Fire Emblem character?

Aside from satisfying your mask criteria, she also has an interesting costume with a good mix of materials, a cute tomboy haircut which would make an awesome wig, and sword props are always fun to make . "Marth" (Lucina) seems like a good character with whom to show off your cosplay skills.

And she's also a new Smash brothers character (although it's her less cool version who is playable) so she's very current and recognizable (not that that matters to you by the sounds of it)

...The mask caveat immediately makes my mind spring to Mask DeMasque of Ace Attorney fame, but I'm not sure how well he fits your criteria[footnote]Sex alone would disqualify him if you're specifically looking for a female character, to say nothing of my uncertainty regarding your familiarity with the character or how recognizable he is[/footnote]. All the same, I can't resist suggesting a character whose name literally means "mask of the mask" to someone who notes that masks are part of their shtick.

Of course, a similar meta joke can also be made with Madame Masque and she perhaps better fits the listed criteria.

How about incorporating themes? Like Day of the dead/cyberpunk/Catwoman

Day of the dead face paint-simple Catwoman suit with LED accents.

EDIT: Actually a Cyberpunk/Day of the Dead-Wonderwoman would be awesome.

I like both of those options, particularly Mask DeMasque, thats the kind of thinking that I really like when putting things together, and it's an awesome outfit...

Yeah I'm almost sold on this too... again an awesome outfit, with such good detail, and the mask itself! (inlove)

Steampunking/cyberpunking someone is a cool idea, I wouldn't go with day of the dead myself, and Catwoman/Wonderwoman are out of bounds....

----- EDIT -----

Sexy steampunk Galactus ??? maybe? perhaps?
